  • A major research objective related to proton exchange membrane(PEM) for DMFC is to achieve high proton conductivity over 10$^{-2}$ S/cm, high hydrolytic stability and low methanol permeability with low cost base materials. for the purpose, a lot of thermoplastic polymers such as polysulfones, polyethersulfone, polyetherketones, polyimides, polyoxadiazole, polyphosphazene and polybenzimidazol have been investigated. Amongst those polymers, polyimides have been suggested as a potential PEM due to their excellent thermal, chemical stability and good mechanical properties. Generally, polyimides are synthesized by polycondensation with numerious diamines and dianhydriedes. In our study, polyimide was prepared using non-sulfonated diamine, sulfonated diamine directly synthesized by fuming sulfuric acid, and naphthalenic dianhydride to improve the hydrolysis stability under acidic condition. Through monomer sulfonation-subsequent polymerization method, the high proton conducting capability and the desired sulfonation level were effectively controlled at the same time. To reduce severe methanol transport through the membrane, the chemical crosslinking among polymer chains was introduced using various crosslinking agents with different chain lengths. The crosslinked sulfonated polyimide membranes showed high proton conductivity up to 8.09$\times$10$^{-2}$ S/cm and from crosslinking effect methanol transport through the membranes was considerably reduced as compared with unmodified membranes. For increase of chain length of crosslinker, methanol permeability was adversely reduced to 10$^{-8}$ $\textrm{cm}^2$/s due to decrease of IEC and increase of crosslinking desity.

  • A residual gas analyzer was used to study the outgassing behavior of stainless steel 304 chamber as a function of bake-out temperature up to $235 ^{\circ}C$ and to identify the gas species evolved during turn on and degassing of the three different types of hot cathode ionization gauges. It was found that $H_2O$, CO, and $H_2O$ were the dominent outgassing species in the vacuum chamber during bake-out but finally $H_2$ and CO(mass 28) persisted at room temperature. Dominant outgassing species were also $H_2$ and $H_2O$ while fuming on the ionizations and then $H_2$,$H_2O$ and CO were found to be the main species degassed gauges. It was appeared that the outgassing species and quantity were not agreed to the three different types of hot cathode ionization gauges.

  • $SdhB^{P225F}$ and $SdhB^{H272R}$ mutations have been found associated with boscalid resistance in Botrytis cinerea from strawberry in Shanghai, China. For rapid detection of two mutations, tetra-primers were designed and optimized to gain the relatively high accuracy and specificity based on the ARMS-PCR technique, by which resistance can be identified with different lengths of products on agarose gels. The tetra-primer ARMS-PCR systems for $SdhB^{P225F}$ and $SdhB^{H272R}$ were validated by 9 SdhB-squenced strains repeatedly. Then, sensitivity of 30 more strains were also tested by the methods, which were accordant with genotypes by sequencing and the sensitivity of conidial germination to boscalid by 100%. Thus, the methods developed in this study are proved to be rapid, inexpensive, accurate and practical for resistance detection of Botrytis cinerea caused by $SdhB^{P225F}$ and $SdhB^{H272R}$ mutations.

  • Numerous studies have revealed the importance of tumor-derived exosomes in rectal cancer (RC). This study aims to explore the influence of tumor-derived exosomal integrin beta-1 (ITGB1) on lung fibroblasts in RC along with underlying mechanisms. Exosome morphology was observed using a transmission electron microscope. Protein levels of CD63, CD9, ITGB1, p-p65 and p65 were detected using Western blot. To determine ITGB1's mRNA expression, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used. Moreover, levels of interleukin (IL)-8, IL-1β, and IL-6 in cell culture supernatant were measured via commercial ELISA kits. ITGB1 expression was increased in exosomes from RC cells. The ratio of p-p65/p65 as well as levels of interleukins in lung fibroblasts was raised by exosomes derived from RC cells, while was reduced after down-regulation of exosomal ITGB1. The increased ratio of p-p65/p65 as well as levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines caused by exosomes from RC cells was reversed by the addition of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) inhibitor. We concluded that the knockdown of RC cells-derived exosomal ITGB1 repressed activation of lung fibroblasts and the NF-κB pathway in vitro.

  • Previous artificial latent fingerprint solution has shown unsatisfactory results. Therefore, in this study, we developed an artificial latent fingerprint solution close to the actual fingerprint composition by improving the lipid composition. We mixed lipid solution with amino acid solution at v/v ratios as follows: 2:3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:8, 1:10, 1:20. We then dropped the same amount of each proportion of artificial latent fingerprint solution on porous paper and non-porous slide glass. Subsequently, each sample was treated with Oil red O, Cyanoacrylate fuming and Basic yellow 40 staining. As the concentration of lipids decreased, the output also decreased. Both types of surfaces and all concentrations were visually confirmed very well. In addition, the reactivity to lipids was significantly higher compared to the previous artificial latent fingerprint solution. Furthermore, for the quantitative evaluation, it is necessary to conduct additional research on the printing of the artificial latent fingerprint solution.

  • In crime scene investigation, fingerprint identification is regarded to be one of the most important techniques for personal identification. However, objective and unbiased evaluation methods that would compare the fingerprints with diverse available and developing methods are currently lacking. To develop an objective and quantitative method to improve fingerprint evaluation, a preliminary study was performed to extract useful research information from the analysis with densitometric image analysis (CP Atlas 2.0) and the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) for the developed fingerprints on porous surfaces. First, inked fingerprints obtained by varying pressure (kg.f) and pressing time (sec.) to find optimal conditions for obtaining fingerprint samples were analyzed, because they could provide fingerprints of a relatively uniform quality. The extracted number of minutiae from the analysis with AFIS was compared with the calculated areas of friction ridge peaks from the image analysis. Inked fingerprints with a pressing pressure of 1.0 kg.f for 5 seconds provided the most visually clear fingerprints, the highest number of minutiae points, and the largest average area of the peaks of the friction ridge. In addition, the images of the developed latent fingerprints on thermal paper with the iodine fuming method were analyzed. Fingerprinting condition of 1.0 kg.f/5 sec was also found to be optimal when generating highest minutiae number and the largest average area of peaks of ridges. Additionally, when the concentration of ninhydrin solution (0.5 % vs. 5 %) was used to compare the developed latent fingerprints on print paper, the best fingerprinting condition was 2.0 kg.f/5 sec and 5 % of ninhydrin concentration. It was confirmed that the larger the average area of the peaks generated by the image analysis, the higher the number of minutiae points was found. With additional tests for fingerprint evaluation using the densitometric image analysis, this method can prove to be a new quantitative and objective assessment method for fingerprint development.

  • It is very important to minimize the damage of latent fingerprints at enhancing the contrast. This study proves the enhancement effects of cyanoacrylate-fumed latent fingerprints using p-dimethylaminobenzealdehyde (DMAB) on semi-porous surfaces and the influence factors. The latent fingerprints in experiment were developed for cyanoacrylate treatment in a vacuum chamber and used after drying at room temperature for 24 hours. For fluorescence staining, the cyanoacrylate-developed marks using DMAB were sublimated during 48 hours under the different conditions of surface area, temperature, atmospheric pressure. First experiment showed how surface area effects on the sublimation rate and fluorescence intensity by DMAB of particle size and container size. In addition, the fluorescence staining using DMAB with solvent-free contact method had the greatest fluorescence intensity after 36 hours and a low fluorescence intensity over a certain size of surface area. Second experiment showed that the evaporation of DMAB solid crystals got a satisfying result in a temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and reduced time to get the greatest fluorescence intensity. It took a long time to get a optimum level of fluorescence intensity at $30^{\circ}C$ or more and it was less effective in fluorescence intensity. Third experiment on the pressure indicated that the fluorescence intensity of vacuum was weaker than nonvacuum but it was inapplicable to very high variations in pressure.

  • To examine the structure and distribution of the Keum River plume produced by continuous river discharge we carried out three-dimensional numerical model experiments with or without Coriolis force and tide. When Coriolis force is included but tide is not the model plume forms the clockwise circulation north of southern channel in the developing stage. As the plume expansion progresses the center of circulation moves to the southwest, with fuming the discharging axis of low-salinity water to the southwest from the mouth of southern channel. These results are explained mainly in terms of barotropic geostrophy by surface slope maintained with accumulated low-salinity(buoyant) water in front of the estuary mouth due to of offshore strong salinity front. When the M$_2$ tide is included the model plume extends farther to the northwest, forming large tongue-like salinity distribution. The tidally averaged surface flows of the offshore plume are mainly in geostrophic balance. These changes in plume distribution are explained in terms of low-salinity water advection by tidal excursion and active tidal mixing; the former supplies low salinity water to the north off the estuary mouth and the later increases mean sea level along the plume and surface salinity in northern shallow coastal area. The main features of observed Keum River plume(Lee et al., 1999; Choi et al., 1999), which showed the northwestward deflection of the plume axis and northward deepening of the plume thickness from the estuary mouth region, are well reproduced by the model in which tide is included.

  • The foreign superior players and national team players' turning phase was measured, compared and analyzed to help the representative players improve the skill of turn. The underwater video camera used to analyze and evaluate the representative players' skill of turn in detail and the result is as follows. 1. The record for the phase of turn was similar to the rank of the last record. The improvement of the skill of turn was required because Korean players' record was lower than the foreign players' one. In case of 200m events the 1st turn was the fastest and it took more time as the turn is repeated. 2. It shows that the preparation phase and turing motion cause the difference between the players and within one player. 3. The horizontal movement of center of gravity moves to turning point slowly in the preparation phase, does not move nearly in the turning phase and increase again in the propulsion phase. Good record has short time for turn phase. The result means that the shorten the turning phase is the most important factor. Therefore the preparation for this is required. The vertical movement is maintained or increase a little and then move to from the turning phase. 4. The characteristic of horizontal velocity in center of gravity is that there is any big changes at the preparation phase, the faster velocity is found from the better record and the accelerating time is fast at the propulsion phasen. The wrong motion is made by not using the swimming velocity for fuming and waiting and more time is required by this. 5. The angle of knee when the player touch the turning point is 106.22-135.56 and the maximum angle of knee during the driving after the touch of tuning point is full extension. The size of maximum angle of knee did not match with the required time of propulsion phase. It seems that the individual difference is big when the players touch the turning point the angle of knee and the research for the individual angle which can reveal the maximum power should be carried out. The national team player's skill for the him is behind the foreign players' one and a lot of problems were found. It shows that the players could not practice the skill for turn during the training. The 1st reason for it is the various facilities like underwater window or analyzing equipment like underwater camera with which the coaches can teach and correct the players' detailed skill. It is need to evaluate the players' detailed skill exactly and correct it by objective data to complete the good skill in the future. In this regard, the investment for the facility is necessary.
