A Study on the Impact of Organizational Commitment on Turnover Intention of Gaming Industry Workers : Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Job Satisfacti (게임업계 종사자의 조직몰입이 이직의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 직무만족 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • High turnover and short tenure in the gaming industry has been a problem since the 2000s. Although high turnover can increase the flexibility of working hours, it has a negative impact on labor stability, and the negative effects of turnover outweigh the positive effects for companies, so efforts are needed to reduce turnover intention, an antecedent of turnover. Therefore, this study investigated the factors affecting turnover intention of employees in the game industry, focusing on organizational commitment and job satisfaction, which are factors that affect turnover intention through previous studies. The results of the regression analysis and mediation effect verification by conducting a questionnaire survey on 221 employees in the game industry showed that emotional engagement among the components of organizational commitment influences turnover intention through job satisfaction. Therefore, it is important to provide goals such as game release and rewards to keep employees emotionally engaged in order to reduce turnover intention.

  • The recent growth of smartphone users and high speed network has fueled the expansion of the market for mobile application. Among these applications with various purposes, smartphone games are the hottest contents on this market. Smartphone games are far different from former games due to their new input and output interface (e.g. touch sensors and gyro sensors).It is possible that the most resonable way to categorize these new smartphone games is comparisons of different objects, in this case, various smarphone games. But there exists no classification of the games neither for the use of the market nor the purpose of researches. Even though there are few classifications for games, those classifications have a major flaw that their criteria are derived from superficial features of games. In this paper, we propose a new method to categorize smartphone games through game mechanics of principal design components.

Applying SCORM to Game Based Learning Contents (SCORM 적용 게임기반학습 콘텐츠 개발)

  • ADL SCORM(Sharable Content Object Reference Model) has been widely accepted as a global reference model for standardizing e-learning technology, and SCORM 2004 4th Edition, a stable version of SCORM, gives content developers the efficient way to build interoperable and reusable e-learning contents. Recently, a number of research efforts have been taken to build on-line SCORM contents based on some traditional training or learning styles. However, they have lacked for supporting more sophisticated learning style such as game based learning, and especially they do not consider employing the specific components of SCORM model for developing game based learning contents in practice. In this work, we elicit some SCORM data elements that is useful for representing game run-time data, and apply those elements to SCORM sequencing of game based learning SCOs(Sharable Content Objects). We thus present the whole procedure of developing SCORM game based learning contents with a sample contents.

SoMA: A System of Making Avatars based on a Commercial Game Engine (SoMA: 상용 게임엔진 기반의 아바타 생성 시스템)

  • We propose the SoMA(System of Making Avatars) based on a commercial 3D game engine. It first decomposes a given character into assemblable pieces, then gives the user them as prefab components so that he or she can reassemble and/or customize them to be plenty of characters. To accomplish this, it implements the character assembly structure as an hierarchy, the upper levels of which are categorized for gross assembly, and the lower levels of which are parameterized for detailed customization. It also defines a hierarchical naming convention for ease of access to the structure. Finally, it provides body, clothes, and attachment systems to make relevant characters.

  • This paper attempts to investigate the establishment of an interactive knowledge base for action planning by virtual agents and an interactive knowledge-based planning system. A fixed knowledge base is unable to properly handle a change in circumstances because fixed planning is only available under a fixed knowledge base. Therefore, this paper proposes the establishment of an interactive knowledge base which is applicable to diverse environments and an artificial intelligence planning system in which an interactive knowledge base is available. The interactive knowledge base proposed in this paper consists of motivation, behavior, object and action. The association relationship between knowledge base and its input is set using an automation tool. With this tool, a user can easily add to or amend the components of the knowledge base. With this knowledge base, a character plans all action items and chooses one of them to take an action. Since a new action can be applicable by updating the knowledge base even when the character environment changes, it is very useful for virtual reality content developers. This paper has established a relationship between scalable interactive knowledge base components and other components and proposes a convenient input tool and a planning system algorithm effective for an interactive knowledge base. The results of this study have been verified through testing in a virtual environment ('virtual library').

  • The purpose of this study is to comprehend the characteristics of collaborative examples in mobile games by analyzing the types of cultural fusion and their utilization in mobile game industry. The major examples of collaborations include the collaborative works utilizing artists, characters, and products by examining the practical collaborations within international mobile games between the years 2010 to 2014. The most typical kind of collaboration among them is the utilization of characters, composed of using characters between games, applying animation characters, borrowing cartoon or web-cartoon characters, hiring famous celebrities, or even including great men in their games. Therefore, the characteristics of mobile game's collaborative types are confirmed as below by studying the above examples. (1) There are many examples of collaborating between different types of businesses defined as 'conversion type fusion.' (2) The character utilization is the most sought after type of collaboration. (3) The applied content's target audience seems to share the same age groups of the game's audience. (4) The game industry always adopts the components that could be recognized instantly. (5) The status and influence of mobile game have risen greatly. Consequently, this research has important role in establishing the strategic collaborative plans for mobile game business by expanding the prospects of game related researches and industrial and academic theories.

A Study on the Cases of the Problem Posing which the Mathematically Gifted Students Made in the NIM Game (수학영재들이 NIM 게임 과제에서 만든 문제 만들기 사례 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the cases of the posed problems while the mathematically gifted students are playing the NIM game. The findings of a qualitative case study have led to the conclusions as follows. Most of all mathematically gifted students in the elementary school are not intend to suggest the solutions of the posed problem unless the teacher or the 'problem is requested. But a higher level of promising children were changing each data components of a problem in a consistent way and restructuring the problems while controlling their cognitive process. This is compared to that a relatively lower level of promising children tends to modify one or two data components instantly without trying to look at the whole structure. And we gave 2 suggestions to teach the mathematically gifted students in the problem posing.

  • As non-face-to-face culture melts into people's daily lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic, interest in the metaverse has also increased significantly. There are several types of metaverse depending on the purpose of applications. With this recent explosive interest in the metaverse platform and demanding applications on it, there have been various contents for metaverse in progress in industries. However, developing such contents has many real problems since there is no valuable guidelines for metaverse contents development in industry. In this study, we aim to propose a development guideline that developers can refer to for game-type metaverse content by comparative analysis of existing contents among various metaverse types. In the development guideline, we derive common characteristic components of representative features for game-type metaverse platforms and give explanations on developing strategies. Such proposed development guidelines are verified by game-type metaverse field experts by survey.

  • Interactive real-time 3D enables users to explore virtual three dimensional environments and also experience contents in an absorbing fashion. Unlike other media, Interactive real-time 3D users take an active role in the process of "real-time fashion" where action and reaction occur instantly in a digital 3D structure. Once the components and origins of interactive real-time 3D is made, it is possible making principles of the beauty that help decide success or failure of real-time 3D in two way system. Substantial real-time 3D has not yet passed 10 years so it was unable to make sufficient precedents of fundamental artistic value based upon the credibility of the media. The goal is to explain the new form of design in relation to general principles of arts at the same time to understand the technical definition better. Concepts of historical documentation are explained with an example of categorization of recent video game and recent technology. This thesis concludes with rough forecast on the future interactive real time 3D. Since the medium began relatively recently and is developing in the rapid pace, recent analyses, though clear forecast is difficult, tend to investigate potential directions to some level the field allows.

The Information Leisure Activity of the Aging Generation and the Analysis of Meaning (노년기 소비자의 정보화 여가활동 연구와 의미 분석)

  • Many social and environmental changes have emerged due to the increasing size of the aging generation. This study explored the current status of the information leisure activity of the aging generation (computer use activity, internet service participation, social community participation and blogging, UCC, etc.) and the need for serious games among elderly consumers. It analyzed the current status of serious game and information leisure span as determined by experts on elderly care at the aging welfare institute. The research methods involved applying content analysis and focus group interviews. The results were as follows: The elderly are willing to enjoy the internet and economics networks. In particular, economic investment, economic news, health, meetings, and communication are the main internet search categories. The results for serious games are less interesting than those for IT participation. The components of usefulness in terms of serious games, as identified by care experts, are simplicity, a user-friendly interface, efficacy, and certainty in using the game device. Care experts recognize that serious games represent a supplementary device to traditional physical and emotional therapy.
