Investigation of alkali activation of fly ash and blast furnace slag was carried out using waterglass and sodium hydroxide. XRD, FTIR, $^{29}Si$ and $^{27}Al$ NMR, TGA and SEM were used to observed the reaction products and microstructure of the fly ash/slag cement (FSC) pastes. The reaction products were amorphous or low-ordered calcium silicate hydrate and aluminosilicate gel produced from alkali activation of blast furnace slag and fly ash, respectively. On the basis of this investigation, waterglass solution with a modulus(Ms) of 1.0 and 1.2 is recommended for alkali activation of fly ash and blast furnace slag. Morphology of FSC pastes alkali-activated with Ms of 1.0 and 1.2 shows a more solid and continuous matrix due to restructuring of gel-like reaction products from alkali-activated fly ash and blast furnace slag together with another hydrolysis product(i.e., silica gel) from water glass.

Furnace is currently the most important doping process using POCl3 in solar cell. However furnace need an expensive equipment cost and it has to purge a poisonous gas. Moreover, furnace typically difficult appling for selective emitters. In this study, we developed a new atmospheric pressure plasma source, in this procedure, we research the atmospheric pressure plasma doping that dopant is phosphoric acid($H_3PO_4$). Metal tube injected Ar gas was inputted 5 kV of a low frequency(scores of kHz) induced inverter, so plasma discharged at metal tube. We used the P type silicon wafer of solar cell. We regulated phosphoric acid($H_3PO_4$) concentration on 10% and plasma treatment time is 90 s, 150 s, we experiment that plasma current is 70 mA. We check the doping depth that 287 nm at 90 s and 621 nm at 150 s. We analysis and measurement the doping profile by using SIMS(Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy). We calculate and grasp the sheet resistance using conventional sheet resistance formula, so there are 240 Ohm/sq at 90 s and 212 Ohm/sq at 150 s. We analysis oxygen and nitrogen profile of concentration compared with furnace to check the doped defect of atmosphere.
Slag was collected from the iron-producing furnace site in Saengsoegol, Baegun mountain, where iron was manufactured by a righteous army against Japan in the Gwangyang region; then, the iron-manufacturing technique of the early modern period was investigated through scientific analysis. In the microstructure analysis results of the selected samples, iron bloom was mainly observed together with magnetite and fayalite. In the component analysis results of the compounds, it was confirmed that the furnace was built by using gangue of alkali feldspar or plagioclase series, and the ironmaking work was performed at a high temperature of at least 1050℃, because mullite was identified together with cristobalite and hercynite. Based on the chemical composition, it was speculated that low-grade iron ores were used as raw materials, and it seemed that the yield was low, because the total Fe content of the smelting slag samples was 37.72-49.93%. It was difficult to confirm whether a slag former was used, and it seemed that materials easily obtained nearby were used when the furnace was built, without considering the corrosion resistance. It appeared that the ironmaking work was performed at the Gwangyang Saengsoegol iron-producing furnace based on the direct ironmaking method in an environment that could escape the vigilance of the Japanese Empire to produce weapons that would be used for the resistance against Japan. It seemed that there was neither an advanced ironware production system nor a mass production system, and small-scale works were performed in short periods of time.

In this study, modified catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) method was applied to control the CNTs (carbon nanotubes) growth. Since titanium (Ti) substrate and iron (Fe) catalysts react one another and form a new phase ($Fe_2TiO_5$) above $700^{\circ}C$, the decrease of CNT yield above $800^{\circ}C$ where methane gas decomposes is inevitable under common CCVD method. Therefore, we synthesized CNTs on the Ti substrate by dividing the tube furnace into two sections (left and right) and heating them to different temperatures each. The reactant gas flew through from the end of the right tube furnace while the Ti substrate was placed in the center of the left tube furnace. When the CNT growth temperature was set $700/950^{\circ}C$ (left/right), CNTs with high yield were observed. Also, by examining the micro-structure of CNTs of $700/950^{\circ}C$, it was confirmed that CNTs show the bamboo-like structure.
EAFD (Electric Arc Furnace Dust) is considered as pernicious pollutant, assigned hazardous waste. Since this dust is a by-product of industry, it contains valuable metals such as Fe, Zn, Ni, Cu which can be turned into resources by recycling process. In this study, hydrometallurgical process was applied to recover Zn from Electric Arc Furnace Dusts. The result showed 95% Zn recovery at 3M $H_2SO_4$, Solids/Liquid ratio 1:2 and aeration of 1.8L/min for 2hr. However there was 80% Zn recovery at lower $H_2SO_4$ concentration apply for pilot scale plant.

A preliminary study for energy efficient soil heating and contaminant removal using microwave was conducted. Soils sampled from floodplain were heated with microwave oven, and soil heating property and energy efficiency were compared to those heated with electrical furnace. In addition the effects of water, soil organic matter, and contaminated diesel on soil heating with microwave were investigated. Even though the electrical power consumption of electrical furnace and microwave oven were similar, temperature of soil heated with microwave oven was significantly higher than that of soil heated with electrical furnace. The increase of soil moisture content delays the raise of soil temperature during heating it with microwave oven. However, the effects of total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) (<10%) in contaminated soil matrix and small amount of soil organic matter (<5%) on the increase of soil temperature by microwave were not significant. Further studies for contaminated soils with different texture using pilot scale microwave reactor are required for application of this technique in the field.

Permeable reactive barrier has been recognized as the one of representative methods for remediation of contaminated groundwater. Reactive barrier system containing two and more reactive materials can remove multiple contaminants such as nutritive salts and heavy metals. In this study, removal efficiency of multiple contaminants was evaluated when both zeolite and basic oxygen furnace slag were used as reactive materials. Sequential batch test which consists of two materials was performed to evaluate removal efficiency comparing the reaction order of them against nutritive slats including ammonium and phosphate and heavy metal including cadmium. As a result, zeolite-basic oxygen furnace slag sequence batch test showed the best efficiency for removal of multiple contaminants including nutritive salts and heavy metal.

In this work, the performance of various promoters was investigated used in $CO_2$ separation from the gases emitted from steel-making process using gas hydrate technology. The studied promoters are tetrahydrofuran (THF), propylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, which are all expected to form a structure II hydrate, and the target gases include $CO_2/N_2$ mixed gases ($CO_2/N_2$ = 20/80 and 40/60) and Blast Furnace Gas (BFG). The phase equilibrium points were measured when each promoter was added with various concentrations. For fast acquisition of abundant data, the "continuous" Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) method was employed. In addition, the crystal structure of each gas hydrate was analyzed by Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD).
A glass-ceramics based on blast-furnace slag, with some additives to the theoretical composition in order to control properties of mother glass and the heat treatment conditions, has been investigated. The raw materials in this study were blast-furnace slag, serpentine, feldspar and quartz as mother glass ingredients. Titanium dioxide and chromite were used as the nucleating agents. Batch compositions of the prepared glasses and ceraming conditions were found by trial and error method. The optimum conditions were confirmed by analyzing several measured physical properties such as density change during heat treatment, microhardness of slag-ceramics prepared, viscosity change of glass at heat treatment temperatures, nucleation density change, dilatometric properties, differential thermal analysis, identification of the grown crystal and crystal sizes. The batch composition feasible to prepare slag-ceramics was 40% of blast-furnace slag, 25% of serpentine, 18% of feldspar and 17% of silica sand. Three percent titanium dioxide and 1% chromite of the mother glass were added as nucleating agents. The ceraming conditions under which the slag-ceramics having considerably good properties can be developed found as: "The glass was heated at 75$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours for nucleation, and the temperature was raised up to 1, 00$0^{\circ}C$ with a rate of 0.75$^{\circ}C$/min for crystal growth.owth.
The development of reinforced-roadbed material in substitute for existing roadbed is necessary to protect its failure from the dynamic stress and vibration caused by the traveling of the high-speed and heavy trains. The water quenched blast furnace slag having potential hydraulic reactivity is one of the materials in substitute for soil reinforced-roadbed. We carried out the study of basic properties of roadbed material using Portland cement and CSA(calcium sulphoaluminate) as the activator for the evaluation of its application. As the result of the strength test, this material satisfied design criterion for reinforced-roadbed. Optimum mixing ratio of this reinforced-roadbed material was 15 ~ 17.5 percent of cement and 2.5 percent of CSA by weight of the blast furnace slag. Especially, as permeability is above $10^{-3}$cm/sec, this material proved to have functions of both reinforced roadbed and drainage layer.
