  • In this paper, we suggest and analyze some three step iterative scheme for finding the common elements of the set of the solutions of the extended general variational inequalities involving three operators and the set of the fixed points of nonexpansive mappings. We also consider the convergence analysis of suggested iterative schemes under some mild conditions. Since the extended general variational inequalities include general variational inequalities and several other classes of variational inequalities as special cases, results obtained in this paper continue to hold for these problems. Results obtained in this paper may be viewed as a refinement and improvement of the previously known results.

  • All models of dynamical systems invariably have some measure of uncertainties associated with some of their dynamics. The recent approaches to establish robustness of stabilizing feedback control against the possible uncertainties have a serious limitation, that is their applicability only to the systems that satisfy the matching conditions. Such conditions are rarely met in general applications. If a particular system satisfies the matching conditions, the addition of an actuator will destroy the satisfaction of such conditions. In this paper, we develop robust control algorithm for uncertain multivariable systems in which the matching conditions are not necessarily met. We empoly Lyapunov's second method to derive robust stabilizing controllers which guarantee asymptotic stability against prescribed uncertainties. The derivation consists of transforming the original uncertain system to controllable canonical form and constructing a constant switching surface by designing the closed-loop characteristics as a function of the uncertainties. Numerical examples are discussed as illustrations.

  • The purposes of this article were three folds; to find general trends of the conception of love, sexual attitudes and mate conditions of unmarried men and women, to investigate relationships among them and to analyze the effect of significant variables influencing mate conditions. The samples were the 164 unmarried men and 235 unmarried women living in Kwang-ju. Major findings were as follows; 1) Unmarried men revealed higher concern in commitment of love and they were more liberal in sexual attitudes than women. Women desired higher level of mate conditions than men compared with themselves. 2) Women's conception of love was more related to their sexual attitudes and homogeneous mate conditions than men. Men's sexual attitudes were related to their homogeneous mate conditions, while those of women were related to interactional mate conditions. 3) Men's external mate conditions were affected by job, and internal mate conditions were affected by passion of love and sex role attitude. Men's homogeneous mate conditions were affected by attitude of premarital sexual experience, intimacy of love and conception of sexuality, and those of women's were affected by passion of love and age. Men's interactional mate conditions were affected by sex role attitude, job and education. Therefore unmarried men and women's conception of love and sexual attitudes were associated with homogeneous and interactional mate conditions.

  • This paper deals with general equations of motion for free vibration analysis response of thick three-layer doubly curved sandwich panels (DCSP) under simply supported boundary conditions (BCs) using higher order shear deformation theory. In this model, the face sheets are orthotropic laminated composite that follow the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) based on Rissners-Mindlin (RM) kinematics field. The core is made of orthotropic material and its in-plane transverse displacements are modeled using the third order of the Taylor's series extension. It provides the potentiality for considering both compressible and incompressible cores. To find these equations and boundary conditions, Hamilton's principle is used. Also, the effect of trapezoidal shape factor for cross-section of curved panel element ($1{\pm}z/R$) is considered. The natural frequency parameters of DCSP are obtained using Galerkin Method. Convergence studies are performed with the appropriate formulas in general form for three-layer sandwich plate, cylindrical and spherical shells (both deep and shallow). The influences of core stiffness, ratio of core to face sheets thickness and radii of curvatures are investigated. Finally, for the first time, an optimum range for the core to face sheet stiffness ratio by considering the existence of in-plane stress which significantly affects the natural frequencies of DCSP are presented.

  • Concerns over reliability assessments of the main components in nuclear power plants (NPPs) related to aging and continuous operation have increased. The conventional reliability assessment for main components uses experimental correlations under general conditions. Most NPPs have been operating in Korea for a long time, and it is predictable that NPPs operating for the same number of years would show varying extent of aging and degradation. The conventional reliability assessment does not adequately reflect the characteristics of an individual plant. Therefore, the reliability of individual components and an individual plant was estimated according to operating data and conditions. It is essential to reflect aging as a characteristic of individual NPPs, and this is performed through prognostics. To handle this difficulty, in this paper, the general path model/Bayes, a data-based prognostic method, was used to update the reliability estimated from the generic database. As a case study, the authors consider the aging for steam generator tubes in NPPs and demonstrate the suggested methodology with data obtained from the probabilistic algorithm for the steam generator tube assessment program.

  • This study focused on the sediment reduction effects of VFS (vegetative filter strip) systems for the general characteristics of uplands in Korea. General conditions of upland fields were investigated through national scales of annual agricultural statistics. 7-15 % of slope with loam soil was the dominant types of uplands, and the hydrologic soil group feature usually belong to Type B. The common sizes of uplands were bigger than 0.1 ha and less than 0.2 ha, and 86.2 % of them account for less than 1.0 ha. With this information, 0.1 ha, 0.5 ha, and 1.0 ha of uplands with various shapes and 7-15 % of slopes were considered for the VFS system simulations. 20 mm, 40 mm, and 100 mm of daily precipitation were applied. As a result, the trapping efficiencies of VFS systems were obtained 37.4~100 % for 7 % slope and 18.1~98.0 % for 15 % slope of the less than 1.0ha of uplands. As rainfall increased, sediment loads also increased with slope and slope length increase. Also as size and slope of uplands and slope length increased with VFS length decrease, the trapping efficiency decreased for the same amount of rainfall. The optimum lengths of VFS systems for the givien upland conditions were suggested based on the modelling results with condition of VFS length less than 20 % of upland areas.

  • To improve audit quality, certain Chinese auditing firms have added a third-level review by an additional signing auditor to the general evaluation by a signing auditor team consisting of an engagement auditor and a partner. Nonetheless, our research-based on 36,033 firm-year observations from 2004 to 2019 reveals that compared to the general review system, auditor teams under the three-level review system are less likely to issue modified audit opinions when abnormal financial conditions arise. This finding suggests that, while larger auditor teams' knowledge, experience, and information advantages can theoretically sharpen their judgment, their performance is more susceptible to interference from divergent opinions, the diffusion of responsibility, and lower energy invested by individual auditors, ultimately impairing their judgment regarding the audited enterprises' abnormal financial conditions. That is, the three-level review system, which aims to improve audit quality, actually worsens audit quality. This conclusion remains valid after the problems of heteroscedasticity and endogeneity are addressed by using firm-level cluster robust standard errors and two-stage regression. We hope that our research will draw the attention of auditing firms, prompting them to reconsider the rationality of the three-level review system.

  • This work presents a comprehensive investigation of buckling behavior of bidirectional functionally graded imperfect beams exposed to several thermal loading with general boundary conditions. The nonlinear governing equations are derived based on 2D shear deformation theory together with Von Karman strain-displacement relation. The beams are composed of two different materials. Its properties are porosity-dependent and are continuously distributed over the length and thickness of the beams following a defined law. The resulting equations are solved analytically in order to determine the thermal buckling characteristics of BDFG porous beams. The precision of the current solution and its accuracy have been proven by comparison with works previously published. Numerical examples are presented to explore the effects of the thermal loading, the elastic foundation parameters, the porosity distribution, the grading indexes and others factors on the nonlinear thermal buckling of bidirectional FG beam rested on elastic foundation.
