The purpose of this study is to characterize the hydrogeochemical characteristics of hot spring waters and to interpret the source of noble gases and the geochemical environment of the hot spring waters distributed along the eastern area of the Korean peninsula. For this purpose, We carried out the chemical, stable isotopic and noble gas isotopic analyses for eleven hot spring water and fourteen hot spring gas samples collected from six hot spring sites. The hot spring waters except the Osaek hot spring water show the pH range of 7.0 to 9.1. However, the Osaek $CO_2$-rich hot spring water shows a weak acid of pH 5.7. The temperature of hot spring waters in the study area ranges from $25.7^{\circ}C$ to $68.3^{\circ}C$. Electrical conductivity of hot spring waters varies widely from 202 to $7,130{\mu}S/cm$. High electrical conductivity (av., $3,890{\mu}S/sm$) by high Na and Cl contents of the Haeundae and the Dongrae hot spring waters indicates that the hot spring waters were mixed with seawater in the subsurface thermal system. The type of hot springs in the viewpoint of dissolved components can be grouped into three types: (1) alkaline Na-$HCO_3$ type including sulfur gas of the Osaek, Baekam, Dukgu and Chuksan hot springs, and (2) saline Na-Cl type of the Haeundae and Dongrae hot springs, and (3) weak acid $CO_2$-rich Na-$HCO_3$ type of Osaek hot spring. Tritium ratios of the Haeundae and the Dongrae hot springs indicate different residence time in their aquifers of older water of $0.0{\sim}0.3$ TU and younger water of $5.9{\sim}8.8$ TU. The ${\delta}^{18}O$ and ${\delta}D$ values of hot spring waters indicate that they originate from the meteoric water, and that the values also reflect a latitude effect according to their locations. $^3He/^4He$ ratios of the hot spring waters except Osaek $CO_2$-rich hot spring water range from $0.1{\times}10^{-6}$ to $1.1{\times}10^{-6}$ which are plotted above the mixing line between air and crustal components. It means that the He gas in hot spring waters was originated mainly from atmosphere and crust sources, and partly from mantle sources. The Osaek $CO_2$-rich hot spring water shows $3.3{\times}10^{-6}$ in $^3He/^4He$ ratio that is 2.4 times higher than those of atmosphere. It provides clearly a helium source from the deep mantle. $^{40}Ar/^{36}Ar$ ratios of hot spring water are in the range of an atmosphere source.

Global concern over climate change, driven by greenhouse gas emissions, has prompted widespread interest in sustainable solutions. In the agricultural sector, biochar has emerged as a focal point for mitigating these emissions. This study investigated the impact of continuous biochar application on CO2 and N2O emissions during the spring cabbage cultivation period. Greenhouse gas emissions in the biochar treatment groups (soils treated with 1, 3, and 5 tons/ha of rice husk biochar) were compared to those in the control group without biochar. During the spring cabbage cultivation period in 2022, the total CO2 emissions were in the range of 71.6-119.0 g/m2 day, and in 2023, with continuous biochar application, they were in the range of 71.6-102.1 g/m2 day. The total emissions of N2O in 2022 and 2023 were in the range of 11.7-23.7 and 7.8-19.9 g/m2 day, respectively. Overall, greenhouse gas emissions decreased after biochar treatment, confirming the positive influence of biochar on mitigating greenhouse gas release from the soil. Nevertheless, further research over an extended period exceeding five years is deemed essential to delve into the specific mechanisms behind these observed changes and to assess the long-term sustainability of biochar's impact on greenhouse gas dynamics in agricultural settings.
Present study was undertaken to investigate the leakage and friction of self-lubricating piston seal rings. A crank-piston type gas leakage test set-up was constructed. The piston rings were made of PTFE-polyimide composite. The free gap configurations of the seal rings were butt and step types. Eccentric tension rings were used to give the seal rings prepressure between the seal rings and cylinder wall. Two sizes of the tension rings were installed to investigate their effect on the gas leakage and friction of the seal rings. The results showed that step type seal rings are superior than the butt types. High tension spring rings resulted in low leakage and high friction loss. In order to reduce the gas leakage and friction loss of the piston seal rings, there should be compromise between the number of ring stages and prepressure of the tension rings.

The purpose of this study is to analysis the charging gas effect on the resonance and performance characteristics of the linear compressor for small scale FPFD Stirling refrigerator. To ensure high performance of FPFD type Stirling refrigerator, the operating frequency of the refrigerator should be around the natural frequency of compressor. The gas spring effect which is induced from pressure change in cylinder due to motion of pistons has significant effect on the natural frequency of the compressor. The numerical results show the linear compressor has high natural frequency when the charging pressure of working fluid is high.

A PCV valve is a part to control the flow rate of Blowby gas in a PCV system. A PCV system re-burns Blowby gas with fuel in a combustion chamber. Some gas enters to a crankcase room through the gap between piston ring and engine cylinder wall. This gas si called 'Blowby gas'. This gas causes many problems. In environmental view, Blowby gas includes about $25\~35\%$ hydrocarbon{HC) of total generated HC in an automobile. Hydrocarbon is a very harmful pollutant element in our life. In mechanical view, Blowby gas has some reaction with lubricant oil of crankcase room. Then, this causes lubricant oil contamination, crankcase corrosion and a decrease fo engine efficiency. Consequently, Blowby gas must be eliminated from a crankcase room. In this study, we simulated internal flow characteristics in a PCV valve according to spool dynamic behavior using local remeshing method And, we programmed our sub routine to simulate a spool dynamic motion. As results, spool dynamic behavior is periodically oscillated by the relationship between fluid force and elastic force of spring. And its magnitude is linearly increased by the differential pressure between inlet and outlet. Also, as spool is largely moved, flow area is suddenly decreased at orifice. For this reason, flow velocity is rapidly decreased by viscous effect.

Effects of crustal species on the characteristics of ambient particles were studied by applying a gas-particle equilibrium model, SCAPE, to the measurements at Kosan, Cheju Island during the spring and summer, 1994. Two cases were simulated; the measured composition was used without any modification (case 1), and the metal ion concentrations originated from crust were subtracted from the measured particle composition (case 2). Total suspended particles (TSPs) were collected by an automatic high volume tape sampler during spring period and by high volume samplers during summer period. The fine particles, PM 2.5, and gaseous volatile species were collected using a filter pack smapler during summer period. The water soluble ion concentrations were analyzed from all the particle samples. According to the simulation results, the effect of crustal elements on the chemical composition of particles is negligible for both TSP particles and PM 2.5 particles. Acidity of particles measured at Kosan, however, is affected by the change of the concentrations of crustal species, stronger effects for TSP particles than for PM 2.5 particles during summer, and stronger effects during summer than spring for TSP particle. The average pH decrease due to the absence of crustal species was about 0.10 for PM 2.5 particle during summer and 1.51 and 0.85 for TSP particles during summer spring, respectively. Water contents of PM 2.5 particles for both cases are comparable to each other. Estimated water content of TSP particles for case 2 is higher than that for case 1 by about 4 $\sim 6 \mum/m^3$ because salts of metal ions are not hygroscopic.
Reinforced polyurethane foam (RPUF) is one of the important materials of Mark III type insulation systems used in liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo containment systems. However, RPUF is the most difficult material to use with regard to its safety assessment, because there is little public and reliable data on its mechanical properties, and even some public data show relatively large differences. In this study, to investigate the structural response of the system under compressive loads such as sloshing action, time-dependent characteristics of RPUF were examined. A series of compressive load tests of the insulation system including RPUF under various temperature conditions was carried out using specimens with rectangular section. As a result, the relationship between deformation of RPUF and time is linear and dependent on the loading rate, so the concept of strain rate could be applied to the analysis of the insulation system. Also, we found that the spring constant tends to converge to a value as the loading rate increases and that the convergence level is dependent on temperature.

The shock absorber with magnetic effect is suggested for a lunar lander. The shock absorber consists of a metal tube, a piston rod, and several permanent magnets moved by a piston rod in the tube, and the shock energy can be dispersed and dissipated by magnetic effects such as the magnetic force existed between a metal and magnets and the eddy current effect generated by a relative motion with a conductor and magnets. Besides, the shock-absorbing effect similar to that of a coil spring can be obtained by arranging the magnets in line, which are facing the same polar each other. The device has a very simple structure and is usable in space due to the unnecessariness of any oil or gas. The shock absorber was designed and manufactured for experiments and its spring and damping characteristics were studied by the theoretical, analytical and experimental methods.
