We determined the warp parameters of 192 warped galaxies which are selected from 340 edge-on galaxies using color images as well as r-band isophotal maps. We derive the local background density (${\Sigma}_n$) to examine the dependence of the warp amplitudes on the galaxy environment. We find a clear trend that strongly warped galaxies are likely to be found in high density regions where tidal interactions are supposed to be frequent. However, the correlation between ${\alpha}_{\omega}$ and ${\Sigma}_n$ is too weak for weakly warped galaxies (${\alpha}_{\omega}$ < $4^{\circ}$) and the cumulative distributions of weakly warped galaxies are not significantly different from those of galaxies with no detectable warps. This suggests that tidal interactions do not play a decisive role in the formation of weak warps.
In order to obtain a clearer understanding on the evolution of Our Galaxy, we are currently undertaking a series of spectroscopic observation for few hundreds metal poor halo stars. As the first result, we present the chemical abundance measurements for 15 metal-poor dwarf stars in the solar neighborhood. The observation was made with the BOES #4-fiber, providing the effective resolving power R=32000. (omitted)
We carried out photometric and spectroscopic observatious of the blue compact dwarf galaxy Haro 6 in the Virgo Cluster of Galaxies. The long-slit spectroscopy was employed at three position angles, $\Phi$=$0^{\circ}$, $\Phi$=$30^{\circ}$, and $\Phi$=$120^{\circ}$with CCD camera mounted on the Cassegrain Spectrograph. Based on the mean intrinsic axial ratio < $q_0$ >=0.3, we derived inclination I of the system as $44^{\circ}$using our composite V-band CCD image. Careful analysis on the velocity field of the system shows an asymptotically fiat rotation curve with the maximum rotational velocity $V(r)_{max}$ reaches about 12km/sec. The calculation of the dynamical mass of Haro 6 with a simple mass model is briefly discussed with emphasis on the mass to luminosity ratio. From the IRAS Point Source Cataloque, we derived dust-to-gas ratio which indicates relatively low dust content, thus tempting us to conjecture the youth of the system.

We conducted a deep CCD observations in V band to obtain stellar density distribution and to determine the distances toward two molecular clouds with anomalous velocity in the Galactic anti-center region. Star count method based on the linear programming technique was applied to the CCD photometric data. We found two prominent peaks at distances of around 1.4 and 2.7 kpc. It is found that the first peak coincides well with stellar density enhancement of B8-A0 stars and the second one with the outer Perseus arm. The effect of the choice of the luminosity function is discussed. The stellar number density distribution is used to derive the distances to the molecular clouds and the visual extinctions caused by the clouds. We found that two molecular clouds are located almost at the same distance of about 1.1 $\pm$ 0.1 kpc, and the peak extinctions caused by the clouds are about 2.2 $\pm$ 0.3 mag in V band.
Previous HI survey data have shown that the central HI gas in the Milky Way that resides within ~1.5 kpc of the Galactic Centre (GC) is tilted by ${\sim}15^{\circ}$ with respect to the Galactic plane. Although several models, such as a tilted disk model, have been suggested to interpret the observed morphology of the HI layer, it is still unknown what causes and how it preserves its tilted structure. We study the behavior of a gas disk near the GC using an N-body / SPH code. Our galaxy model includes four components; nuclear bulge, bulge, disk and halo. We construct a HI model whose radius is 1.3 kpc, scale height is 100 pc and mass is $3.6{\times}10^6M_{\odot}$. We also assume that the gas disk is initially tilted $30^{\circ}$ with respect to the Galactic plane. Here we report our simulation results and discuss the evolution of the tilted gas disk.
Recent redshift surveys suggest that most galaxies may be distributed on the surfaces of bubbles surrounding large voids. To investigate the quantitative consistency of this qualitative picture of large-scale structure, we study analytically the clustering properties of galaxies in a universe filled with spherical shells. In this paper, we report the results of the calculations for the spatial and angular two-point correlation functions of galaxies. With ${\sim}20%$ of galaxies in clusters and a power law distribution of shell sizes, $n_{sh}(R){\sim}R^{-{\alpha}}$, ${\alpha}\;{\simeq}\;4$, the observed slope and amplitude of the spatial two-point correlation function ${\xi}_{gg}(r)$ can be reproduced. (It has been shown that the same model parameters reproduce the enhanced cluster two-point correlation function, ${\xi}_{cc}(r)$). The corresponding angular two-point correlation function $w({\theta})$ is calculated using the relativistic form of Limber's equation and the Schecter-type luminosity function. The calculated w(${\theta}$) agrees with the observed one quite well on small separations (${\theta}{\lesssim}2deg$).
Cosmological shock waves result from supersonic flow motions induced by hierarchical clustering during the large-scale structure formation in the Universe. Suprathermal particles are known to be produced via plasma interactions at collisionless shocks in tenuous plasmas and they can be further accelerated to become cosmic rays (CRs) via diffusive shock acceleration (DSA). The presence of CR electrons has been inferred from observations of diffuse radio halos and relics in some merging galaxy clusters. We have calculated the emissions from CR electrons accelerated at weak planar shocks, using time-dependent DSA simulations that include energy losses via synchrotron emission and Inverse Compton scattering. The simulated nonthermal emission are used to model the synchrotron emission from several observed radio relics.

We present an investigation of X-ray hot gas halo in 12 isolated early-type galaxies from cross-matched sample of XMM-Newton and SDSS DR 7(0.025 < z < 0.08588 and Mr <-19.5). Isolated galaxies that the separation between galaxy and the closest neighbor is farther than its virial radius are not affected by environments, and their X-ray hot gas halo can be studied without contribution of intragalactic medium in all circumstances. We find that isolated galaxies in low density have correlation of $L_X-L_R$ and those in high density have no trend. This suggests that internal process is much effective in low density and environmental effects play important role of this relationship in high density. We also find the galaxies affected by environments in the large scale structure. In this paper, we report preliminary results for the study.
Recent wide and deep surveys allow us to investigate the large scale structure of the Universe at high redshift. We present studies of the clustering of high redshift galaxies, using reprocessed UKIDSS DXS catalogue. We measure the angular correlation function of high redshift galaxies which is Extremely Red Objects (EROs). Firstly we found that their angular correlation functions can be described by a broken power-law. We also found that red or bright samples are more strongly clustered than those having the opposite characteristics, and that old, passive EROs are found to be more clustered than dustry, star-forming EROs. Additionally the average halo mass and other properties were estimated using the halo model. Finally the observed clustering of EROs was compared with predictions from the cosmological simulation.

We developed a real-time CCD photometric program for IBM PC compatibles. This program can perform several functions necessary for CCD photometry such as telescope control. filter rotation, CCD camera control and data acquisition, two-dimensional image processing, simple aperture photometry and automatic differential photometry. The image processing of a spiral galaxy M51 observed with the SNU 61cm reflector shows a well developed spiral structure. Simple aperture photometric results of 14 stars in open cluster NGC 6871 almost accorded with those from IRAF/APPHOT. And we could confirm the light variation of eclipsing binary EM Cep by simultaneous automatic differential photometry of 7stars in NGC 7160. Due to the excellence in the precision and efficiency of automatic differential photometry using CCD. this program is very useful for the study of small amplitude ${\delta}$ Sct type variables and of the photometric stability of B ${\sim}$ F type stars.
