  • In order to minimize the trial frequency in the new filter cigarette design, we studied the relationship between smoke yield and tipping materials of cigarette. A three levels full factorial design involving filament denier (X1,2.5-3.3d), Porosity of the acetate filter plug wrap (X2, 3,500-16,000CU) and porosity of the tip paper (X3, 400-1,200CU) was used. Three independent factors (Xl, X2, X3) were chosen for their effects on the various responses and the function was expressed in terms of a quadratic polynomial equation, Y : $\beta$o + $\beta$1Xl + $\beta$2X2 + $\beta$3X3 + $\beta$11Xl2 + $\beta$22X22+ $\beta$33X32 + $\beta$12X1X2 + $\beta$13XIX3 $\beta$23X2X3 which measures the linear, quadratic, and interaction effects. Twenty-nine trial numbers were obtained as a results of using a three levels full factorial design and it was analyzed by the multiple regression analysis with backward stepwise in STATISTICA/pc under restricted conditions. Tar yields of the cigarette was affected by porosity of tip paper (0.66), filament denier (0.47) and porosity of plug wrap (0.28) in the decreasing order, and linear effect of tip paper porosity (B3) and filament denier (91) were significant at a level of 0.01($\alpha$). The filament denier and tipping paper porosity interaction F ratio among three factors had a P-value of 0,000041, indicating higher interaction between these factors. Based on the analysis of variance, the model fitted for Tar (Y1) was significant at 5% confidence level and the coefficient of determination (0.96) was the proportion of variability in the data fitted for by the model.

  • $Mg(OH)_2$ particles were prepared by precipitation and a hydrothermal treatment to examine the effect of $MgCl_2$ concentration, alkali type and concentration, temperature, hydrothermal treatment on the formation of $Mg(OH)_2$ particles using full factorial design, as one of DOE (Design of experiment) methods. The primary particle size is similar to the secondary particle size for the samples after the hydrothermal treatment, where the average particle size of $Mg(OH)_2$ increased with increasing the concentration of $MgCl_2$ and hydrothermal temperature and decreasing alkali/Mg molar ratio. On the other hand, for the samples prepared from precipitation, the secondary particle size is larger than the primary particles due to aggregation. The difference in alkaline source is that the particles prepared from $NH_4OH$ exhibit the larger size with better dispersion than those from NaOH. Low density polyethylene and ethylene-co-vinyl acetate (LDPE-EVA) resin composed of the smaller secondary particle size of $Mg(OH)_2$ shows a higher limited oxygen index (LOI) at 50 and 55% loading, but the smaller primary particle size may result in a better grade in UL-94 tests. At the high loading of 60%, all samples with any preparation methods exhibit V-0 grade but the LOI value depends on not only primary particle size but also dispersion state.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel approach to effectively compress the sub-images transformed from the picked-up elemental images in integral imaging, in which motion vectors of the object in each sub-image are fast and accurately estimated and compensated by combined use of MSE(mean square error)-based TSS(tree-step search) and FS(full search) schemes. This is, the possible object areas in each sub-image are searched by using the fast TSS algorithm in advance, then the these selected object areas are fully searched with the accurate FS algorithm. Furthermore, the sub-images in which all object's motion vectors are compensated, are transformed into the residual images by using the difference image method and finally compressed with the MPEG-4 algorithm. Experimental results reveal that the proposed method shows 214% improvement in the compression time per each image frame compared to that of the conventional method while keeping the same compression ratio with the conventional method. These successful results confirm the feasibility of the proposed method in the practical application.

  • Various types of shearing devices which may be a substitute for the conventional beams in stow nets were considered, and then tentatively named "the zonal canvas type of stow net" having the shearing device made of zonal canvas was devised. A 1/3 model of the net was made and experimented at sea. Converted to the full scale, the measured water resistance R(kg) of the net was given by $R=5.6{\times}10^{3}V^{l.5}$ or $R=3.5\frac{d}{l}{\lambda}_b{\lambda}_l\;V^{1.5}$, where V is the water velocity (m/sec), d the diameter of netting bars, l the length of the bars, ${\lambda}_b$ the stretched circumference of net mouth (m), ${\lambda}_l$ the length of net stretched. The net height kept about $83\%$ of the side rope length regardless of the variation of V and the net breadth kept a value over $90\%$ of the head rope length until V reached 1 m/sec. These results were very successful according to expectation, but the conventional netting was requested a further improvement. Therefore, the netting was newly designed to have smaller size of meshes in the vicinity of net mouth and larger hanging ratio breadthwise. With the netting a full scale net was made and experimented by a stern trawler. The experiment gave a net breadth over $95\%$ of the head rope length until V reached 1m/sec and showed no faults in the net. But the net operation by the stern trawler was ascribed an inconvenience to its narrow breadth of stern slip way.

  • Purpose: With a view to providing basic data to develop cardiopulmonary resuscitation education suitable for elementary students, the cardiopulmonary resuscitation education was conducted to grasp students' knowledge, skills accuracy and the attitude change before and after the education. Methods: Convenience sampling was made on fourth and fifth graders(total-35 students) of S elementary school located in K city, Chungcheongnam-do, and this was a pre-experiment research designed before and after choosing a single group. In terms of methods, specifically we, researchers ; 1) Handed out questionnaires to students directly to make them fill in firsthand and collected the questionnaires. 2) Utilized PPT materials based on 2005 AHA guideline and DVD materials of AHA, to give students theoretical education of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. We used Anne/SkillReporter$^{(R)}$ torso produced by Leardal Inc, and Little Anne to conduct practical education individually. 3) Asked students to give Anne/SkillReporter$^{(R)}$ torso cardiopulmonary resuscitation five times with the ratio of 30 : 2, and then one of researchers filled in the evaluation sheet individually. 4) Evaluated the accuracy of students' ability to perform the resuscitation based on the record of Anne/SkillReporter$^{(R)}$ integrated printer(which was the objective tool to grasp students' skills accuracy). 5) Gave out questionnaires to make students fill them in and then collected them. after completing the practical evaluation. Results: 1) In case of the attitude about cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Students' confidency rose from 19.28%(before the education) to 93.57(after the education)- which is a positive change. 2) As the result of the education, some elementary students scored 11 points (full score-16 points), up from 5 points before the education, in terms of the knowledge about cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The average point also reached 13.14 points(after the education), jump from 8.37(before the education), which was the rise of 29.8%. 3) When it comes to the practical performance, the skills accuracy was 80.93% on average, and the calculation method was as follows: total items were 16, and each item was marked form 0 to 2 points, meaning the full score was 32 points. The minimum score was 19 points and the maximum was 32($M{\pm}SD=25.90{\pm}2.88$), which was calculated based on percentage. 4) Regarding skills accuracy, respiration accuracy(%)($M{\pm}SD=30.20{\pm}27.16$) was higher than pressure accuracy(%) ($M{\pm}SD=15.34{\pm}25.27$). Conclusion: The result showed that students' attitude on cardiopulmonary resuscitation changed positively. and meaningful difference(p = .00) existed in the change of students' knowledge. In terms of skills accuracy. chest compression and airway control showed high accuracy, but the result of Anne/SkillReporter$^{(R)}$ performance showed that the accuracy of chest compression was lower than that of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

  • The performance of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell could be decreased due to coolant leaked from connection part. Micro pump was used to put small amount of coolant and investigate the effect on fuel cell. The stoichiometric ratio of hydrogen/air was 1.5/2.0, both side of gas was fully humidified, and current density of $400mA/cm^2$ was used as standard condition in this experiment. Constant current method was used to check performance recovery from coolant effect in 3 cell stack. The performance was recovered when coolant was injected in cathode side. On the other hand, the performance was not recovered when coolant was injected in anode side. Ethylene glycol could be converted to CO in oxidation process and cause poisoning effect on platinum catalyst or be adhered on GDL and cause gas diffusion block effect resulting performance decrease. Water with nitrogen gas was supplied in anode side to check performance recovery. Polarization curve, cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to check performance, and gas chromatography was used to check coolant concentration. Constant current method was not enough in full recovery of performance. However, water injection method was proved good method in full recovery of performance.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of light intensity on the growth and biomass production of Pinus thunbergii seedlings. The experiment was performed under five different light intensities such as 100, 50, 30, 10, and 25 of the natural full sun light intensity for 2 year in the field condition. The seedling showed the highest height and root collar diameter growth under natural full sun light. The height growth of the seedling under 50% of light intensity showed 96.4% of the control seedling in the first year, and 88.9% in the second year, and the root collar diameter growth showed 94.1% in the first year 77.6% in the second year. Height and root collar diameter growth was markedly reduced below 30% of relative light intensity, and the reduction rate of root collar diameter growth was higher than that of height growth. All the tested seedlings died under 2% of relative light intensity in the second year. Biomass production was also reduced by decreasing of relative light intensity, the reduction rate of root biomass production in both first and second years was higher than that of leaf or shoot biomass production. The lowest reduction was observed at the shoot in the first year, and at the leaves in the second year The highest T/R ratio was recorded by 3.55 in the seedling under 50% of relative light intesity in the first year, and by 4.88 under 10% of relative light intensity in the second year.

  • Wavelength converting devices with a ridge-type waveguide in periodically poled $MgO:LiNbO_3$ are made and characterized. The experimental results are compared with theoretical analysis on the effects of waveguide dimension and duty ratio of the periodically poled structure. To show the relationship of the conversion efficiency to those factors, a new measurement system is configured. That experimental results show that the center wavelength, normalized conversion efficiency and full width half maximum of the conversion efficiency curve are 1067.45 nm, 90.7%/$Wcm^2$ and 0.17 nm, respectively. Also, the estimated results of the duty period and full width half maximum of the conversion efficiency from theoretical calculations agreed well with experimental results with the errors of 0.016 ${\mu}m$ and 0.01 nm.

  • The crystal structure of an iodine sorption complex of vacumm-dehydrated Ag+ and Ca2+ exchanged zeolite A(a=12.174(3)Å) has been determined at 21℃ by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Pm3m. The crystal was prepared by flow method for three days using exchange solution in solution in which mole ratio of AgNO3 and Ca(NO3)2 was 1:150 with total concentration of 0.05 M. The complex was prepared by dehydration at 360℃ and 2×10-6 Torr for 2 days, followed by exposure to about 14.3 Torr of iodine vaporat 80℃ for 24 hours. Full-matrix least-squares refinement converged to the final error indices of R1=0.082, R2=0.068 using 122 reflections for which I > 3σ(I). Two Ag+ ions, 1.1 Ag+ ions, and 4.45 Ca2+ ions per unit cell are located on three different three-fold axes associated with 6-ring oxygens. Two Ag+ ions per unit cell are in the large cavity, 1.399(4)Å from the (111) plane of three oxygens. Another 1.1 Ag+ ions are found at opposite sites. Six iodine molecules are sorbed per unit cell. Each I2 molecule approaches a framework oxide ion axially (O-I=3.43(2)Å, I-I=2.92Å, I-I-O;166.1(3)°), by a charge transfer complex interaction. Two Ag+ ions make a close approach to the iodine molecules (Ag-I ; 2.73(2)Å).
