  • Extreme temperatures and precipitations are expected to be more frequently occurring due to the ongoing global warming over the Korean Peninsula. However, few studies have analyzed the synoptic weather patterns associated with extreme events in a warming world. Here, the atmospheric patterns related to future extreme events are first analyzed using the HadGEM3-RA regional climate model. Simulations showed that the variability of temperature and precipitation will increase in the future (2051-2100) compared to the present (1981-2005), accompanying the more frequent occurrence of extreme events. Warm advection from East China and lower latitudes, a stagnant anticyclone, and local foehn wind are responsible for the extreme temperature (daily T>$38^{\circ}C$) episodes in Korea. The extreme precipitation cases (>$500mm\;day^{-1}$) were mainly caused by mid-latitude cyclones approaching the Korean Peninsula, along with the enhanced Changma front by supplying water vapor into the East China Sea. These future synoptic-scale features are similar to those of present extreme events. Therefore, our results suggest that, in order to accurately understand future extreme events, we should consider not only the effects of anthropogenic greenhouse gases or aerosol increases, but also small-scale topographic conditions and the internal variations of climate systems.

  • The in vitro propagation of the commercially important Phalaeonopsis hybrid 'Little gem' was achieved by culturing the apical part and axillary buds excised from flower stalks. The explants were cultured on 5 different basal media: $3.0{\cdot}L^{-1}$ Hyponex and $4.0{\cdot}L^{-1}$ peptone ($H_3P_4$) and Murashige & Skoog (MS) media were shown to be suitable for shoot regeneration. The MS medium supplemented with $5.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) was found to be more efficient for shoot regeneration. However, the number of shoots induced by axillary buds was higher than that induced by the apical part. Incubation of the apical part under darkness for one week, as well as of the explants in the same medium with activated charcoal (AC) $0.5g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ promoted shoot regeneration and shoot growth; similar growth was not observed with axillary buds.

  • With rapid growth of the world plant market, an increasing attention is paid on the plant engineering. Up to present time, Korean plant engineering technology has been concerned with the down stream part of the plant engineering, so called EPC, considered as a lower value chain compared with the up stream, composed of FEED(Front End Engineering Design) and PMC(Project Management Consultancy). In other words, a key issue for Korean plant industry is how to catch up the FEED technology, currently occupied by the advanced countries. In this paper, we propose an SE(Systems Engineering) approach, conventionally applied for aerospace and defense industry, to the FEED for plant engineering. Specifically, we proposed a new SE process composed of: 1) SPA matrix for reverse systems engineering, and 2) PPA matrix for forward systems engineering. To illustrate the proposed method, a case study for an environmental plant is performed.

  • Recently, various efforts have been made to develop oil and gas in the Arctic Ocean. It is very important to consider the load caused by ice in designing floating structures in the area. The magnitude of the ice load and its impact on a structure should be considered. In this paper, we analyze ice parameters affecting the DP performance of FPSO with a DP-assisted mooring system. Several ice characteristics are selected, and the resulting ice load is calculated using GEM software. Numerous simulations are conducted while changing the values of the parameters, and DP capability plots are generated to visualize the effects of changing these parameters. It is shown that the ice drift speed and thickness are the major properties to be considered in DP system design. The limitations of the analysis and future work are discussed in the conclusion.

  • This study is thed Embroidery, Cross-stitchery, Weaving, Wax-Printing of technique and design appeared in textile of Miaos dwells in south-west among the minority people of china. The study is as follows. First, the technique of textile1) satin stitch, couching stitch, french-knot stitch, etc. using anther silk thread or cotton thread color 2) cross-stitchery 3) hand-weaving technique which is shaped other warp or weft using simple loom 4) the technique of dyeing of pattern using effect with wax. These methods are singly used mixing together, therefore doubled beauty. Second, these technuque of ornament have other independence, specially ornament apron, sling, sleeve borders, slack borderss, edge of upper garment, take off and put on easily, heighten effect of various ornament, can preserve many years. Third, Maker, female born in this country fashion by need of herself, used liberal method shown in unique creativity of life. This texture make standards capable female proud of intelligent and skill of herself. Fourth, Design appeared in textile like as pattern flying bird in the sky, strolling beast in the field, lion rolling gem, laughing dragon winding snake at gem, birks, flowers, fish, butterfly is used as the wish of long life, a lucky sign. They expressed creativity and unique conception using formation : the technique transform other shape using by omitting or adding or overestimating. Geometric pattern of tartan, revealing, Fifth, composition structure having balance and symmetry or contradiction towards center and circumstance of the center harmonized repeatedly method, expressed unique artful attraction by full composition.

  • This study was carried out to screen the fruiting body formation-specific genes from the medicinal mushroom Cordyceps militaris. A cDNA synthesized using total RNA from 4 stages of mushroom development, mycelium, primordium, immature fruiting body and mature fruiting body. Differential expression gene screening was performed by DD-PCR(Differential Display Arbitrary Primer PCR) with cDNA, we sequenced partial 6 genes using pGEM cloning vector. The DNA Sequence of the six DD-PCR products derived from differentially expressed genes was compared to that in the GenBank database by using the NCBI BLAST search to identify similarities to known sequences. Sequence analysis showed that six of DD-PCR products have unknown sequence.

  • Laccase, lignin- and manganese peroxidase are implicated in the lignin degradation. The nucleotide sequences of four copper-binding domains in fungal laccases, and heme-binding domains of lignin- and manganese peroxidases are well conserved, and therefore these short fragments can be used for the PCR for the gene amplification. We synthesized several PCR primers according to their sequences, and run PCR to amplifiy the lignin degrading genes of Trametes versicolor isolated in Korea. PCR products were cloned with pGEM-T vector in order to determine their nucleotide sequences. A laccase fragment (1.3 kb) showed 65-97% homologies, lignin peroxidase fragment (185 bp) showed 80-95% homologies, and manganese peroxidase fragment (443 bp) showed 61-83% homologies when compared with other white-rot fungal enzymes.

  • Based on the natural colors and techniques of Korean traditional Dancheong, the image from splendor and magnificence is used as a jewel in making ornaments by subjective interpretation of the researcher. The purpose of this paper is to propose the possibility of using as a jewelry design by combining the possibilities of various color expressions, the combination of solidity and luster synthetic resin by utilizing natural pigments and mono images used in Korean traditional monophonic. In this study, this study presented the possibility of accessing in the life of a modern person pursuing a lifestyle by introducing a mono image into jewelry design, and at the same time, approaching ornaments by using traditional materials of the past, modern materials, and digital production methods. We are looking for a wide variety of jewelry designs to be utilized.
