Data Mining-Aided Automatic Landslide Detection Using Airborne Laser Scanning Data in Densely Forested Tropical Areas

  • Landslide is a natural hazard that threats lives and properties in many areas around the world. Landslides are difficult to recognize, particularly in rainforest regions. Thus, an accurate, detailed, and updated inventory map is required for landslide susceptibility, hazard, and risk analyses. The inconsistency in the results obtained using different features selection techniques in the literature has highlighted the importance of evaluating these techniques. Thus, in this study, six techniques of features selection were evaluated. Very-high-resolution LiDAR point clouds and orthophotos were acquired simultaneously in a rainforest area of Cameron Highlands, Malaysia by airborne laser scanning (LiDAR). A fuzzy-based segmentation parameter (FbSP optimizer) was used to optimize the segmentation parameters. Training samples were evaluated using a stratified random sampling method and set to 70% training samples. Two machine-learning algorithms, namely, Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Random Forest (RF), were used to evaluate the performance of each features selection algorithm. The overall accuracies of the SVM and RF models revealed that three of the six algorithms exhibited higher ranks in landslide detection. Results indicated that the classification accuracies of the RF classifier were higher than the SVM classifier using either all features or only the optimal features. The proposed techniques performed well in detecting the landslides in a rainforest area of Malaysia, and these techniques can be easily extended to similar regions.

Development of Interactive Feature Selection Algorithm(IFS) for Emotion Recognition

  • This paper presents an original feature selection method for Emotion Recognition which includes many original elements. Feature selection has some merits regarding pattern recognition performance. Thus, we developed a method called thee 'Interactive Feature Selection' and the results (selected features) of the IFS were applied to an emotion recognition system (ERS), which was also implemented in this research. The innovative feature selection method was based on a Reinforcement Learning Algorithm and since it required responses from human users, it was denoted an 'Interactive Feature Selection'. By performing an IFS, we were able to obtain three top features and apply them to the ERS. Comparing those results from a random selection and Sequential Forward Selection (SFS) and Genetic Algorithm Feature Selection (GAFS), we verified that the top three features were better than the randomly selected feature set.

Defect Severity-based Ensemble Model using FCM (FCM을 적용한 결함심각도 기반 앙상블 모델)

  • Software defect prediction is an important factor in efficient project management and success. The severity of the defect usually determines the degree to which the project is affected. However, existing studies focus only on the presence or absence of a defect and not the severity of defect. In this study, we proposed an ensemble model using FCM based on defect severity. The severity of the defect of NASA data set's PC4 was reclassified. To select the input column that affected the severity of the defect, we extracted the important defect factor of the data set using Random Forest (RF). We evaluated the performance of the model by changing the parameters in the 10-fold cross-validation. The evaluation results were as follows. First, defect severities were reclassified from 58, 40, 80 to 30, 20, 128. Second, BRANCH_COUNT was an important input column for the degree of severity in terms of accuracy and node impurities. Third, smaller tree number led to more variables for good performance.

  • This paper presents the strategy for searching a hidden object in an unknown area for using by multiple distributed autonomous robotic systems (DARS). To search the target in Markovian space, DARS should recognize th ε ir surrounding at where they are located and generate some rules to act upon by themselves. First of all, DARS obtain 6-distances from itself to environment by infrared sensor which are hexagonally allocated around itself. Second, it calculates 6-areas with those distances then take an action, i.e., turn and move toward where the widest space will be guaranteed. After the action is taken, the value of Q will be updated by relative formula at the state. We set up an experimental environment with five small mobile robots, obstacles, and a target object, and tried to research for a target object while navigating in a un known hallway where some obstacles were placed. In the end of this paper, we present the results of three algorithms - a random search, an area-based action making process to determine the next action of the robot and hexagon-based Q-learning to enhance the area-based action making process.
