  • This paper describes a weld pool monitoring technique, which is based on the weld pool image analysis. The proposed image analysis algorithm uses machine vision techniques to extract geometrical information from the weld pool image such as maximum weld pool width, gap width and misalignment between the joint longitudinal axis and the welding wire. These can be related to the welding parameters (welding voltage and current, wire feed speed and standoff) to produce control actions necessary to ensure that the required weld quality will be achieved. The experiments have shown that the algorithm is able to produce good estimates of the weld pool geometry; however, the adjustment of the camera parameters affects the image quality and, consequently, has a great influence over the estimation.

단락 요철이 설치된 내부 냉각유로에서 회전에 따른 열/물질전달 특성 연구 (Experimental Study of Heat/Mass Transfer in Rotating Cooling Passages with Discrete Ribs)

  • The present study has been conducted to investigate the effect of discrete ribs and rotation on heat/mass transfer characteristics in a two-pass square duct with $90^{\circ}-rib$ turbulators. The rib turbulator has a square cross section of 1.5 mm. The rib height-to-hydraulic diameter ratio $({e/D_{h})$ is 0.056, and the rib pitch-to-rib height ratio (p/e) is 10. The gap width is the same as the rib height. The rotation number ranges from 0.0 to 0.2 while Reynolds number is fixed to 10,000. In a stationary duct, the heat/mass transfer on the surfaces with discrete ribs is enhanced because the gap flow promotes local turbulence and flow mixing near the ribbed surface. In a rotating duct, the gap flow affects differently the heat/mass transfer on leading and trailing surfaces with discrete ribs. On the leading surface of the first pass, heat/mass transfer is increased due to the gap flow. On the trailing surface of the first pass, however, heat/mass transfer is decreased because the gap flow disturbs reattachment of main flow. The phenomenon, that is, the difference of heat transfer between the leading and the trailing surfaces is distinctly presented by rotation.

Superconformal gap-filling of nano trenches by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) with hydrogen plasma treatment

  • As the trench width in the interconnect technology decreases down to nano-scale below 50 nm, superconformal gap-filling process of Cu becomes very critical for Cu interconnect. Obtaining superconfomral gap-filling of Cu in the nano-scale trench or via hole using MOCVD is essential to control nucleation and growth of Cu. Therefore, nucleation of Cu must be suppressed near the entrance surface of the trench while Cu layer nucleates and grows at the bottom of the trench. In this study, suppression of Cu nucleation was achieved by treating the Ru barrier metal surface with capacitively coupled hydrogen plasma. Effect of hydrogen plasma pretreatment on Cu nucleation was investigated during MOCVD on atomic-layer deposited (ALD)-Ru barrier surface. It was found that the nucleation and growth of Cu was affected by hydrogen plasma treatment condition. In particular, as the plasma pretreatment time and electrode power increased, Cu nucleation was inhibited. Experimental data suggests that hydrogen atoms from the plasma was implanted onto the Ru surface, which resulted in suppression of Cu nucleation owing to prevention of adsorption of Cu precursor molecules. Due to the hydrogen plasma treatment of the trench on Ru barrier surface, the suppression of Cu nucleation near the entrance of the trenches was achieved and then led to the superconformal gap filling of the nano-scale trenches. In the case for without hydrogen plasma treatments, however, over-grown Cu covered the whole entrance of nano-scale trenches. Detailed mechanism of nucleation suppression and resulting in nano-scale superconformal gap-filling of Cu will be discussed in detail.

접촉한 두 평면과 균열한 틈새에서의 유동마찰계수 비교 (Comparison of the Friction-Loss Coefficient for the Gap of Two Contact Surfaces and a Crack)

  • 이중벽관 증기발생기에서 전열관의 내관과 외관 사이의 틈새에 채워진 헬륨가스의 압력변동으로 전열관의 파손을 감지하는 방법이 개발되고 있다. 이 현상을 모사하기 위해 압력으로 밀착된 두 평판사이의 미세한 틈새에서의 누설률을 측정하여 실험식을 개발하였다. 이 실험식에서는 틈새의 간격과 유동마찰계수가 표면조도에 의해 상호 결합된 형태로 기술되는데, 간단한 평판접촉 모델을 사용하여 유동마찰계수 식을 분리하였다. 이 실험식과 균열에서의 누설률 예측에 사용되고 있는 기존의 유동마찰계수 관련 실험식들을 상호 비교하였다. 레이놀즈 수의 적용범위가 상이함에도 불구하고 개발한 실험식이 0.1~0.35 에서는 레이놀즈 수가 높은 경우에 적용되는 실험식들과 유사한 값을 보였다.

열간 조압연공정에서 판 캠버 저감을 위한 사이드 가이드 동적설정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Dynamic Setup of a Side Guide to Reduce Bar Camber at the Roughing Train in a Hot Strip Rolling Mill)

  • Bar camber is a phenomenon in which a material with a deformation gradient across its width is bent in the right or left direction in the roll gap. This paper proposes a dynamic setup approach for a side guide for reducing bar camber. A bar tracking scheme using a rotary encoder was adopted to fix an operation point for the side guide. The guiding pressure was utilized for measuring the actual width of the bar with camber. Based on the accurate position and width of the bar, the side guide was dynamically set and operated at the actual roughing train in a hot strip rolling mill. The amount of camber was reduced notably when the dynamic setup scheme was installed in the side guide. 78% of the bars tested had a camber in the range of ${\pm}20mm$, which was an improvement of 27% in terms of production yield.

후판의 자동 다층용접을 위한 아크센서 시스템 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of Arc Sensor System for Automatic Multi-pass Welding of Thick Plate)

  • An automatic welding equipment for thick plates requires the capability of the seam tracking of the weld line which often includes misalignment of the workpiece and variation of groove width. In this study, an automatic welding equipment and control algorithms based on the arc sensor were proposed for the GMA welding of thick plates which had misalignment and gap variation. The developed system being constituted with 5 axis can be automatically controlled by computer and also automnatically set the welding conditions such as welding current, and voltage. The proposed algorithms for the seam tracking in multi-pass welding of the thick plates were constituted as follows : the detection of weaving-end point for findng the variation of groove width, the control of welding velocity for acquiring a constant thickness deposition of weld metal, and the calculation of groove width and height of an arbitrary pass in the multi-pass weld. As results of the application of the system, it was revealed that the system had a good capability in seam tracking and made an excellent weld quality in V groove butt joint.

LiNbO$_3$ 광 도파로의 전계분포 및 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the electric field distribution of design of LiNbO$_3$ optical waveguide)

  • BPM simulation was used in order to fabricate the LiNbO$_3$optical waveguide with optical source of He-Ne laser(λ=0.6328[$\mu$m]). we observed electric field E$_{x}$, E$_{y}$ in the x,y-direction are simulated at the LiNbO$_3$substrate (X1 55[$\mu$m]$\times$Z1 5000[$\mu$m]), where the depth, width and buffer layer of waveguide are 0.2[$\mu$m],4[$\mu$m] and 0.02[$\mu$m] respectively. By applying these parameters of single waveguide to simulate a X-switch, we have chosen index change of 0.002, width of 3[$\mu$m] and angle of 0.4$^{\circ}$~0.6$^{\circ}$of optical waveguide and under these conditions, optical beam propagates cross-side at 0.4$^{\circ}$. When applied switching voltage of 25[V], optical beam of X-switch turns cross-side to bar-side at intersection angle 0.4$^{\circ}$, index change of 0.002, waveguide width of 3[$\mu$m], electrode gap 2[$\mu$m]. By the above results, we can obtain design conditions of theoretical analysis of an X-switch optical waveguide.e.e.

비정질 와이어를 센서헤드로 이용한 금속의 미세결함 검출 (Flaw Detection in a Conductor Using Sensor Head of Amorphous Wire)

  • 미소결함을 가진 금속체에 교류자기장을 인가하면 결함부근에는 와전류의 분포가 달라져 이에 의해 금속체를 관통하는 교류자기장은 결함부근에서 차이를 가진다. 이 교류자기장을 비정질 와이어로 된 센서헤드로 측정하여 센서헤드의 유기전압 크기로부터 결함 유무를 검출하는 방법에 대해 검토하였다. 비정질 와이어는 Co-based재료로 자왜가 거의 0이며 고투자율 자성체이고 비정질 와이어는 길이가 15mm, 직경이 100$\mu\textrm{m}$인 원주형 자성체이다. 실험대상 금속체로 0.5mm의 단일 직선 갭을 가진 두께 1mm의 동판과 0.1mm의 갭이 규칙적으로 배열된 두께 25$\mu\textrm{m}$의 Al 판를 이용하였다. 스파이럴 코일에 인가하는 교류자기장의 주파수는 100KHz~600KHz였다. 본 실험의 결과에서 동판에서는 유기전압의 최대치와 최소치의 차가 약 2.5㎷ 얻어졌고, Al판에서는 500KHz에서 0.4㎷가 얻어져 직선 갭의 유무를 유기전압의 크기만으로 확인할 수 있었다.
