  • The paper describes the electrical and optical properties of underwater discharges in highly inhomogeneous electric fields caused by 1.2/50 ${\mu}s$ impulse voltages as functions of the polarity and amplitude of the applied voltage, and various water conductivities. The electric fields are formed by a point-to-plane electrode system. The formation of air bubbles is associated with a thermal process of the water located at the tip of the needle electrode, and streamer coronas can be initiated in the air bubbles and propagated through the test gap with stepped leaders. The fastest streamer channel experiences the final jump across the test gap. The negative streamer channels not only have more branches but are also more widely spread out than the positive streamer channels. The propagation velocity of the positive streamer is much faster than that of the negative one and, in fact, both these velocities are independent of the water conductivity; in addition the time-lag to breakdown is insensitive to water conductivity. The higher the water conductivity the larger the pre-breakdown energy, therefore, the ionic currents do not contribute to the initiation and propagation of the underwater discharges in the test conditions considered.

  • Expander graphs are useful in the design and analysis of communication networks. Mukhopadhyay et. al introduced a method to generate a family of expander graphs based on nongroup two predecessor single attractor CA(Cellular Automata). In this paper we propose a method to generate a family of expander graphs based on 60/102 Null boundary CA(NBCA) which is a group CA. The spectral gap generated by our method is larger than that of Mukhopadhyay et. al [12]. As an application we give an algorithm which generate one-way functions whose security lies on the combinatorial properties of our expander graphs. the one-way function using d-regular graph generated by the 60/102 NBCA is based on the Goldreich's construction [5].

  • The main functions of containment boom for marine floating debris are to prevent spreading of the marine floating debris and to effectively collect the trash skimmer. The design characteristics of containment boom for marine floating debris in wave, current and wind are investigated. The response of a containment boom on the current is a function of a number of parameters, such as geometric characteristics, buoyance/weight ratio and towing velocity. To understand the relationship between these design parameters more clearly, a series of tests with three models with the variation of current speed and gap ratio was conducted. The model tests results are developed to new numerical equation that is tension prediction method of containment boom for marine floating debris. Also its is compared with open sea experimental results.

  • We report spectroscopic ellipsometric (SE) measurements on $Cd_{1-x}Mg_x/Te$ (0$\leq$x$\leq$0.43) films grown on GaAs substrate. When compared with previous bulk data, at first, current spectrum shows clear interference oscillations below $E_0$ band gap energy, which means the transparent characteristic of direct transition material below $E_0$ edge. It proves that the film samples used for this work have the most interrupted surface of high quality reported so far by SE. Secondly the best resolution of $E_2$-peak is observed, so we can report clear splitting of E$_2$and $E_0'$ band gap energies. We also performed the multilayer calculation necessary to remove this interference oscillations to observe $E_0'$ band gap energy of $Cd_{1-x}Mg_x/Te$ (x=0.23) film.

  • The head gap gene buttonhead (btd) is required for the patterning of head segments in the early Drosophila embryo. Mutant phenotypes of btd display a gap-like phenotype in which antennal, intercalary, mandibular and the anterior portion of the maxillary segments are eliminated. In agreement with the phenotypes, btd is expressed in a stripe covering the head segments at the blastoderm stage. During the early phase of the germband extension, btd is expressed in stripes with single segmental periodicity, which is required for the formation of the peripheral nervous system. In contrast to the key role of btd in Drosophila embryonic development, it has been suggested that Tribolium ortholog of btd (Tc-btd) is dispensable for embryonic head development. In order for better understanding of the requirement of Tc-btd in the early Tribolium embryo, we re-analyzed the expression patterns and functions of Tc-btd during embryonic segmentation. Tc-btd is expressed in segmental stripes at the stages of blastoderm and germband elongation. Up to 28.3% of embryos in which Tc-btd is knocked down displays the loss of antennal, mandibular and the pregnathal regions in the head, with abdominal segments being disrupted in the trunk. Our findings suggest that Tc-btd is required for the head and trunk development in the early Tribolium embryo.

  • A band gap refers to a certain frequency range where the propagation of mechanical waves is prohibited. This work focuses on engineering three-dimensional Kelvin lattices having external band gaps at low audible frequency ranges using a gradient-based design optimization method. Elastic wave propagation in an infinite periodic lattice is investigated by employing the Bloch theorem. We model the ligaments using a shear-deformable beam model obtained by consistent linearization in a geometrically exact beam theory. For a given lattice topology, we enlarge band gap sizes by controlling the configuration of the beam neutral axis and cross-section thickness that are smoothly parameterized by B-spline basis functions within the isogeometric analysis framework.

  • In this paper, we suggest the Deep Neural Network Model System for predicting results of the match of 'League of Legends (LOL).' The model utilized approximately 26,000 matches of the LOL game and Keras of Tensorflow. It performed an accuracy of 93.75% without overfitting disadvantage in predicting the '2020 League of Legends Worlds Championship' utilizing the real data in the middle of the game. It employed functions of Sigmoid, Relu and Logcosh, for better performance. The experiments found that the four variables largely affected the accuracy of predicting the match --- 'Dragon Gap', 'Level Gap', 'Blue Rift Heralds', and 'Tower Kills Gap,' and ordinary users can also use the model to help develop game strategies by focusing on four elements. Furthermore, the model can be applied to predicting the match of E-sports professional leagues around the world and to the useful training indicators for professional teams, contributing to vitalization of E-sports.

  • Demand forecasting methods for a consumer product such as TV or refrigerator are widely known. However, sales forecast for a brand new product cannot be estimated using conventional forecasting methods. This study proposes a five-step procedure in forecasting a newly developed product. Step one defines functions in a High Touch product in order to estimate relative attraction of the product to consumer group. In step two, for a comparison purpose, a compatible product that is successfully penetrated into market is selected. Step three breaks a target population into many segments based on demography. Step four calculates relative attraction between the High Touch product and the compatible product. Finally, market penetration rate of the High Touch product is estimated using a bell-shaped diffusion curve of the compatible product. The process offers a method to estimate potential demand and growth pattern of the new High Touch product.

  • In this paperm we provide a plan of construction, employment and management of the Korean postal address database and discuss the design of to-be models for it. For the purpose, we adopt and modify the information strategy planning methodology to fit it into our study. We examine the managerial environments and limitations of the postal services and define the requirements as a result. The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) was chosen as the best practice for a benchmarking and gap analysis with its advanced management of address information. After analyzing the current status of the postal business processes and information systems used, we classify the products and the services of USPS by the process to which they are applied and propose a deployment plan. In order to design a to-be model, we define the operating and managing functions for the address database and specify the scenario according to the functions. By managing the address database and supporting the postal services, it could be possible to make the business competitive and satisfy the customer demands.

  • This paper deals with a theoretical method to calculate natural frequencies of a fixed-free rectangular tank partially in contact with an outer water gap. Orthogonal polynomials satisfying the boundary conditions of the tank are used as admissible functions in the Rayleigh-Ritz method. A quarter model of the liquid-coupled system is constructed and it is simplified to a line supported flat plate in contact with the liquid. The liquid displacement potential functions satisfying the Laplace equation and water boundary conditions are derived, and the finite Fourier transform is accomplished in conjunction with the compatibility requirement along the contacting interfaces between the tank and water. An eigenvalue problem is derived so that the natural frequencies of the wet rectangular tank can be extracted. The predictions from the proposed analytical method show good agreement with the finite element analysis results.
