  • This study is about the compensation of early age strength on mortar and concrete admixed with blast-furnace slag powder. For study, we have used fine powder of gypsum and kiln dust from cement factory. According to the test results, we have obtained proper mixing ratio of slag powder, gypsum and kiln dust for the compensation of early age strength on mortar and concrete property.

  • For many years, alkali activated blast furnace slag cement containing no ordinary portland cement has received much attention in the view of energy saving and its many excellent properties. We examined the structural change of slag glass which was activated by alkali metal compounds using IR spectroscopy. The properties of hydrated products and unhydrated slag grains was characterized by XRD and micro-conduction calorimeter. Ion concentration change in the liquid during the hydration of blast furnace slag was also studied to investigated the hydration mechanism.

  • The propose of this study is to examine the mechanical properties of mortar using ground granulated blast-furnace(GGBF) slag. In this study, the mortar replaced by varying fineness and content of GGBF slag is investigated through the change of compressive strength, chemical resistance and weight loss. As the result, it has been found that GGBF slag increase somewhat higher flow value and compressive strength. In addition, the chemical resistance of motar using GGBF slag shows higher flow that of motar not containing GGBF slag.

  • This experimental study was carried out to estmate the effects of mixing dosage rate and blain on the compressive strength properties of antiwashout underwater concrete admixed with finely ground granulated blast furnace slag. The experimental parameters are slag contents(0, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60%). As a result the compressive strength have a high correlation with slag blended ratio. Thus, it is possible to calculate the modulus of modified age using compressive strength of antiwashout underwater concrete blended with slag.

  • In this study, we investigate the difference between natural aggregate and electric arc furnace (EAF) slag one in order to use EAF slag aggregate as coarse aggregate in concrete. We find the physical and chemical properties of EAF slag aggregate according to the different aging processes. We consider the properties of the concrete made with EAF slag aggregate on these bases.

  • Refractory industry in technologically advanced countries has long been on gradual decline due to leveled-off steel production and decreasing unit consumption of refractories for steel. Notable technological achievements by refractory industry that contributed significantly to steel production are briefly reviewed covering from blast furnace, basic oxygen furnace to continuous casting. Future possibility to revitalize the refractory industry is discussed on the basis of the review, taking into account opportunities available in environment and energy related sector of industries.

  • An experimental study is carried out to estimate the way of applying the granulated blast furnace slag[GBFS] to the lean concrete subbase of concrete pavement. According to the test results, this application seems promising. For this application, mixing percent of GBFS ranging from 30 to 45 is recommendable at this stage. Expected benefits using GGBFS in the field of concrete pavement include reduced shrinkage crack, reduced pavement thickness, and extended service life.
