  • This study investigated the types and characteristics of arcade games that have marked the beginning of the game industry. Arcade game equipment have been largely evolved from 'mechanical arcade game equipment' to 'electro-mechanical arcade game equipment', and to 'video arcade game equipment' In these evolution processes, arcade games have had unique characteristics distinct from other game platforms. These characteristics included the properties of 'space' and 'time', 'original form of gameplay', 'simple interface' and 'performance feasibility.' The recent stagnation of arcade games was due to the fact that the characteristics of arcade games started to lose their unique characteristics since these were also spread to other platform of games.

  • This paper presents an investigation into time in games. Many researchers have studied time in games including Jesper Juul (2004), arranging time in games according to the criterion of the concept of time in reality. Most of this research distinguishes internal time from external time in games. The present study, thus, examined internal time in games from the viewpoint of the observer, believing that the most important element of the game was gameness or play and further experience rather than the relationship between reality and games. Thus, the investigator classified internal time in games into "oriented time" and "non-oriented time" and examined the operations of those time classifications in the gamers' experiences.

  • The Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM) model employ to explore the factors that affect the switching intention of mobile game players by analyzing the online survey data of 240 mobile game players in China. From the perspective of PPM model, Dissatisfaction with the current mobile game can promote players to leave the current mobile game, and other more attractive mobile games can pull players out of the current mobile game. As a mooring factor, habit can affect players' switching decisions. Players who have formed strong habits in current mobile games are more likely to resist or ignore the attractiveness of other mobile games and stay in the current mobile games rather than migrate to other mobile games. Another result shows that the more dissatisfied with the current mobile game, the higher the quality of alternative (relative challenge) mobile game, and the lower the investment size in the current mobile game, the more reluctant the players are to continue to maintain the relationship with the current mobile game. The higher the player's commitment to the current mobile game, the more likely it is to maintain the relationship with the current mobile game. The empirical results show that the framework of this study is highly consistent with the results of PPM model, and confirming that they can well apply to mobile game situations.

The raw data from the 2018 Survey on Youth Gambling Problems were used. Using a sample of 5,101 school adolescents who were from first-grade middle school students to second-grade high school students and who experienced betting games during the last three months, this study conducted cross tabulation and logistic regression analyses. Of the adolescents who experienced betting games, 17.8% experienced on-line games that were composed of 4.9% in illegal gambling, 2.4% in speculative games, and 0.4% in legalized gambling. Compared to land-based modes of gambling, on-line illegal gambling, legalized gambling, and speculative games were associated with higher odds of problem gambling. While on-line illegal gambling was associated with higher odds of problem gambling for female adolescents, on-line illegal gambling, legalized gambling, and speculative games were associated with higher odds of problem gambling for male adolescents. This study discussed intervention strategies to address problem gambling and modes of betting games among adolescents.
