A study concerning the technicality of game scenario writing (게임시나리오의 전문성에 관한 연구)

  • Gaming is a high value-added industry. In order to promote the gaming industry, there must be more scenario writers in the position of quality control. However, the reality in Korea is that there are not enough game scenario writers or work available. That is because traditional scenario writers cannot easily enter the game scenario field due to the unique techniques involved In game scenario writing, which differs from traditional film scenario work. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the unique skills and technicalities evident in game scenarios based upon theories studied so far. Hopefully, this thesis will give a better understanding of the significance of using game scenario writers to schools and companies.

HF RFID Reader Antenna with Loop Switch for Avoiding Magnetic Coupling

  • This paper studies the magnetic coupling between two adjacent loop antennas that are parallel to each other in a plane and presents a new practical method to avoid the resulting magnetic coupling interference. The study focuses on the high frequency radio-frequency identification (RFID) system for casino applications, where several loop antennas are closely built into a game table to monitor gaming chips. In this case, neighboring loop antennas may severely interfere with each other by magnetic coupling, which leads to the malfunction of the RFID system. In this paper, we present a practical loop antenna with a new loop switch circuit for avoiding magnetic coupling. The loop switch circuit is integrated with a matching circuit and automatically operated by using an interrogating signal from a reader. We verified the validity of the proposed design by showing that an RFID reader with the proposed antenna can exactly and separately read the gaming chips placed on the different betting zones of a game table.

Extracting Graphics Information for Better Video Compression

  • Cloud gaming services are heavily dependent on the efficiency of real-time video streaming technology owing to the limited bandwidths of wire or wireless networks through which consecutive frame images are delivered to gamers. Video compression algorithms typically take advantage of similarities among video frame images or in a single video frame image. This paper presents a method for computing and extracting both graphics information and an object's boundary from consecutive frame images of a game application. The method will allow video compression algorithms to determine the positions and sizes of similar image blocks, which in turn, will help achieve better video compression ratios. The proposed method can be easily implemented using function call interception, a programmable graphics pipeline, and off-screen rendering. It is implemented using the most widely used Direct3D API and applied to a well-known sample application to verify its feasibility and analyze its performance. The proposed method computes various kinds of graphics information with minimal overhead.

  • Humans have often been used gesture to communicate with each other. The communication between computer and person was also not different. To interact with a computer, we command with gesture, keyboard, mouse and extra devices. Especially, the gesture is very useful in many environments such as gaming and VR(Virtual Reality), which requires high specification and rendering time. In this paper, we propose a gesture recognition method based on CNN model to apply to gaming and real-time applications. Deep learning for gesture recognition is processed in a separated server and the preprocessing for data acquisition is done a client PC. The experimental results show that the proposed method is in accuracy higher than the conventional method in game environment.

  • Approaches to find hidden values using various and enormous amount of data are on the rise. As big data processing becomes easier, companies directly collects data generated from users and analyzes as necessary to produce insights. User-based data are utilized to predict patterns of gameplay, in-game symptom, eventually enhancing gaming. Accordingly, in this study, we tried to analyze the gaming strategy and user activity patterns utilizing Battlegrounds in-game data to detect the in-game hack.

  • As the gaming industry grows, the need to understand and study on game Addiction and overindulgence have also grown. For this object, in this study, the author first studied how game elements and game mechanisms were categorized by using previous studies. As a result, game elements are divided into three elements that compose visual, competitive, and probability elements. And the game mechanisms that establish three elements were grouped into subcategories. Risk of competitive and visual element that effect on overindulgence is depended on what mechanism has used. But, in the probability element, Gambling mechanism must be viewed in terms of addiction, not overindulgence.

  • This study is a study on the mobile gamification of PC games through analysis of the differences between PC games and mobile games, their respective advantages, and operation patterns, and attempts to extract important key elements of the mobile game process. The main methods of converting PC games to mobile games were analyzed and presented in four ways: complete transplantation, simplification, specialization and new genreization based on the standard of existing PC games. It is expected that PC games can play a role in providing guidelines for mobile gamification of PC games through the case analysis of existing games that have been converted to mobile games, as well as providing a path for the development and trends of game companies.

  • High turnover and short tenure in the gaming industry has been a problem since the 2000s. Although high turnover can increase the flexibility of working hours, it has a negative impact on labor stability, and the negative effects of turnover outweigh the positive effects for companies, so efforts are needed to reduce turnover intention, an antecedent of turnover. Therefore, this study investigated the factors affecting turnover intention of employees in the game industry, focusing on organizational commitment and job satisfaction, which are factors that affect turnover intention through previous studies. The results of the regression analysis and mediation effect verification by conducting a questionnaire survey on 221 employees in the game industry showed that emotional engagement among the components of organizational commitment influences turnover intention through job satisfaction. Therefore, it is important to provide goals such as game release and rewards to keep employees emotionally engaged in order to reduce turnover intention.

  • Game Rating Board(GRB) of Korea set up in 29 October, 2006 has been 7th years and it will disappear in 23 November, 2013. For the first time the 'GRB' of Korea has the goal which held the nonofficial transfer of rating classification for game. But it had the justification which become more distant from the nonofficial transfer due to the affairs of 'See Story' in August, 2006. As a result, because of rapid normalization of game rating rather than the systematic transfer from 'Video Rating Board' of Korea cause no preparation of scientific professional rating review. It showed the entry-level appearance though stressing profession from the beginning of setup. Specially more transaction expense were increased because of no consistency and predictability for game review. However, it could be overcome by preparation for definite global standard and scientific rating system. Consequently technological possibility of BMM Korea based on 'Gaming Laboratory Institute(GLI)' standard expected to be alternative in the technical review of the adult arcade game.

  • It is no longer special for the gaming industry to provide a community to promote their games. Much prior research related to the community also focuses on the spread of community influence and its importance. In particular, the user community in the gaming industry is having a big impact on the company's revenue creation beyond the simple level of information provision and promotion of friendship. Therefore, providing a community at the same time as the game is released is becoming a common trend in the gaming industry This study attempted to explore factors influencing the design of more effective communities under the assumption that the user community will influence the loyalty of mobile games. The design elements of the community suggested in this study are the provision of interaction tools between users, the provision of information, and communication between the game maker and the users. This study aims to confirm that these design factors affect customer loyalty by reinforcing user empathy and trust in the game within the user community. After collecting data from 251 users active in the mobile game user community, the model presented in this study was empirically analyzed. As a result, the design elements of the game community suggested in this study were found to affect customer loyalty by strengthening the empathy for the game and the trust in the game developer.
