  • In a game, the visual environment element is a means of expressing the intention of the developer, and is mediums that enable the player to gain to play experience of interaction. In this paper, the player's reaction to the visual environmental elements of the adventure game was patterned with a collection and analysis process by empirical experiments. The data collected through the experiment were about 10,000, and as a result of the analysis, 24 types of player reaction patterns were found in total. This can be used as a guideline for game space design by matching the properties of visual environment elements and the reactions against players occurring in the game play process to examine the play experience.

  • Effective and Economic game evaluation before game publishing is very important for game development company. In this paper, we designed and developed an effective web based game evaluation system according to three major game genre including MMORPG, FPS, and web game. The proposed evaluation model consists of five evaluation items such as game interest, competitiveness, technology, earning power, and market value and has common evaluation items and independent ones according to game genre. To reflect characteristics of each game genre, we divided evaluation items into common evaluation elements and individual ones according to game genre. We applied the proposed system to two real games of a game development company and showed the result.

  • Purpose Research purpose is extraction of the factors affecting game flow and satisfaction in mobile game. Design/methodology/approach In mobile game, the factors affecting game flow were classified into three parts: mobile game platform characteristics, user cognition characteristics, and user individual characteristics through previous studies for existing online game and mobile game. In the research we extracted the factors as follows: the connectivity, usability, network speed, pleasure, service quality, relatedness, proficiency, self-fulfillment, early adopter tendency, and competitive spirit. Using the factors, we established research model and tested hypotheses empirically. This survey was conducted five months targeting from teenagers to fifties with mobile game experience. The questionnaire items were reconstructed according to the questionnaires of the present study or those newly developed by the game experts and total 56 items in the literature of Internet game, smartphone game, and mobile game based on the existing literature study respectively. • A game player experiences gameplay that game designer sets in play space according to goal of a game. Player's experiential behaviors are affected by the space structure of game level and its arrangements. Therefore, it is an important process to understand and analyze the space structure of game level at the initial stage of game designing. In this paper, we was aimed to analyze the space structure and components of FPS game level based on space theory. To attain the objective, observation was carried out on a total of 204 levels in 3 different kinds of FPS games and the difference in the distribution of spatial composition factors by the goal of a game level was identified. As a result of the analysis, experiential behaviors in the play space show a clear difference according to the goal of the game level and the space structure that derives this is different.

  • As game item trading becomes more popular with the rapid growth of online game market, the market for trading game items by cash has increased up to KRW 1.6 trillion. Thanks to this active market, it has been easy to turn these items and game money into real money. As a result, some malicious users have often attempted to steal other players' rare and valuable game items by using their account. Therefore, this study proposes a detection model through analysis on these account thieves' behavior in the Massive Multiuser Online Role Playing Game(MMORPG). In case of online game identity theft, the thieves engage in economic activities only with a goal of stealing game items and game money. In this pattern are found particular sequences such as item production, item sales and acquisition of game money. Based on this pattern, this study proposes a detection model. This detection model-based classification revealed 86 percent of accuracy. In addition, trading patterns when online game identity was stolen were analyzed in this study.

  • Various methods for creating interesting games are used in the development process. Because the empirical part is difficult to measure and analyze, it usually only measures and analyzes the parts where data are easy to quantify. This is a clear limit to the fact that the experience of the game is important. This study proposes a system that recognizes the face of a game user and measures the emotion change from the recognized information in order to easily quantify the experience of the user who is playing the game. The system recognizes emotions and records them in real time from the face of the user who is playing the game. These recorded data include time and figures related to the progress of the game, and numerical values for emotions recognized from the face. Using the recorded data, it is possible to judge what kind of emotion the game induces to the user at a certain point in time. Numerical data on the recorded empirical part using the system of this study is expected to help develop the game according to the developer 's intention.
