The objective of this study was to investigate the fundamental characteristics of proteins effecting on Korean wheat flour quality. Mixing properties and protein contents of Eunpa, Allgreu, and Woori showed soft wheat characteristics. Tapdong had strong dough stability and high protein content like hard wheat flour. However, even though Greu had a high protein content, the dough strength was very weak like soft wheat flour. No major difference was observed in protein solubility with water, 0.1N NaCl, 70% ethyl alcohol, 0.1 N acetic acid solution and in sulfur and disulfide contents between Korean wheat flours and imported flours. However, DNS (Dark Norther Spring) had more contents of acid insoluble and SDS insoluble proteins compared with Korean wheat varieties. PAGE pattern of Tapdong was very similar to imported wheat flours at the high molecular weight regions and characteristic high molecular weight glutenin subunits were observed over 116 kD protein molecular weight region from 4 Korean wheat flours such as Eunpa, Woori, Allgreu, and Greu.
Cement concrete pavement has become more common in Korean highway systems. However, as its service period increases, there are some technical problems occurs and no clear solution is available primarily due to the lack of active researches. This research, hence, aims to develop a new mix proportion that may provide better strength and durability with extended service life. Based on a variety of literature reviews, the experimental variables were determined as unit cement content, S/a ratio and W/C ratio. From the experimental works, it is recommended to increase the unit cement content up to 375kg/$m^3$, 400kg/$m^3$ and 425kg/$m^3$. The target slump and air content were set 40mm and 5%, respectively. The maximum size of coarse aggregate was decided to be 25mm because of the easiness of supply in the field. The reduction of W/C ratio was necessarily required and decreased to 0.4 which was proven not to cause any mixing problem with the increased unit cement contents along with polycarbon-based high range water reducing agent. In addition, it was known that the S/a ratio could be reduced to 0.34. The lowered S/a might be possible because of the increased cement paste and hence increased cohesiveness and workability.

Purpose: In-situ monitoring of water quality is fundamental to most environmental applications. The high cost and long delays of conventional laboratory methods used to determine water quality, including on-site sampling and chemical analysis, have limited their use in efficiently managing water sources while preventing environmental pollution. The objective of this study was to develop an on-site water monitoring system consisting mainly of an Arduino board and a sensor array of multiple ion selective electrodes (ISEs) to measure the concentration of $NO_3$ ions. Methods: The developed system includes a combination of three ISEs, double-junction reference electrode, solution container, sampling system consisting of three pumps and solenoid valves, signal processing circuit, and an Arduino board for data acquisition and system control. Prior to each sample measurement, a two-point normalization method was applied for a sensitivity adjustment followed by an offset adjustment to minimize the potential drift that could occur during continuous measurement and standardize the response of multiple electrodes. To investigate its utility in on-site nitrate monitoring, the prototype was tested in a facility where drinking water was collected from a water supply source. Results: Differences in the electric potentials of the $NO_3$ ISEs between 10 and $100mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$$NO_3$ concentration levels were nearly constant with negative sensitivities of 58 to 62 mV during the period of sample measurement, which is representative of a stable electrode response. The $NO_3$ concentrations determined by the ISEs were almost comparable to those obtained with standard instruments within 15% relative errors. Conclusions: The use of the developed on-site nitrate monitoring system based on automatic sampling and two-point normalization was feasible for detecting abrupt changes in nitrate concentration at various water supply sites, showing a maximum difference of $4.2mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ from an actual concentration of $14mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$.
In order to verify the usability of the greenhouse for aquaculture with nutrient culture synchronously and to obtain the fundamental data fir the establishment of efficient farming technology, the characteristics of microclimate and the growth of leafy vegetables were examined. Tilapia averaged 428.6 g grew to 784 g(1.83 times) for 147 days from May 29 to Oct. 21 and fingerlings averaged 12.9 g grew by 1.37 times for 61 days from Sep. 13 to Nov. 12. The growth of vegetables such as water dropwort, leaf lettuce, Chinese cabbage, and Welsh onion in the greenhouse was better for aquaculture with nutrient culture than for nutrient culture only. Between above two greenhouses, pH and EC of nutrient solution was same but the temperature different by about 2$^{\circ}C$. Average day temperature, relative humidity, and $CO_2$ concentration were higher by 2.9$^{\circ}C$, 6%, and 200 ppm in the greenhouse for aquaculture with nutrient culture, respectively. Net assimilation rate of vegetables in the greenhouse was a little higher for aquaculture with nutrient culture than for nutrient culture only. Therefore, provided aquaculture and nutrient culture are carried out in the same greenhouse, the saving effect of heating cost as well as the additional promotive effects of vegetable and tilapia growth can be obtained.

The primary purposes of this study are to understand a fundamental aspect of current uniformity around a reinforcing bar (rebar) in cement mortar, and to develop an accurate monitoring method in a wet-dry cycling process with the alternative current (AC) impedance method. Three cement mortar specimens with two embedded rebars were prepared in the laboratory. As a main variable, the distance between two rebars was designed to be 10, 20 and 30 mm with the same thickness of 20 mm. To simulate the corrosion of rebars in concrete structures in a marine environment, three cement mortar specimens were exposed to 15 wet-drying cycles (24-hour-immersion in seawater and 48-hour-drying in a room temperature) in the laboratory. It was observed that the potential level shifted to a noble value during corrosion potential monitoring, which is attributed to acceleration of dissolved oxygen diffusion at the drying process. AC impedance was measured in a frequency range from 100 kHz to 1 mHz on a wet-drying process. A theoretical model was proposed to explain the interface condition between the rebars and cement mortar by using the equivalent circuit consisting of a solution resistance, a charge transfer resistance and a CPE (constant phase element). It was observed that the diffusion impedance appeared in a low frequency range as corrosion of rebars progresses. At the drying stage of the wet-drying cycles, the currents line for monitoring tended to be non-uniform at the interface of rebar/mortar, being phase shift, ${\theta}$, close to $-45^{\circ}$.
The purposes of this study are to review research trends of applied geography field, to retrospect geographical works done by Korean geographers in applied geography, and to prospect the future of applied geography. We are in the period where societal problems such as energy, transportation, pollution, environment, health care, and many others, require careful consideration and need throughout strategies for solution. Most societal problems have some geographical dimensions. Because these problems are geographic in nature, there is an obvious implication that geography as a discipline has something to offer in their solutions. In fact, most geographic problems are best presented and analyzed through the applications of geographic theories, concepts and tools. Applied geography is a branch of general geography. It relies on the scientific methods and uses the principles and methods of pure geography. However applied geography is different in that it analyzes and evaluates real world action and planning and seeks to implement and manipulate environmental and spatial realities. Thus, geographic theories and other social theories that have geographic dimensions are fundamental to applied geography. Applied geography has a short history as theme in Korean geography. During the last two decades. Korea achieved remarkable economic growth. We have also encountered widening regional disparity, housing shortage of larger cities, transportation congestion, environmental pollution and many other problems. Applied geographers have tried to analyze and solve such spatial problems during the last 30 years. The research trend of Korean applied geography can be subdivided into 5 categories: (1) land use analysis and efficient utilization, (2) national physical development and planning. (3) regional development and regional planning, (4) tourism and location-allocation, transportation planning. Still the overconcentration of Seoul metropolitan region and unbalanced regional development are perceived to be the serious spatial problems which may induce more works to solve these problems. In Korea new emphasis has to be given to some professional training and experimental learning, including methodology, field techniques data management, statistical analysis, cartography, GIS, and other tools, as applicable and beneficial to problem solving in real world. The growth of applied geography depends on new insights and purposed solutions of future applied geographers in Korea. Applied geographers will contribute to the creation of future Korean geographies.
The objective of this work was to investigate the performance of pervaporation process for recovery of ester compounds from model aqueous solutions and how the fluxes of esters and water were affected by changes in feed concentration and temperature. The flux of ethyl acetate (EA), propyl acetate (PA), ethyl propionate (EP), butyl acetate (BA), and ethyl butyrate (EB) increased with an increase in feed concentration from 0.15 wt% to 0.60 wt%, and increased with temperature change from $30^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$. The flux of esters (EA, PA, EP, BA, and EB) was in order of (EA) < (PA, EP) < (BA, EB). This result meant that the flux strongly depended on affinity between esters and membrane surface; EA is the least hydrophobic because it has one hydrophobic function group ($-CH_2-$), (PA, EP) have two ($-CH_2-$), and (BA, EB) are the most hydrophobic because these have three ($-CH_2-$). As well as such an influence of hydrophobicity of ester molecules on ester flux, the influence of hydrophobicity of membrane surface on ester flux needs further investigation. With increase in temperature, water flux of aqueous EA, PA, EP, BA, and EB solution increased. However, water flux of aqueous ester solutions did not change appreciably with increase in concentration. This experimental results may be used as fundamental data for pervaporation (PV) to improve the aroma recovery process as an alternative to thermal evaporation and distillation processes.

Currently it is being gradually focused on the mobile application's processing performance implemented by Javascript and HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) due to the dissemination of mobile web application supply based on the WAC (Wholesale Application Community). If the application software has a simple functional processing structure, then the problem is benign, however, the load of a browser is getting heavier as the amount of Javascript processing is being increased. There is a limitation on the processing time and capacity of the Javascript in the ordinary mobile browsers which are on the market now. In order to solve those problems, the Web Worker that is not supported from the existing Javascript technology is now provided by the HTML 5 to implement the multi thread. The Web Worker provides a mechanism that process a part from the single thread through a separate one. However, it can not guarantee the computing ability as a native application on the mobile and is not enough as a solution for improving the fundamental processing speed. The Cyclostorm overcomes the limitation of resources as a mobile client and guarantees the performance as a native application by providing high computing service and ascripting the Javascript process on the mobile to the computer server on the cloud. From the performance evaluation experiment, the Cyclostorm shows a maximally 6 times faster computing speed than in the existing mobile browser's Javascript and 3 to 6 times faster than in Web Worker of the HTML 5. In addition, the usage of memory is measured less than the existing method since the server's memory has been used. In this paper, the Cyclostorm is introduced as one of the mobile cloud computing services to conquer the limitation of the WAC based mobile browsers and to improve the existing web application's performances.

The aim of this research is providing the fundamental data for treating and recycling the byproducts by using the wet processed bottom ash as a fine aggregate replacement for cement-based extruded panel. Although the cement-based extruded panel was used mainly as a cladding component with its high strength and outstanding durability, it was hardly spread because of low economic feasibility due to the high cost of additives or fibers which were used to achieve 14 MPa of flexural strength as a cladding material. As a solution of this drawback, by the previous research, it was possible to replace cement by fly ash up to 80 % by decreasing quality criteria with restricting the application to indoor purpose. In this research, based on the previous research, by using the bottom ash as a replacement of fly ash, improvement of shape retention performance is tried. As a result of the experiment on evaluating the optimum content and PSD of bottom ash, as the fineness modulus and content of bottom ash was increased, the extruding performance was decreased and penetration resistance was increased. Additionally, the optimum content and the maximum particle size was found as 20 %, and 0.3 mm, respectively.

For expressing intention the human often use body languages as well as vocal languages. Of course the gestures using arms and hands are the representative ones among the body languages. Therefore it is very important to understand the human arm motion in human-computer interaction. In this respect we present here how to estimate 3D pose of human arms by using computer vision systems. For this we first focus on the idea that the human arm motion consists of mostly revolute joint motions, and then we present an algorithm for understanding 3D motion of a revolute joint using vision systems. Next we apply it to estimating 3D pose of human arms using vision systems. The fundamental idea for this algorithm extension is that we may apply the algorithm for a revolute joint to each of the revolute joints of hmm arms one after another. In designing the algorithms we focus on seeking closed-form solutions with high accuracy because we aim at applying them to human computer interaction for ubiquitous computing and virtual reality.
