  • Construction automation can be an effective alternative for the lack of skilled labor and loss of productivity. With such a background, Korean government has provided a lot of financial supports for the development of construction automation technology. However, despite of those efforts, automation systems at construction sites have rarely been employed. This is because the systems have not been developed with full consideration of the needs and environments on construction sites. Thus, the purpose of this study is to identify the critical success factors for efficient development of construction automation systems. This study compares and analyzes key factors for automated construction system(ACS) and construction information system(CIS). As a result, 'stability and reliability' in the ACS showed the highest importance while 'manageability' in the CIS was. Consequently, for the successful introduction of the ACS, technical capability and stability should be firstly considered to cope with dynamic construction environment, while the CIS should be built to enable efficient management and use of information. The result of this study can serve as an evaluation base for the current construction automation technologies and an index for more efficient technology development in the future as well.

  • Availability is one of the important factor for developing weapon system, because it indicates the mission capability and sustainable life cycle management of weapon system. Recently, as weapon system becomes more advanced and more complex, availability estimation becomes more important to reduce the life cycle cost of weapon system. Modeling and simulation(M&S) is useful method to describe the availability of complex weapon system applying operational environment and maintenance plan. Especially agent based model(ABM) has the strength to describe interactions between agents and environments in complex system. Therefore, this paper presents the availability estimation of weapon system using agent based model. The sample data of part list and reliability analysis is applied to build availability estimation model. User agent and mechanic agent are developed to illustrate the behavior of operation and maintenance using formal specification. Storage reliability is applied to describe failure of each parts. The experimental result shows that this model is quite useful to estimate availability of weapon system. This model may estimate more reasonable availability, if full scale data of weapon system and real field data of operation is provided.

  • Objectives: No studies have examined the association between preterm birth rates and socioeconomic factors in Japan using nationwide statistical data. We analyzed the association between preterm birth rates and household occupation using Vital Statistics data. Methods: Aggregated Vital Statistics data from Japan from 2007 to 2019 were obtained from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. From the data, the number of births according to year, age group, gestational period, number of pregnancies, and household occupation were used in this study. Crude preterm birth rates and preterm birth rates adjusted by maternal age according to household occupation were calculated for each year. Poisson regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the association between household occupation and preterm births. Results: Unemployed households had the highest preterm birth rate, and households with an occupation classification of "full-time worker 2" (an employee at a large company, civil servant, or board member) had the lowest preterm birth rate throughout each period. Poisson regression analysis revealed that unemployed households were statistically significantly associated with a high preterm birth risk. In contrast, the preterm birth rate adjusted by maternal age remained stable throughout each period regardless of household occupation, and preterm birth rates were found not to have increased in recent years in Japan. Conclusions: Unemployed households had higher preterm birth rates than other household occupations. Further studies investigating the characteristics of unemployed households are needed to identify the reasons for this disparity.

  • Construction machinery is exposed to accidents such as collisions, narrowness, and overturns during operation. In particular, mobile crane is operated only with the driver's vision and limited information of the assistant worker. Thus, there is a high risk of an accident. Recently, some collision avoidance device using sensors such as cameras and LiDAR have been applied. However, they are still insufficient to prevent collisions in the omnidirectional 3D space. In this study, a rotating LiDAR device was developed and applied to a 250-ton crane to obtain a full-space point cloud. An algorithm that could provide distance information and safety status to the driver was developed. Also, deep-learning segmentation algorithm was used to classify human-worker. The developed device could recognize obstacles within 100m of a 360-degree range. In the experiment, a safety distance was calculated with an error of 10.3cm at 30m to give the operator an accurate distance and collision alarm.

  • In this paper, we propose a fault tolerant embedded system using memory redundancy on the full-virtualization based virtual machine monitor. The proposed virtual machine monitor first virtualizes main memory of embedded system utilizing efficient shadow page table scheme so that the embedded system runs as a virtual machine on the virtual machine monitor. The virtual machine monitor makes the backup of the embedded system run as another virtual machine by copying memory contents of the embedded system into memory space of backup system according to predefined schedules. When an error occurs in the target virtual machine, the corresponding standby virtual machine takes the role of target virtual machine and continues its operation. Performance evaluation studies show that such backups and switches of virtual machines are performed with minor performance degradation.

  • As a part of probabilistic risk (or safety) assessment (PRA or PSA) of nuclear power plants (NPPs), the primary role of human reliability analysis (HRA) is to provide credible estimations of the human error probabilities (HEPs) of safety-critical tasks. Accordingly, HRA community has emphasized the accumulation of HRA data to support HRA practitioners for many decades. To this end, it is critical to resolve practical problems including (but not limited to): (1) how to collect HRA data from available information sources, and (2) how to inform HRA practitioners with the collected HRA data. In this regard, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) independently initiated two large projects to accumulate HRA data by using full-scale simulators (i.e., simulator data). In terms of resolving the first practical problem, the NRC and KAERI developed two dedicated HRA data collection systems, SACADA (Scenario Authoring, Characterization, And Debriefing Application) and HuREX (Human Reliability data EXtraction), respectively. In addition, to inform HRA practitioners, the NRC and KAERI proposed several ideas to extract useful information from simulator data. This paper is the first of two papers to discuss the technical underpinnings of the development of the SACADA and HuREX systems.

  • This paper presents analysis of passive metal interconnection of the LNA block in CMOS integrated circuit. The performance of circuit is affected by the geometry of RF signal path. To investigate the effect of interconnection lines, a cascode LNA is designed, and circuit simulations with full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulations are executed for different positions of a component. As the results, the position of an external capacitor (Cex) changes the parasitic capacitance of electric coupling; the placement of component affects the circuit performance. This analysis of interconnection line is helpful to analyze the amount of electromagnetic coupling between the lines, and useful to choose the signal path in the layout design. The target of this work is the RF LNA enabling the seamless connection of wireless data network and the following standards have to be supported in multi-band (WCDMA: 2.11~ 2.17 GHz, CDMA200 1x : 1.84~1.87 GHz, WiBro : 2.3~2.4GHz) mobile application. This work has been simulated and verified by Cadence spectre RF tool and Ansoft HFSS. And also, this work has been implemented in a 0.13um RF CMOS technology process.

  • The aim of this study was to review previous literature to determine the effects of nature-based program for workers. This systematic review was conducted in accordance with National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency's guidance for undertaking systematic reviews for intervention. Literature search was performed using National Assembly Digital Library, Korean Studies Information Service System, and Korea Education & Research Information Service for literature published until March 2019. The participants were full-time workers, and intervention of nature-based programs was conducted in the outdoor, indoor, and indirect nature contact exposures, with comparators in the control group who did not receive the treatment. The results showed that the programs were effective in physical, psychological, and social health. The methodological quality of randomized controlled trials (RCT) was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias(RoB) tool, while non-randomized controlled trials (N-RCT) were assessed using the Cochrane Risk of bias assessment tool for non-randomized studuies (RoBANS). A total of 16 studies were selected for assessment: two RCTs, 10 N-RCTs, and four one-group pretest-posttest designs. Most interventions were provided at the workplace and in the community. There were many kinds of nature-based interventions, and forest therapy and horticultural therapy programs were most common. Various interventions for workers effectively improved job stress, depression, serum cortisol and stress-response. However, the included studies lacked methodological rigor. Future research is needed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of nature-based programs for workers using rigorous research designs.
