This study analyzes Two-dimensional video disdrometer (2DVD) data while summer 2011-2012 in Daegu region and compares with Marshall and Palmer (MP) distribution to find out statistical characteristics and characteristics variability about drop size distribution (DSD) of Daegu region. As the characterize DSD of Daegu region, this study uses single moment parameters such as rainfall intensity (R), reflectivity factor (Z) and double moment parameters such as generalized characteristics number concentration ($N{_0}^{\prime}$) and generalized characteristics diameter ($D{_m}^{\prime}$). Also, this study makes an assumption that DSD function can be expressed as general gamma distribution. The results of analysis show that DSD of Daegu region has ${\log}_{10}N{_0}^{\prime}=2.37$, $D{_m}^{\prime}=1.04mm$, and c =2.37, ${\mu}=0.39$ on average. When the assumption of MP distribution is used, these figures then end up with the different characteristics; ${\log}_{10}N{_0}^{\prime}=2.27$, $D{_m}^{\prime}=0.9mm$, c =1, ${\mu}=1$ on average. The differences indicate liquid water content (LWC) of Daegu distribution is generally larger than MP distribution at equal Z. Second, DSD shape of Daegu distribution is concave upward. Other important facts are the characteristics of Daegu distribution change when Z changes. DSD shape of Daegu region changes concave downward (c =2.05~2.55, ${\mu}=0.33{\sim}0.77$) to cubic function-like shape (c =3.0, ${\mu}=-0.13{\sim}-0.33$) at Z > 45 dBZ. 35 dBZ ${\leq}$ Z > 45 dBZ group of Daegu distribution has characteristics similar to maritime cluster of diverse climate DSD study. However, Z > 45 dBZ group of Daegu distribution has a difference from the cluster.
Recently, it is continuously rising to concern about the health risk being induced by microorganisms in food such as Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes. Various organizations and regulatory agencies including U.S.FPA, U.S.DA and FAO/WHO are preparing the methodology building to apply microbial quantitative risk assessment to risk-based food safety program. Microbial risks are primarily the result of single exposure and its health impacts are immediate and serious. Therefore, the methodology of risk assessment differs from that of chemical risk assessment. Microbial quantitative risk assessment consists of tow steps; hazard identification, exposure assessment, dose-response assessment and risk characterization. Hazard identification is accomplished by observing and defining the types of adverse health effects in humans associated with exposure to foodborne agents. Epidemiological evidence which links the various disease with the particular exposure route is an important component of this identification. Exposure assessment includes the quantification of microbial exposure regarding the dynamics of microbial growth in food processing, transport, packaging and specific time-temperature conditions at various points from animal production to consumption. Dose-response assessment is the process characterizing dose-response correlation between microbial exposure and disease incidence. Unlike chemical carcinogens, the dose-response assessment for microbial pathogens has not focused on animal models for extrapolation to humans. Risk characterization links the exposure assessment and dose-response assessment and involve uncertainty analysis. The methodology of microbial dose-response assessment is classified as nonthreshold and thresh-old approach. The nonthreshold model have assumption that one organism is capable of producing an infection if it arrives at an appropriate site and organism have independence. Recently, the Exponential, Beta-poission, Gompertz, and Gamma-weibull models are using as nonthreshold model. The Log-normal and Log-logistic models are using as threshold model. The threshold has the assumption that a toxicant is produce by interaction of organisms. In this study, it was reviewed detailed process including risk value using model parameter and microbial exposure dose. Also this study suggested model application methodology in field of exposure assessment using assumed food microbial data(NaCl, water activity, temperature, pH, etc.) and the commercially used Food MicroModel. We recognized that human volunteer data to the healthy man are preferred rather than epidemiological data fur obtaining exact dose-response data. But, the foreign agencies are studying the characterization of correlation between human and animal. For the comparison of differences to the population sensitivity: it must be executed domestic study such as the establishment of dose-response data to the Korean volunteer by each microbial and microbial exposure assessment in food.
We aimed to setup an adaptive radiation therapy platform using cone-beam CT (CBCT) and multileaf collimator (MLC) log data and also intended to analyze a trend of dose calculation errors during the procedure based on a phantom study. We took CT and CBCT images of Catphan-600 (The Phantom Laboratory, USA) phantom, and made a simple step-and-shoot intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) plan based on the CT. Original plan doses were recalculated based on the CT ($CT_{plan}$) and the CBCT ($CBCT_{plan}$). Delivered monitor unit weights and leaves-positions during beam delivery for each MLC segment were extracted from the MLC log data then we reconstructed delivered doses based on the CT ($CT_{recon}$) and CBCT ($CBCT_{recon}$) respectively using the extracted information. Dose calculation errors were evaluated by two-dimensional dose discrepancies ($CT_{plan}$ was the benchmark), gamma index and dose-volume histograms (DVHs). From the dose differences and DVHs, it was estimated that the delivered dose was slightly greater than the planned dose; however, it was insignificant. Gamma index result showed that dose calculation error on CBCT using planned or reconstructed data were relatively greater than CT based calculation. In addition, there were significant discrepancies on the edge of each beam while those were less than errors due to inconsistency of CT and CBCT. $CBCT_{recon}$ showed coupled effects of above two kinds of errors; however, total error was decreased even though overall uncertainty for the evaluation of delivered dose on the CBCT was increased. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate dose calculation errors separately as a setup error, dose calculation error due to CBCT image quality and reconstructed dose error which is actually what we want to know.
Chungkookjang was fermented by B. subtilis MC31, a ${\gamma}$-amino butyric acid (GABA) producing microorganism. The characteristics of Chungkookjang were investigated while fermenting. Twenty four amino acids were detected in Chungkookjang, leucine was the highest of them all. Total cell populations of B. subtilis MC31 phase were between log $9.52{\pm}0.5$ ~ log $9.049{\pm}0.5$ CFU/g at stationary phase. Contents of moisture, crude ash, crude protein, crude lipid and crude fiber are $61.07{\pm}0.01%$, $1.52{\pm}0.01%$, $17.66{\pm}0.04%$, $8.96{\pm}0.03%$ and 2.61%, respectively. Contents of ammonia type nitrogen, amino type nitrogen and reducing sugar were increased during fermentation at $40^{\circ}C$ for 72 hr, however those of titratable acidity and total sugar were decreased. pH was slowly alkalized during fermentation. Viscous substance and protease contents in Chungkookjang were $4.7{\pm}0.05%$ and $0.519{\pm}7.36$ g/l, apiece. When the fibrin plate and Robbin method for fibrinolytic activity were applied, B. subtilis MC31 showed high activity. These results suggested that B. subtilis MC31 is suitable to be used as a starter to enhance the quality of Chungkookjang.

The radio-sensitivity of pathogens and the effect of irradiation on microbiologican safety and mutagenicity of meat products such as seasoned and cooked beef and ham were investigated. Samples were radiation-sterilized and inoculated at 10/sup 7/ cfu/g with each of the four pathogens including Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli, Staphylcoccus aureus, and Listeria ivanovii. No viable cells of pathogens were observed in the sample irradiated with 3 kGy. The D/sub 10/ value of inoculated pathogens in seasoned and cooked beef and ham were 0.24∼0.48 and 0.39∼0.45, respectively. Results of Ames test performed with non-irradiated and irradiated seasoned and cooked beef and ham were both negative at the level of 625, 1,250, 2,500, 50,000, and! 10,000 ㎍ sample/plate, respectively. Results indicate that low dose (2∼3 kGy) irradiation is effective to ensure safety for seasoned and cooked beef and ham with toxicological wholesomeness.
The unit load of paddy field was estimated by several methods and compared in this study. Four year field study was conducted at the paddy fields located in Yeongsan river and Sumjin river basins. The unit load was estimated by four methods; (1) averaging field monitored load; (2) NIER (National Institute of Environmental Research) method which use EMC(Event Mean Concentration) and runoff ratio of rainfall groups with rainfall weighting factors; (3)method using EMC determined by best fit probability distribution; (4)method using arithmetic mean EMC and runoff ratio. The result of this study showed that the unit loads of water quality constituents by field monitoring was similar to those of NIER method whereas those by probability distribution(log-normal, gamma) method were less than unit loads of NIER method. The unit loads by arithmetic mean EMC and runoff ratio were larger than those by NIER method. The unit load by NIER method showed higher BOD, COD, SS, lesser T-N, and similar T-P values when compared to unit loads determined by MOE in 1995.

The comet assay (also called the single-cell gel electrophoresis assay) has been widely used for detecting DNA damage and repair in individual cells. Since the conventional methods of evaluating comet assay data using frequency statistics are unsatisfactory we developed a new quantitative measure of DNA damage/repair that is based on all information residing in the dose/time-response curves of a comet experiment. Blood samples were taken from 25 breast cancer patients before undergoing radiotherapy. The comet assay was performed under alkaline conditions using isolated lymphocytes. Tail DNA, tail length, tail moment and tail inertia of the comet were measured for each patient at four doses of $\gamma$-rays (0, 2, 4 and 8 Gy) and at four time points after irradiation (0, 10, 20 and 30 min) using 100 cells each. The resulting three-dimensional dose-time response surface was modeled by multiple regression, and the second derivative, termed 2D, on dose and time was determined. A software module was programmed in SAS/AF to compute 2D values. We applied the new method successfully to data obtained from cancer patients to be assessed for their radiation sensitivity. We computed the 2D values for the four damage measures, i.e., tail moment, tail length, tail DNA and tail inertia, and examined the pairwise correlation coefficients of 2D both on the log scale and the unlogged scale. 2D values based on tail moment and tail DNA showed a high correlation and, therefore, these two damage measures can be used interchangeably as far as DNA repair is concerned. 2D values based on tail inertia have a correlation profile different from the other 2D values which may reflect different facets of DNA damage/repair. Using the dose-time response surface, other statistical models, e.g., the proportional hazards model, become applicable for data analysis. The 2D approach can be applied to all DNA repair measures, Le., tail moment, tail length, tail DNA and tail inertia, and appears to be superior to conventional evaluation methods as it integrates all data of the dose/time-response curves of a comet assay.

In this study, the peak wave period Tp and mean wave period T02 and Tm-1, 0, which are major parameters for classifying ocean characteristics, were calculated using water surface elevation data observed from the second west coast oceanographic and meteorological observation tower. In addition, the ratio of abnormal data, correlation analysis, and optimal probability density function were estimated. In the case of Tp among the calculated representative periods, the proportion of abnormal data was 5.73% and 0.67% at each point, and T02 was 4.35% and 0.01%. Tm-1, 0 was found to be 2.82% and 0.03%. Meanwhile, as a result of analyzing the relationship between T02 and Tp, the relationship was calculated to be 0.53 and 0.63 for each point. The relationship between Tm-1, 0 and Tp was 1.15 and 1.32, respectively, and T02, Tm-1, 0 was 1.18 and 1.22. As a result of estimating the optimal probability density function of the calculated representative period, Tp followed the 'Log-normal' and 'Normal' distributions at each point, and T02 was 'Gamma', 'Normal' distribution and Tm-1, 0 showed that 'Log-normal' and 'Normal' distribution were dominant, respectively. It is decided that these results can be used as basic data for wave analysis conducted on the west coast.
Fresh sea squirt meat requires a modified processing and preservation process because it has a short shelf life due to its high moisture content and strong proteolytic enzyme activity. In this study, bottled sea squirt meat prepared in vegetable oil (BSMO) to enhance the consumer acceptability was exposed to ${\gamma}$-ray (Co60, 10 kGy/h) irradiation to extend the shelf life without the use of a heating process. Response surface methodology was used to determine the optimal mixing ratio of BSMO containing 5% dehydrated fresh meat. Texture analysis and nutritional evaluation were also performed on a control and BSMO samples. The volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) content and total cell count were measured to determine the shelf life of irradiated BSMO products during chilled storage at $4^{\circ}C$ for 60 days. According to a panel of 10 trained tasters (aged 20-29 years), the optimal mixing formulation was 80 g meat in 60 mL of mixed vegetable oil (30 mL of olive oil and 30 mL of sesame oil). The highest rated formulation, according to a panel of nine trained tasters (aged ${\geq}30$ years), was 80 g meat in 60 mL of mixed vegetable oil (42 mL of olive oil and 18 mL of sesame oil). Moisture, ash, and protein contents in BSMO did not change significantly (P < 0.05) compared with the control. A higher lipid content ($0.84{\pm}0.23$ to $2.13{\pm}0.61$; P < 0.05) was observed due to the presence of vegetable oil on the surface of BSMO. The vegetable oil raised the hardness, springiness, cohesiveness, gumminess, chewiness, and resilience of BSMO. BSMO products remained edible after 50 days of storage at $4^{\circ}C$ based on the VBN content (BSMO 1: $27.92{\pm}0.96$ mg/100 g, BSMO 2: $24.84{\pm}1.95$ mg/100 g) and total cell count (BSMO 1: $4.60{\pm}0.80$ log CFU/mL, BSMO 2: $3.65{\pm}0.20$ log CFU/mL) when compared with standard levels of VBN (25.00 mg/100 g) and total cell count (5 log CFU/mL), respectively. The results showed that irradiated BSMO products could help to expand the processed seafood market and increase the popularity of seafood among the younger generations.
Pasteurization by radiation was performed to improve the microbiological quality of fresh yam juice. Samples were irradiated at doses of up to 5 kGy and microbiological, physicochemical, and sensory qualities were investigated during storage at 5oC for 8 days. Total aerobic bacterial, coliform bacterial, and yeast and mold counts in pre-irradiation samples were 7.09, 6.91, and 3.42 log CFU/g, respectively. Total aerobic bacterial and coliform counts fell significantly, in a dose-dependent manner, after irradiation, and these organisms were completely eliminated after 1 day of storage when 3 kGy or 5 kGy of radiation was applied. Yeast and molds were eliminated by irradiation at 3 kGy. Irradiation reduced sample viscosity. The $L^*$ value decreased after irradiation, whereas the $b^*$ value rose. Sensory evaluation testing revealed no significant difference between control samples and those irradiated with 1 kGy, except in color and texture, but sensory scores fell when irradiation of 3 kGy or over was employed, except in the taste domain. The results indicate that gamma irradiation with 1 kGy is effective to ensure the microbiological safety of fresh yam juice, without significant alteration in sensory characteristics, although further work should seek to reduce the detrimental effects of irradiation.
