In this paper, we introduce a new category of Self-Organizing Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (SOFPNN) that is based on a genetically optimized multi-layer perceptron with fuzzy polynomial neurons (FPNs) and discuss its comprehensive design methodology involving mechanisms of genetic optimization. The conventional SOFPNN algorithm leads to a tendency to produce overly complex networks as well as a repetitive computation load by the trial and error method and/or the a repetitive parameter adjustment by designer. In order to generate a structurally and parametrically optimized network, such parameters need to be optimal. In this study, in solving the problems with the conventional SOFPNN, we introduce a new design approach of evolutionary optimized SOFPNN. Optimal parameters design available within FPN (viz. the no. of input variables, the order of the polynomial, input variables, and the no. of membership function) lead to structurally and parametrically optimized network which is more flexible as well as simpler architecture than the conventional SOFPNN. In addition, we determine the initial apexes of membership functions by genetic algorithm.
Throughout this paper we will let H denote the complete Heyting algebra ($H, \vee, \wedge, *$) with order reversing involution *. 0 and 1 denote the supermum and the infimum of $\emptyset$, respectively. Given any set X, any element of $H^X$ is called H-fuzzy set (or, simply f.set) in X and will be denoted by small Greek letters, such as $\mu, \nu, \rho, \sigma$. $H^X$ inherits a structure of H with order reversing involution in natural way, by definding $\vee, \wedge, *$ pointwise (sam notations of H are usual). If $f$ is a map from a set X to a set Y and $\mu \in H^Y$, then $f^{-1}(\mu)$ is the f.set in X defined by f^{-1}(\mu)(x) = \mu(f(x))$. Also for $\sigma \in H^X, f(\sigma)$ is the f.set in Y defined by $f(\sigma)(y) = sup{\sigma(x) : f(x) = y}$ ([4]). A preorder R on a set X is reflexive and transitive relation on X, the pair (X,R) is called preordered set. A map $f$ from a preordered set (X, R) to another one (Y,T) is said to be preorder preserving (inverting) if for $x,y \in X, xRy$ implies $f(x)T f(y) (resp. f(y)Tf(x))$. For the terminology and notation, we refer to [10, 11, 13] for category theory and [7] for H-fuzzy semitopogenous spaces.
Clustering is one of widely used methods for grouping thousands of genes by their similarities of expression levels, so that it helps to analyze gene expression profiles. This method has been used for identifying the functions of genes. Fuzzy clustering method, which is one category of clustering, assigns one sample to multiple groups according to their degrees of membership. This method is more appropriate for analyzing gene expression profiles because single gene might involve multiple genetic functions. Clustering methods, however, have the problems that they are sensitive to initialization and can be trapped into local optima. To solve these problems, this paper proposes an evolutionary fuzzy clustering method, where adaptive a-cut based evaluation is used for the fitness evaluation to apply different criteria considering the characteristics of datasets to overcome the limitation of Bayesian validation method that applies the same criterion to all datasets. We have conducted experiments with SRBCT and yeast cell-cycle datasets and analyzed the results to confirm the usefulness of the proposed method.

This paper presents an image contrast enhancement technique for improving the low contrast images using the improved IAFC(Integrated Adaptive Fuzzy Clustering) model. The low pictorial information of a low contrast image is due to the vagueness or fuzziness of the multivalued levels of brightness rather than randomness. Fuzzy image processing has three main stages, namely, image fuzzification, modification of membership values, and image defuzzification. Using a new model of automatic crossover point selection, optimal crossover point is selected automatically. The problem of crossover point selection can be considered as the two-category classification problem. The improved IAFC model is used to classify the image into two classes. The proposed method is applied to several experimental images with 256 gray levels and the results are compared with those of the histogram equalization technique. We utilized the index of fuzziness as a measure of image quality. The results show that the proposed method is better than the histogram equalization technique.
This study assesses the national AI competitiveness of 38 OECD countries with focus on AI human capital, AI infrastructure, and AI innovation capacity. Utilizing the fuzzy-set ideal type analysis method, these countries were categorized into eight distinct types based on their national AI competitiveness levels, leading to the derivation of pertinent implications. The analysis identified a category termed "AI Leading Country" consisting of North American, Western European, and Nordic countries, along with several Asian nations including South Korea. Remarkably, the United States demonstrated dominant global national AI competitiveness, achieving the highest fuzzy scores across all three evaluative factors. South Korea was classified as an "AI Leading Country" primarily due to its superior AI infrastructure, but its performance in AI human capital and AI innovation capacity was found to be moderate relative to other analyzed nations; thus highlighting the necessity of sustained focus on the accumulation of AI human capital and bolstering of AI innovation capacity.
For content-based video indexing and retrieval, it is necessary to segment video data into video shots and then select key frames or representative frames for each shot. However, it is very difficult to select key frames automatically because the task of selecting meaningful frames is quite subjective. In this paper, we propose a new approach in selecting key frames based on visual contents such as region information and their temporal variations in the shot. First of all, we classify video shots into panning shots, zooming shots, tilting shots or no camera motion shots by detecting camera motion information in video shots. Then, in each category, we apply appropriate fuzzy rules to select key frames based on meaningful content in frame. Finally, we control the number of key frames in the selection process by adjusting the degree of detail in representing video shots.
Landslides are caused by complex interaction among a large number of interrelated factors such as topography, geology, forest and soils. In this study, a comparative study was carried out using fuzzy relationship method and artificial neural network to evaluate landslide susceptibility. For landslide susceptibility mapping, maps of the landslide occurrence locations, slope angle, aspect, curvature, lithology, soil drainage, soil depth, soil texture, forest type, forest age, forest diameter and forest density were constructed from the spatial data sets. In fuzzy relation analysis, the membership values for each category of thematic layers have been determined using the cosine amplitude method. Then the integration of different thematic layers to produce landslide susceptibility map was performed by Cartesian product operation. In artificial neural network analysis, the relative weight values for causative factors were determined by back propagation algorithm. Landslide susceptibility maps prepared by two approaches were validated by ROC(Receiver Operating Characteristic) curve and AUC(Area Under the Curve). Based on the validation results, both approaches show excellent performance to predict the landslide susceptibility but the performance of the artificial neural network was superior in this study area.

This paper proposes an effective approach for the part-machine grouping(PMG) based on the non-binary part-machine incidence matrix in which real manufacturing factors such as the operation sequences with multiple visits to the same machine and production volumes of parts are incorporated and each entry represents actual moves due to different operation sequences. The proposed approach adopts Fuzzy ART neural network to quickly create the Initial part families and their machine cells. A new performance measure to evaluate and compare the goodness of non-binary block diagonal solution is suggested. To enhance the poor solution due to category proliferation inherent to most artificial neural networks, a supplementary procedure reassigning parts and machines is added. To show effectiveness of the proposed approach to large-size PMG problems, a psuedo-replicated clustering procedure is designed. Experimental results with intermediate to large-size data sets show effectiveness of the proposed approach.
