  • Biologically treated water contains a large quantity of organic matters and microorganisms which can cause various problems to membrane. The membrane fouling occurred by these reasons is hard to control by single physical cleaning. This study analyzes the efficiency of aeration with chemical backwashing and foulants removal during chemical backwashing. The cleaning efficiency improves when the chemical concentration is high and the contact time of chemical is long. Chemical backwashing with aeration shows exceptional cleaning efficiency which leads the physical cleaning is required during chemical backwashing since it forms flow inside the membrane submerged tank. From the foulants removal analysis, the particles such as turbidity and TOC removal rate increase when the aeration is applied. Dissolved matter of DOC and UV254 removal is dependent on higher chemical concentration. According to FTIR analysis, one of major foulants, the polysaccharide is controlled by the chemical backwashing with aeration condition.

  • Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films have been prepared by a widely-used plasma CVD with an rf (13.56MHz) plasma of $CH_4$ gas. The hydrogen incorporated in DLC films plays an important role of determining the film properties, but its exact role has not been clear. In this study, the effect of hydrogen on the film properties of DLC has been examined by adding the hydrogen gas to the $CH_4$ gas during deposition and by exposing the prepared film to the hydrogen plasma. As the content of additive hydrogen gas increases, the density and hardness of the film increase, but the growth rate decreases. The FT-IR spectroscopy results show that the number of C-H bonds decreases with increasing the hydrogen gas. Also, the variation in the position of "G" and "D" peaks due to additive hydrogen, which has been measured by the Raman spectroscopy, indicates of $sp^3$ fraction.

  • The pearlesent pigment has received attention in a diversity of fields like cosmetics, inks, paints and so on. Ferric Ferrocyanide, one of the nano sized pearlescent pigment, is a kind of surface modification pigment that covers a metal oxidized substance or a coloring agent with uniform thickness. Characteristics of pearlescent pigment are various interference color, intense gloss effect and a three-dimensional effect. We synthesised the pearlesent pigment that ferric ferrocyanide can be deposited on the titania/mica surface by hydrothermal synthesis method. The process parameters are concentration of precursor, controlling pH and reaction temperature. The optimun conditions is that amount of iron(III) chloride hexahydrate is 3.1 wt% and amount of potassim ferrocynide trihydrate is 3.6 wt% in the started pH 4.5 at $70^{\circ}C$. The coating rate and coating efficiency of ferric ferrocyanide was about 1.47 % and 96.7 %, respectively. The synthesised pearlesent pigment was characterized by SEM, XRD, FT-IR and EDS.

  • The consolidation behavior of multicomponent particles prepared by the flame hydrolysis deposition process is examined to identify the effects of Si substrate temperature. To fabricate multi-component particles, a vapor-phase ternary mixture of $SiCl_4(100 cc/min),\;BCl_3(30cc/min)\;and\;POCl_3,(5cc/min)$ was fed into a coflow diffusion oxy-hydrogen flame burner. The doped silica soot bodies were deposited on silicon substrates under various deposition conditions. The surface temperature of the substrate was measured by an infrared thermometer. Changes in the chemical states of the doped silica soot bodies were examined by FT-IR(Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy). The deposited particles on the substrate were heated at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 3h in a furnace at a heating rate of 10K/min. Si-O-B bending peak has been found when surface temperature exceeds $720^{\circ}C$. Correspondingly, the case with substrate temperatures above loot produced good consolidation result.

  • Composited molybdenum oxide and amorphous carbon (MoO3/C) as anode material for lithium ion batteries has been successfully synthesized by calcining polyaniline (PANI) doped with ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate (AMo). The as prepared electrode material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The electrochemical performance of the anode was investigated by galvanostatic charge/discharge, cyclic voltammetry (CV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The MoO3/C shows higher specific capacity, better cyclic performance and rate performance than pristine MoO3 at room temperature. The electrochemical of MoO3/C properties at various temperatures were also investigated. At elevated temperature, MoO3/C exhibited higher specific capacity but suffered rapidly declines. While at low temperature, the electrochemical performance was mainly limited by the low kinetics of lithium ion diffusion and the high charge transfer resistance.

  • Since there are three hydroxyl groups on each anhydroglucose ring of the cellulose, the renewable resources, we can get various functional papers by the chemical modification of cellulose. The reaction involving the introduction of the ${\beta}$-cyanoethyl ($-CH_2-CH_2$-CN) group into organic substances containing reactive hydrogen atoms is known as cyanoethylation. Cellulose reacts with acrylonitrile in the presence of strong alkalis in a typical manner of primary and secondary alcohols to form cyanoethyl ethers. In cyanoethylation, important factors of reaction are temperature, concentration of the NaOH, and addition rate of acrylronitrile. FT-IR spectra of cyanoethyl group was confirmed at $2250cm^{-1}$, which corresponds the introduction of aliphatic nitrile group. Effect of cyanoethyl DS(degree of substitution) on strength properties was resulted that cyanoethylated BKP of DS 0.04 appeared to be the best choice for overall strength properties. Also, excellent thermal stability in aging characteristics was obtained.

  • Methacrylate functional silanes with different methylene spacer groups have been synthesized and the orientation effect and absorption behavior of these silane coupling agent were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). The mechanical properties of glass bead/polyester composites are found to be dependent on the spacer group of treated silane coupling agent. The absorption rate of the silane coupling agent onto the fumed silica surface decreases with increasing the number of the methylene spacer in methacrylate functional silanes. Silane molecules containing long spacer groups are adsorbed onto silica slightly bowed with respect to the substrate surface. The relationship between silane molecular structure and mechanical properties of polymer composites is also investigated in order to improve hot/wet properties of glass fiber/polyester composites.

  • This study was carried out to define the effects of anti-juvenile hormone analogue(AJH) treatment at different silkworm larval stages on some silk filament properties. It was revealed that the treatments at the 1st and 2nd days of the 3rd instar as well as the 1st day of the 4th instar resulted to trimolters induction without lethal effect. The trimolters induced by treatment at the 1st day of the 4th instar showed the shortest larval duration and the lowest single cocoon weight, cocoon shell ratio, cocoon size, single filament length and denier of filament compared with those of the control, while the trimolters induced by the 3rd-instar treatment showed intermediate values. All treatments showed no significant differences from the aspect fo degumming ratio, elongation rate and crystallinity index of fibroin. However the silk filament obtained from the treatment at the 1st day of the 4th instar showed the highest tenacity which was revealed to be related to the better uniformity of filament by the means of microscopic photographing. FT-IR spectroscopy of the silk fibroin showed a sharp and strong peak at the position of 794.72 cm-1 in all AJH-treated samples regardless of trimolters induction, which was absent in control.

  • As a feasibility study for the application of carbon nanotubes to the treatment of environmental pollutants, the adsorption characteristics of humic acid on carbon nanotubes has been investigated. The dispersion features of carbon nanotubes in aquatic environment were investigated by measuring the variation of their electrokinetic potentials with pH, and the effects of some dispersants on their dispersion features were also examined. Under the experimental conditions, humic acid was observed to mostly adsorb on nanotubes within a few minutes and reach the equilibrium state within about one hour. The adsorption features of humic acid on nanotubes were found to follow the Freundlich model better than the Langmuir Model. Humic acid adsorbed on carbon nanotubes endothermically and the change of enthalpy in adsorption reaction was estimated to be ca. 18.37kJ/mol at standard state. The entropic change in adsorption reaction for humic acid was ca. 0.0503kJ/mol at standard state and the activation energy for adsorption was also estimated based on the change of rate constants with temperature. FT-IR investigations showed that the functional groups such as alcohol, ester, and aromatics existing in the chemical structure of humic acid might work as the bridge in its adsorption on nanotubes.

  • Recently, the increasing degree of device integration in the fabrication of Si semiconductor devices, etching processes of nano-scale materials and high aspect-ratio (HAR) structures become more important. Due to this reason, etch selectivity control during etching of HAR contact holes and trenches is very important. In this study, The etch selectivity and etch rate of TEOS oxide layer using ACL (amorphous carbon layer) mask are investigated various process parameters in CH2F2/C4F8/O2/Ar plasma during etching TEOS oxide layer using ArF/BARC/SiOx/ACL multilevel resist (MLR) structures. The deformation and etch characteristics of TEOS oxide layer using ACL hard mask was investigated in a dual-frequency superimposed capacitively coupled plasma (DFS-CCP) etcher by different fHF/ fLF combinations by varying the CH2F2/ C4F8 gas flow ratio plasmas. The etch characteristics were measured by on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) And X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). A process window for very high selective etching of TEOS oxide using ACL mask could be determined by controlling the process parameters and in turn degree of polymerization. Mechanisms for high etch selectivity will discussed in detail.
