The purpose of study was to compare the caries experience between the mentally retarded(MR) and the normal(N) children and adolescents and to survey the dental visit frequency. preventive dental care, and tooth-brushing behavior of the mentally retarded. Two hundred and fifty MR and two hundred and ten N subjects were selected for the study. 1. The number of teeth which had experienced caries was 3.28 in MR and 4.66 in N. The number of decayed teeth was 2.24 in MR and 1.50 in N. The number of filled teeth was 0.71 in MR and 3.06 in N Filled teeth rate was 19.78% in MR and 58.89% in N The differences between MR and N were all significant(P<0.01). 2. Dental visit frequency of MR was 1.15 per year, and the 51.2% of MR did not visit the dental clinic for the last one year. 38.0% of MR had received the preventive dental care. 3. Toothbrushing frequency per day was 2.16 and the toothbrushing time for 78.3% of MR was less than two minutes. 51.2% of MR brushed their teeth by themselves, 13.3% did with the help of the carers, and 35.5% totally depended on the carers. In conclusion, MR experienced less dental caries than N, had more untreated caries than N, and had need for regular preventive dental care.
We prepared nanoparticles containing insoluble aceclofenac by the method of solid dispersions using spray dryer to improve solubility of aceclofenac. We used PVP-K30 as a water soluble carrier for the solid dispersion and poloxamer as a surfactant. Characterization of aceclofenac solid dispersion was performed by SEM, DSC, XRD and FT-IR. The results of SEM, DSC and XRD demonstrated that aceclofenac is amorphous in solid dispersion. The formation of salt by hydrogen bond between aceclofenac and PVP K-30 was confirmed by FT-IR. The dissolution rate measured in intestinal juice showed the method of solid dispersion improved aceclofenac solubility as compared with a conventional drug($Airtal^{(R)}$). In conclusion, the method of solid dispersion using spray dryer would improve solubility of aceclofenac in oral administration.
In this study the discharged wastewater from a paper plant was filtrated by 4 kinds of tubular carbon ceramic ultrafiltration membranes with periodic water-back-flushing. We could investigate effects of watch-back-flushing period, transmembrane pressure (TMP) and flow rate, and find optimal operating conditions. The back-f1ushing time (BT) was fixed at 3 sec, and fi1tration times (FT) werc changed in 15~60 scc, TMP in 1.00~2.50$kg_{f}$/$cm^2$, and the flow rates in 0.27~1.75 L/min. The optimal conditions were discussed in 7he viewpoints of dimensionless permeate flux (J/J$_{0}$), total permeate volume ($V^T$) and resistance of membrane fouling ($R^f$). Optima1 back-flushing period was BT/FT=0.20, suggesting that the frequent back-flushing should decrease membrane fouling. Optimal TMP in the viewpoint of $V^T$ was 1.00~1.55$kg_{f}$/$cm^2$, suggesting that rising TMP should increase membrane fouling and decrease permeate flux. But, rising f1ow rate should decrease membrane fouling and increase permeate flux. Then, average rejection rates of pollutants filtratedby carbon ceramic membranes were 88~98 % for turbidity, 48~72% fort $COD_{cr}$ and 37~76% for TDS.

To investigate in influence of photosensitizer used with benzophenone(BP) in the curing rate and physical properties of UV curable hard coating on plastic, we prepared UV curable clear and pigmented coatings with DEA, DMA, NPM and TEA as photosensitizer, respectively. The curing rate calculated from the decrease of the absorbance of acrylic double bond measured by FT-IR spectroscopy increased s follows; DEA>DMA>NPM>TEA. this order could be explained by the reactivity of diethylamino group of DEA and the ease of formation of activated complex between BP and photosensitizer during the curing process. In UV curable pigmented coatings, the order of curing rate increased as follows; DEA>DMA>TEA>NPM. It was found that the curing rate of the pigmented coating can be increased by light scattering of TiO$_2$. The hardness of coating film cured by photosensitization of DEA and DMA is higher than other photosensitizers due to the crosslinking reaction of DEA and DMA radical bound to polymer backbone.

Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposited (PECVD) silicon nitride ($SiN_X$) is widely used as a gate dielectric material for the hydrogenated amorphous silicon(a-Si:H) thin film transistors (TFT's). We investigated $SiN_X$ films were deposited PECVD at low temperature ($300^{\circ}C$). The reaction gases were used pure nitrogen and a helium diluted of silane gas(20% $SiH_4$, 80% He). Experimental investigations were carried out with the variation of $N_2/SiH_4$ flow ratios from 3 to 50 and the rf power of 200 W. This article presents the $SiN_X$ gate dielectric studies in terms of deposition rate, hydrogen content, etch rate and C-V, leakage current density characteristics for the gate dielectric layer of thin film transistor applications. Electrical properties were analyzed through high frequency (1MHz) C-V and current-voltage (I-V) measurements. The thickness and the refractive index on the films were measured by ellipsometry and chemical bonds were determined by using an FT-IR equipment.
In this work, the effects of atmospheric oxygen plasma treatment of carbon fibers on mechanical interfacial properties of carbon fibers-reinforced epoxy matrix composites was studied. The surface properties of the carbon fibers were determined by acid/base values, Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. Also, the crack resistance properties of the composites were investigated in critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$), and critical strain energy release rate mode II ($G_{IIC}$) measurements. As experimental results, FT-IR of the carbon fibers showed that the carboxyl/ester groups (C=O) at 1632 $cm^{-1}$ and hydroxyl group (O-H) at 3450 $cm^{-1}$ were observed for the plasma treated carbon fibers, and the treated carbon fibers had the higher O-H peak intensity than that of the untreated ones. The XPS results also indicated that the $O_{1S}/C_{1S}$ ratio of the carbon fiber surfaces treated by the oxygen plasma led to development of oxygen-containing functional groups. The mechanical interfacial properties of the composites, including $K_{IC}$ (critical stress intensity factor) and $G_{IIC}$ (critical strain energy release rate mode II), were also improved for the oxygen plasma-treated carbon fibersreinforced composites. These results could be explained that the oxygen plasma treatment played an important role to increase interfacial adhesions between carbon fibers and epoxy matrix resins in our composite system.

Serum samples of 30 chickens per flock from 6 grand parent stock (GPS) farms and 70 parent stock (PS) farms were collected for seroprevalent study of pullorum disease-fowl typhoid (PD-FT) infection by serum plate agglutination test (SPA). The incidence of PD-FT infection in GPS flocks and PS flocks were 0% and 15.7%, respectively. Especially PS flocks infected with PD-FT showed age dependent patterns that 22.2% of flocks between 20 to 30 weeks of age and 38.9% of flocks between 30 to 40 weeks of age were positive. The incidence of GPS flocks and PS flocks using Salmonella (S.) gallinarum 9R (SG9R) live vaccine were 33.3% and 58.6%, respectively. The sero-positive rate of 11 flocks were 6.7-83.3% by SPA and 2.9-55.6% by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and ELISA showed more lower antibody levels than SPA. Furthermore, specific antibodies produced by SG9R vaccination were detectable by SPA using SG9R antigen without cross-reaction with the PD-FT infection.

The research attempted to develop an eco-friendly wood adhesive based on vegetable oil (soybean oil), the renewable and sustainable natural resources, using ozonification technology for the chemical structure modification. The soybean oils (SBO) were reacted with $O_3$ at the rate of 7.13 g/h for different times, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 120 minutes. Modified chemical structure of the ozonized SBOs were examined by Fourier transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectrum. The FT-IR spectrum of SBO had an absorbance peak at $3010cm^{-1}$ that is the characteristic peak of the unsaturated double bonds. As ozone treatment time increased, the peak of the double bond was disappeared and aldehyde or carboxyl peak appeared at $1700cm^{-1}$. The dry, wet, and cyclic boiling bond strengths of the ozonized SBO mixed with polymeric diphenylmethane-4, 4-diisocyanate (pMDI) were also investigated. In the dry shear test, all strengths met constantly the standard requirement of $7.0kgf/cm^2$ (KS F3101 2006). The bond strengths gradually increased with increasing ozone treatment time. The highest strength showed at 60 minutes ozone treatment and decreased values at 120 minutes. In the cyclic boiling shear test, 30, 60 and 120 minutes exceeded the standard requirement.
The effects of epoxy resins and content of catalyst on the cure characteristics were studied by FT-IR, DSC and dynamic viscometer for the thermal properties and rheological properties of the catalytic (N-Benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate, BPH) epoxy thermosetting system. Compared with DSC results of DEGBF containing 0.5wt% BPH, the DSC thermograms of DGEBA containing 0.5wt% BPH indicated that the reaction was faster than that of DGEBF/BPH and the conversion rate of DGEBA/BPH was high in the initial stage of the reaction. As the concentration of BPH increases, the reaction and conversion rates show similar value in both the cases. The influence of hydroxyl group of epoxy resin on gel point defined from the crossover point of storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G") could be explained by the formation of 3-dimensional network in the initial stage owing to the curing reaction between epoxides and hydroxyl groups of epoxy resin. This was consistent with the gel point obtained from DSC, FT-IR and moduli crossover. The activation energy (Et) obtained from the crossover point (G'/G"=1) are $31-39kJ.mol^{-1}$ for various BPH compositions in case of two epoxy systems.

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the fluoride release and the change of surface roughness of fluoride releasing restorative materials after toothbrush-dentifrice abrasion. Seven commercially available fluoride releasing restorative materials (Fuji II LC Improved: FL, Compoglass F: CG, Dyract AP: DR, F2000: FT, Ariston: AT, Tetric: TR, and Gradia: GD) were selected as experimental materials. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The AT, FL, and CF groups produce an initially large burst of fluoride release and comparatively low but continuous release of fluoride. But other groups produce no initial burst of fluoride and levels of release remain relatively constant. 2. The rate of fluoride release remains steady state after 40 days. The results of Tukey's test (P<.05), the fluoride release showed the order of decreasing rank as follows: AT > FL > compomers > TC and GD. 3. The surface roughness indicated that the highest value was observed in the FT group and the lowest value was observed in the CF group. The surface roughness of Tukey's test showed the significant differences between groups of FT, AT and FL and groups of CF, DR, GD and TC (P<0.05).
