  • Byul-Gam is a low-ranking official who takes charge of sundry services in Yi-Dynasty court, and escorts his king when he make a honored going. Uniforms of Byul-Gam are noted for their gaiety. This study aims at inquiring into uniforms of Byul-Gam through historical records. The resultant findings are as follows: 1) Uniforms of Byul-Gam are divided into full dress and ordinary clothes. 2) The full dress has two kinds of style. One is Dan-Ryung, a kind of robe, clad together with Gun as a headdress. This robe is blue, Gun for king's Byul-Gam violet, and Gun for the Crown Prince's Byul-Gam blue. The other is a combination of yellow Cho-Rip and red Chup-Ri. This is a military uniform. 3) Ordinary dresses for Byul-Gam are orange Cho-Rip and red Jik-Ryung. Underwear in this case is Hyup-Joo-Um and Chup-Ri. Hyup-Joo-Um is a kind of robe. Inside it Korean style of jacket and slacks are usually clad. 4) As time passed, the uniform of Byul-Gam had been changed from Cheong-Dan-Ryung to Hong-Dan-Ryung, and Jik-Ryung had been shifted to a full dress. 5) Only five remains of Jik-Ryung for Byul-Gam have been handed down to us. The analysis of those indicate that they gradually became similar to Duru-Magi, a kind of Korean robe. This fact is common in the other transfiguring process of dresses of robe kind.

  • To investigate an effect of Gam-Roa tea on the free radical or alcohol detoxicating enzyme activities, the rats got a drink at the Gam-Roa tea instead of water for 3 months, and then the animals were sacrificed and obtained the following findings. The animals receiving Gam-Roa tea showed a decreasing tendency of hepatic xanthine oxithine oxidase activity and significantly incresed content of cytochrome P-450 compared with the control. Furthermore, hepatic superoxide dismutase and glutathione S-transferase activities were also more increased in rats received Gam-Roa tea than in the control group, those receiving water. On the other hand, alcohol or aldehyde dehydrogenase activities were more increased in rats receiving Gam-Roa tea than the control. In conclusion, it is likely that the liver of rats receiving Gam-Roa tea may have the oxygen free radical or alcohol detoxication potential.

  • Objectives In the later period of Choseon dynasty, korean pediatrics became a pivot part of medicine. SoAUiBang was the most important book in that era. DongEuiBoGam was the most widely read of all oriental medicine books and published in early days of the Choseon dynasty. Therefore, this comparative study on the prescription and formation of SoAUiBang and DongEuiBoGam could be a useful way to understand SoAUiBang's characteristics. Methods This study was based on SoAUiBang and DongEuiBoGam, two literatures of oriental medicine. Results 1. Formation of SoAUiBang had a similar aspect with that of DongEuiBoGam's and enlarged the area of pediatrics by featuring general medical books. However, its formation did not follow the DongEuiBoGam's, but had its unique formation. It tried to include all diseases of pediatrics in the system of DongEuiBoGam. Plus, smallpox and measles belonged to the epidemic diseases were excluded from the area of pediatrics. 2. Comparing SoAUiBang's prescription of some important diseases with DongEuiBoGam's, it was almost a prescription based on DongEuiBoGam's prescription. However, adjustment of herbs and dosages could not be found in any oriental medicine books including DongEuiBoGam. Conclusions SoAUiBang maintained the traditional Oriental medicine based on author's scholarly creativeness. In addition, it also inherited the lineage of medicine in Korea along with the pedigree of DongEuiBoGam. Therefore, SoAUiBang should be re-evaluated as a medicine book that opened a new field of pediatric and had great academic values.

(Heo Jun), the best physician on his day, wrote (DongEuiBoGam, 1613) based on his clinical experience as a court doctor and life-long study of over 500 medical books. Now most clinicians consult (DongEuiBoGam) for its practicality. And it is also considered as one of the most valuable medical books for basic medical studies. As 許浚(Heo Jun) mentioned on the 東醫寶鑑(DongEuiBoGam) preface. we should practice flexibility on the interpretation of the medical classics instead of binding ourselves to the precedents. But worship of 東醫寶鑑(DongEuiBoGam) may hinder the studying of new pathways. The treatment and its understandings of a disease should be based on objectivity of observation. Finding the common traits of the recipes in 東醫寶鑑(DongEuiBoGam) is important for the study of 東醫寶鑑(DongEuiBoGam). Accordingly, group synthesis of symptoms and resultant classification of recipes are vital. In this research, symptoms listed in the head part(頭門) of External Shape vol. I(外形篇 卷1) of 東醫寶鑑(DongEuiBoGam) are synthesized into 3 different parts: head-wind syndrome(頭風證), dizziness(眩暈), headache(頭痛). Classification of prescriptions according to these 3 parts is also suggested.

(DongEuiBoGam) is considered as one of the most valuable medical books for Korean traditional medicine. Since 許浚(Heo Jun), the best physician on his day, wrote (DongEuiBoGam), it has been not only a guidebook for basic medical studies, but also a field manual for clinicians. (DongEuiBoGam) is a medical encyclopedia which integrated more than 81 medial classics. And its contents is well organized according to the symptoms of each disease. So today most clinics refer to 東醫寶鑑(DongEuiBoGam). But if we just read (DongEuiBoGam) and use the prescriptions without understanding, the effect of medicine will be reduced by half. We should totally understand recipes in 東醫寶鑑(DongEuiBoGam) and be able to change the recipes according to the symptoms of each patient's disease. So finding the common traits of the recipes in 東醫寶鑑(DongEuiBoGam) is very important. In this research, the recipes of the fire part(火門) of Various Disease vol. Ⅲ(雜病篇 卷之三) are analyzed according to the traits of each herb in the recipes. And new classification of prescriptions according to the community of their traits is also suggested.

When Heo-Joon worte Dong-Eue-Bo-Gam(東醫寶鑑) between 1596 and 1610, it was the time for the people's healthy to be threatened by all kinds of infections and malnutrition. Dong-Eue-Bo-Gam(東醫寶鑑) compiled Chinese medical books and our medical books that still exists systematically. Especially there was Dan-Bang-Mun(單方門), medical art that is to use only one herb, at the end of each chapter for the people to treat disease. There was Tang-Aek-Pyun the end of Dong-Eue-Bo-Gam(東醫寶鑑). In this part, as it says herbs in rural areas were written in details, it was easy for everyone to get herbs to prevent any disease and to treat their sickness. That's why I'd like to succeed to our senior doctors' spirit for the medicine. So I decided to study Tang-Aek-Pyun that is based on Dan-Bang-Mun in Dong-Eue-Bo-Gam(東醫寶鑑) and many herbs that refer to the 4th of Gang-Je-By-Geup(廣濟秘笈). Medicine that was introduced in Dan-Bang-Mun(單方門) was 860 kinds of medicine. Among them, I choose about 3 kinds of medicine that was used the most frequently.

  • Scientific analysis of crime hot spots is essential in preventing and/or suppressing crime. However, results could be different depending on the analytic methods, which highlights the importance of choosing adequate tools. The purpose of this study was to introduce two advanced techniques for detecting crime hot spots, GAM and Local Moran's I, hoping for more police agencies to adopt better techniques.GAM controls for the number of population in study regions, but local Moran's I does not. That is, GAM detects high crime rate areas, whereas local Moran's I identifies high crime volume areas. For GAM, physical disorder was used as a proxy measure for population at risk based on the logic of the broken windows theory. Different regions were identified as hot spots. Although GAM is generally regarded as a more advanced method in that it controls for population, it's usage is limited to only point data. Local Moran's I is adequate for zonal data, but suffers from the unavoidable MAUP(Modifiable Areal Unit Problem).
