  • The purpose of this paper is to take a look at the current use of multimedia technology in the casino gaming industry. In Las Vegas, there are many things competing for attention, and capturing viewers' interests cannot be effectively accomplished with static posters or flyers at the front desk. What is at stake is billions of dollars in revenue. So understanding the use of multimedia technology in the pursuit of that revenue is a must. Las Vegas has developed some very innovative ways for the use of multimedia technologies that the rest of the business and medical world will soon adapt. Vegas recently faces major competition from Maco for the international business. Maintaining a high level of customer service is paramount in keeping its customer base.

Polarization in the Gaming Industry: The dystopian model

  • What will the gaming industry look like in the future? Where is it heading? Most producers, developers, and gamers have been pondering such questions since the very beginning of video games. This paper asserts that the current trend in video games to emphasize rationalization will, in time, bring about an extreme polarization within the game industry. Each year the barriers to entry are becoming lower and the size of the game market is growing, which will bring about an emphasis on who has the power to be recognized in the industry. This paper argues that such trends will, in turn, lead to a power play in which the winner will always be the player with the most monetary power. In time, this prolonged power play is expected to bring about what this discussion refers to as a dystopian model within the game industry.

The moderating role of motivations in problematic use of online gaming: A study of live streaming viewers of Twitch

  • While the Internet continues to integrate with modern lives, the risks of negative outcomes resulting from problematic use (PU) are also increasing. Although psychological well-being and use motivations have been shown to play major roles in Internet PU, understanding the moderating mechanism is critical for advanced knowledge. The present study employed survey data from users of a live video-game streaming service (LVGS) that is an area rarely been studied. Result concluded a positive moderating effect of escapism motive (EM) on the association between loneliness and the PU of LVGS, while the moderating mechanism between EM and stress was not indicated. A moderating effect of information seeking (IS) on the relationship between stress and the PU of LVGS was found negative, but no mechanism between IS and loneliness was indicated. This study highlights how the interplay of different motivation and pathologies may induce or prevent video-game-related addiction.

  • The third-person side view game perspective of side-scrolling games makes playing such games a completely different gaming experience from other traditional games. Nowadays, many game elements are combined with each other, and horror and puzzle elements are often combined to appear in side-scrolling games, bringing players a unique gaming experience. In such games, players seem to be watching their own manipulation of characters. The performance is the same as a stage play, so how to let players better experience such a horror and puzzle-solving stage play through the design of the characters is a key point. However, it is often difficult to accurately classify only from game elements, so first of all, the author will explain the game division of the side scrolling horror puzzle game. After that, this article will analyze the character designs in the three works with high sales and good reputation on Steam, and then draw conclusions.

  • Entering the digital cinema era, movies and games are remediating each other. The shots of digital movies are being transformed into realistic content through digital Moving long-take shots that transcend time and space and move smoothly. At this time, the digital Moving long take shot that continuously captures the space in all directions without an external screen induces a game experience. In addition, the camera that constantly accompanies the person enhances the sense of immersion in the game in a way similar to the point of view of the game. While various immersive device contents represented by VR, AR and XR are emerging, the advent of <1917> suggests significant implications for post-cinema in that it creates a game experience while maintaining the traditional screen environment and cinematic paradigm.

  • In recent years, virtual reality (VR) technology has been widely used in many industrial fields, especially in the fields of medical treatment, games, film and television, to improve the interaction between medical teaching and practical treatment. On the gaming side, the production of virtual reality gaming screens and scenes became increasingly popular, greatly expanding the form of the visual experience. But VR is no longer confined to the health care, education and entertainment industries. During this time, the news media industry has also begun to integrate virtual reality into interviews and user interactions. This study aims to analyze the development of VR technology from the perspectives of immersive VR news experience, real reporting, and prospects, and analyze and think about the interactive participation of media users, the transformation of traditional media, and the upgrading of practitioners' roles.

NFC를 이용한 아케이드 게임의 O2O 서비스 구현 (Implementation of O2O Service for Arcade Games using NFC)

  • 기존의 아케이드 게임은 오프라인 공간에서만 서비스를 제공 받을 수 있어 시장의 규모가 축소된 상황이다. 본 논문은 기존의 아케이드 게임에 NFC 기술을 이용한 O2O 서비스를 제안한다. 아케이드 게임기기에 NFC 태그를 설치하여 스마트폰의 NFC기능을 이용한 O2O서비스를 하면 유저들에게 결제의 편리함과 게임의 연속성을 제공할 수 있다. 또한 랭킹, 통계, 리플레이를 제공하여 기존의 동네의 고수들을 지역기반의 스타로 만들 수 있고 팬클럽과 같은 커뮤니티의 활성화가 가능할 것이다. 그리고 오프라인에서만 존재했던 오락실의 갤러리들이 O2O 서비스를 통하여 온라인으로 확장될 수 있다. 지역기반의 스타와 온라인 갤러리들은 축소되고 있는 아케이드 게임 시장의 활성화와 아케이드 게임이 E-sports가 되는 것의 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문에서는 아케이드 게임의 O2O 서비스를 구현하기 위한 서버 및 애플리케이션과 각 기능에 대한 기대효과에 대해 제시한다.

주문형 게임 서비스를 위한 장면 기술자 기반 고속 게임 부호화기 (Fast Game Encoder Based on Scene Descriptor for Gaming-on-Demand Service)

  • 주문형 게임 서비스는 서버에서 실행하는 게임을 동영상 부호화하여 클라이언트에 전송하고, 클라이언트에서 비디오 복호화를 통해 게임을 즐길 수 있게 해 준다. 다수의 사용자가 네트워크상에서 실시간 게임 서비스를 즐기기 위해서는 초고속 게임 인코더가 필요하다. 본 논문에서 제안한 방법은 장면 기술자를 정의하고, 이를 게임 영상을 부호화하는 부호화기에 부가적인 정보로 입력함으로써 움직임 예측, 율 왜곡 최적화와 같은 복잡도가 높은 부호화 과정을 생략하여 부호화기를 고속화한다. 장면 기술자를 움직임 벡터로 사용하고, 장면 기술자를 이용하여 매크로블록 모드를 결정해 부호화기를 고속화한다. 제안하는 방법의 성능 평가를 위해 H.264/AVC의 오픈 소프트웨어인 x264와 비교한 결과, x264에 어셈블리 코드가 포함되지 않은 경우에 대해서 약 192%의 부호화 속도 향상을 확인하였고, x264에서 일부 모듈에 대해서 어셈블리 최적화를 반영한 결과에 대해서는 86%의 부호화 속도가 향상되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 부호화기의 고속화 결과 60 FPS의 부호화 속도를 넘어 주문형 게임을 실시간으로 수행할 수 있게 되었다.
