  • A multi purpose environmental monitoring system has been developed as a commercially available standard using the techniques which are FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating), Hetero-core spliced fiber optic sensor and etc, for the purposes of monitoring large scaled structures and preserving natural environments. The monitoring system has been tested and evaluated in a possible outdoor condition in view of the full scaled operation at actual sites to be monitored. Additionally, the developed systems in the previous works conveniently provided us with various options of sensor modules intended for monitoring such physical quantities as displacement, distortion, pressure, binary states, and liquid adhesion. In this paper, we extend the previous results to a water leakage detection problem and develop a sensing system as a result. By the experimental study, it is verified that multi-point leakage detection is possible using single line optical fiber.

  • TDR(Tear Down & Redesign)means that renounce the past resolutely, from a white paper condition, let's change directions. That is, let's redesign from the basic of the establishment of the construction process. Through the switchover the conception, innovate totally the whole existing processes. TDR is the best core innovation activity. The ultimate aim of the TDR activity induces the employees to do more productive business and obtain excellent results in the future by solving the problems, which are the nonproductive business in the business process on the objective view, the business that customers don't recognize the value, the same old practice of business, and the unsettled business from the restriction of resources. By organizing the related to workers of those business, they can solve the problems for 3-4months by full time working This paper inquires what are the obstruction factors on the process of executing TDR activity. Through the search of the reformation plan for the improvement of immersion degree, it presents some methods to be successful business.

  • The paper focuses on the integration of a non-linear one-dimensional model of Synthetic Jet (SJ) actuator in a well-assessed numerical simulation method for turbulent compressible flows. The computational approach is intended to the implementation of a numerical tool suited for flow control simulations with affordable CPU resources. A strong compromise is sought between the use of boundary conditions or zero-dimensional models and the full simulation of the actuator cavity, in view of long-term simulation with multiple synthetic jet actuators. The model is integrated in a multi-domain numerical procedure where the controlled flow field is simulated by a standard CFD method for compressible RANS equations, while flow inside the actuator is reduced to a one-dimensional duct flow with a moving piston. The non-linear matching between the two systems, which ensures conservation of the mass, momentum and energy is explained. The numerical method is successfully tested against three typical test cases: the jet in quiescent air, the SJ in cross flow and the flow control on the NACA0015 airfoil.

  • The study is aimed to assess the usefulness of the mixture design for spent resin immobilization in cement. Although a considerable amount of research has been carried out to determine the limits for the composition of an acceptable resin-cement mixture, no efficient experimental strategy exists that explores the full properties of waste form against composition relationship. In order to gain an overall view, this report introduces the method of mixture design and mixture analysis, and describes the design of experiment of the 5-component mixture with the constraint conditions. The mathematic models of 28-day compressive strength varying with the ingredients are fitted, and the main effect and interaction effect of two ingredients are identified quantitatively along with the graphical interpretation using the response trace plot and contour plots.

  • Two reasons for the low success rate of the practical implementation of BPR are the lack of good models and consideration of information system development stage in a BPR project. This paper suggests an Integrated Business Process Model (IBPM), which incorporates two distinct but interrelated points of view: form and business process. By integrating the form model with the business process model, the IBPM has advantages in performing BPR projects; it helps to build the model, to analyze and redesign business processes, and to do requirement analysis of information systems. This paper also suggests a new BPR supporting tool, BRAWII(Business Reengineering Assistance Workbench version 2.0). BRAWIIsupports IBPM and manages full stages of BPR project. In the design of BRAWII, the linkage between results of a BPR project and requirements for information system development is considered.

  • Direct volume rendering (DVR) is an important 3D visualization method for medical images as it depicts the full volumetric data. However, because DVR renders the whole volume, regions of interests (ROIs) such as a tumor that are embedded within the volume maybe occluded from view. Thus, conventional 2D cross-sectional views are still widely used, while the advantages of the DVR are often neglected. In this study, we propose a new visualization algorithm where we augment the 2D slice of interest (SOI) from an image volume with volumetric information derived from the DVR of the same volume. Our occlusion-based DVR augmentation for SOI (ODAS) uses the occlusion information derived from the voxels in front of the SOI to calculate a depth parameter that controls the amount of DVR visibility which is used to provide 3D spatial cues while not impairing the visibility of the SOI. We outline the capabilities of our ODAS and through a variety of computer tomography (CT) medical image examples, compare it to a conventional fusion of the SOI and the clipped DVR.

  • Communication Ocean Meteorological Satellite (COMS) is planned to be launched onto Geostationary Earth Orbit in 2008. The meteorological imager (MI) is one of COMS payloads and has 5 spectral channels to monitor meteorological phenomenon around the Korean peninsular intensively and of Asian-side full Earth disk periodically. The MI has on-board radiometric calibration capabilities called 'blackbody calibration' for infrared channels and 'space look' for infrared/visible channels, and radiometric response stability monitoring device called 'albedo monitor' for visible channel. Additionally the MI has on-board function called 'electrical calibration' for the check of imaging path electronics of both infrared and visible channels. The characterization of MI performance is performed to provide the pre-launch radiometric calibration data which will be used for in-orbit radiometric calibration with the on-board calibration outputs. The radiometric calibration of the COMS MI is introduced in the view point of instrument side in terms of in-orbit calibration devices and capabilities as well as the pre-launch calibration activities and expected outputs.

  • In this study, welding distortion analysis is performed for various design of tube shape structures which are assembled with aluminum sheet metal. Aluminum 5052 plates of 1mm thickness are used to analyze. An efficient keyhole model, as a welding heat source, is used for the prediction of full penetration weld size and shape which is required for the thermal analysis. The thermal and mechanical material properties are considered as temperature dependent functions, due to the high temperature variations during the welding. The numerical model is calculated by using a commercial software and evaluated with the experiments. The calculation results could make a comparative study in the view of distortion for the various size and shape of structure.

  • A plasma is a collection of charged particles and on average is electrically neutral. In fabricating integrated circuits, plasma etching is a key means to transfer a photoresist pattern into an underlayer material. To construct a predictive model of plasma-etching processes, a polynomial neural network (PNN) is applied. This process was characterized by a full factorial experiment, and two attributes modeled are its etch rate and DC bias. According to the number of input variables and type of polynomials to each node, the prediction performance of the PNN was optimized. The various performances of the PNN in diverse environments were compared to three types of statistical regression models and the adaptive network fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). As the demonstrated high-prediction ability in the simulation results shows, the PNN is efficient and much more accurate from the point of view of approximation and prediction abilities.
