The current study was performed to investigate the effect of recycling coir substrates on the growth, fruit yield, and quality of strawberry plants. Analysis of physical properties revealed that the pH of a fresh coir substrate was 5.04 while those of substrates reused for one and two years were 5.20 and 5.33, respectively. The electrical conductivity (EC) of a new substrate was as high as $4.58dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. This can cause salt stress after transplanting. The EC tended to decrease as the substrate was recycled, and the EC of a two-year recycled substrate was $1.48dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. The fresh substrate had lower nitrogen and calcium concentrations, but higher phosphate, potassium, and sodium concentrations than the recycled coir substrate. The coir substrates recycled for one or two years maintained better chemical properties for plant growth than the fresh substrate. Strawberry growth varied depending on the number of years that the coir substrate was recycled. In general, strawberries grown in substrates that had been reused for two years did better than those grown in substrates that had been reused once or were fresh. Ninety days after transplanting, a plant grown in a substrate that had been reused for two years contained 25 leaves, which was 3.6 more than with a fresh substrate. In addition, the plants grown in a substrate that had been reused for two years exhibited larger leaf areas than those grown in other substrates. Coir substrates that had been reused for one year increased the number and area of leaves, but not as much as the substrate that had been reused for two years. One- and two-year reused coir substrates increased the weight of strawberries produced relative to the unused substrate, but the difference was not statistically significant. The plants grown in two-year reused substrates were longer and wider, as well. Also, the number of fruits per plant was higher when substrates were reused. Specifically, the number of fruits per plant was 28.7 with a two-year reused substrate, but only 22.2 with a fresh substrate. The fruit color indices (as represented by their Hunter L, a, b values) were not considerably affected by recycling of the coir substrate. The Hunter L value, which indicates the brightness of the fruit, did not change significantly when the substrate was recycled. Neither Hunter a (red) nor b (yellow) values were changed by recycling. In addition, there were no significant changes in the hardnesses, acidities, or soluble solid-acid ratios of fruits grown in recycled substrates. Thus, it is thought that recycling the coir substrate does not affect measures of fruit quality such as color, hardness, and sugar content. Overall, reuse of coir substrates from hydroponic culture as high-bed strawberry growth substrates would solve the problems of new substrate costs and the disposal of substrates that had been used once.

The experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of nitrogen and potassium sources on growth and yield of strawberry 'Seolhyang' and 'Maehyang' in fertigation culture. The plant fresh and dry weight were higher in urea + potassium sulfate and ammonium sulfate + potassium sulfate as nitrogen and potassium sources than others in both varieties. But there were no significant difference among nitrogen and potassium sources in other growth characteristics, such as plant height, no. of leaf, crown diameter etc. Also, the marketable yield of fruit were higher in urea + potassium sulfate and ammonium sulfate + potassium sulfate in 'Seolhyang' than other treatments. 'Maehyang' was better in both treatments but there was no significant difference. The fruit qualities, such as total soluble solid, hardness, acidity, vitamin C content were not significant difference among the treatments. The acidity of soil was tended to decrease but EC was tended to increase highly in ammonium sulfate treatments as a nitrogen source. As above results, the urea and potassium sulfate were recommended as nitrogen and potassium sources for the fertigation culture of strawberry 'Seolhyang' and 'Maehyang'.
For the elucidation of some information on processing properties of tomato, physicochemical characteristics of fruits were analysed for two group of cultivation pattern, non-proped cultivation (5 varieties) and groped cultivation (4 varieties). Weight, length, width, thickness and specific gravity were greater in the groped cultivation group than in the non-groped. Among the groped varieties, Master 2 showed the greatest values and 76Mo11-3-1-2-2 the smallest. Among the non-groped, weight, length, width and specific gravity were greatest in Jinhong and thickness was greatest in Good Hope and smallest in $79078{\times}ARC$. Hardness showed significant difference only among the non-groped resulting in the lowest value in $79078{\times}ARC$. Fruit sphericity was greater in the non-groped among which Good Hope was the greatest. In fruit color the non-groped showed greater trend in dominant wavelength, especially in Good Hope. No significant difference between group was found in lightness and % chroma. Sugar content showed higher trend in the non-groped and highest in Master 2. Acidity was significantly higher in the non-groped and highest in Good Hope. There was no difference in pH. Vitamin C was difference between group but higher trend in $79078{\times}ARC$. Viscosity was no difference between group but higher trend in $79078{\times}CL1561F6$ of the non-groped and 76Mo11-3-1-2-2-of the groped.
This study was to investigate physicochemical and sensory evaluation properties of chicken jerky with pear, pineapple and kiwi extracts. Moisture content range was $25.87{\sim}27.55%$, and crude protein and crude fat turned out to satisfy the jerky standard. Degree of saline was $5.34{\sim}5.44%$, and that value showed lower level of T-1, T-2 and T-3 sample than C-1. The pH levels of the samples with fruit extracts were low, and, as the storage period was extended, they increased. The initial level of water activation was $0.732{\sim}0.756%$, which proved significant in the storage period(p<0.01). Hardness value of jerky products was $45.25{\sim}49.66{\times}10^5dyne/cm^2$, and the kiwi extract added jerky samples showed the lowest. Strength value range was $89.37{\sim}108.16{\times}10^5dyne/cm^2$, and the S-1 was the highest. It has significance between contrasting groups and comparing ones and among the storage periods(p<0.01). The color value of early jerky products showed 4.80, the highest, and the shape and the texture showed above 4.50, and the flavor was above 4.30, which became lower as the storage periods at normal temperature were extended.

This study investigates the quality of strawberry jam containing different quantities of strawberry. Strawberry jam was prepared by the addition of 70-30%(w/w) strawberry puree, Sweetness, pH, total acidity, color, anthocyanin and pectin content, texture, free sugar, and organic acid content of the samples were measured. Decrease in the quantity of the strawberry puree led to a decrease in the following: total acidity(significance value p<0.05), anthocyanin, pectin, total free sugar, frutose, glucose, sucrose, and, organic acid content, namely oxalic acid, citric acid, malic acid, succinic acid, and formic acid. A texture profile analysis showed reduction in the hardness, gumminess, and chewiness of the jam. At the same time, decrease in the puree quantity also led to an increase in the sweetness, pH, L-value, a-value and b-value(significance value p<0.05) of the jam. These results promote, the consumption of fruit that are high in fruit, low in sugar, and do not contain any chemical additives.

This work characterizes 'Yeolha', a new strawberry (Fragaria ${\times}$ ananassa Duch.) cultivar that was released by the Highland Agriculture Research Center, RDA, in 2013. This cultivar originated from a 2008 cross between 'Goha' and 'Elsinyo' and showed excellent ever-bearing characteristics including continuous a flowering habit under long-day and high temperature conditions. It was originally named 'Saebong No. 5' after examining its characteristics and productivity in summer culture from 2010 to 2013. After two regional adaptability tests in 2012, it was selected as an elite cultivar and renamed 'Yeolha'. The general characteristics of 'Yeolha' include a semi-spreading plant type, elliptic leaves, and strong vigor in growth. Its fruit is conical and red. T he s oluble s olids content of 'Yeolha' is 8 .6%, w hich is 0.6% h ig her than t hat of 'Flamenco', b ut f ruit hardness is lower than that of 'Flamenco'. The average fruit weight of 'Yeolha' is about 12.1 g and the marketable yield is $28,133kg{\cdot}ha^{-1}$, which is 117% higher than that of 'Flamenco'. 'Yeolha' is resistant against Fusarium wilt. In addition, 'Yeolha' is suitable for four-season cultivation as a high harvesting cultivar because it shows continuous flowering under long-day and high temperature conditions.
To investigate effects of deep tillage before planting on physicochemical properties of soil, growth and fruit characteristics in cultivation of watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris L. cv. 'Uriggul') under plastic film house, this study was conducted in cultivating field of Gochang Junbuk. pH in soil after harvest compared with soil before planting of watermelon had almost no change, but EC lowed greatly in the two treatments. Available phosphate concentration in the soil with the deep tillage treatment was lower, K concentration of exchangeable cation decreased greatly than these with conventional tillage treatment. In the growth at 27th day after planting plant, stem length to 10th node from the first node, leaf width with deep tillage treatment were longer, bearing node of the first and second flower and wilting degree were lower than these with conventional tillage treatment. In the growth of harvesting time, the stem length to 30th node from the first node with the deep tillage treatment were longer, leaf discoloration degree was lower than these with conventional tillage treatment. Also, the harvested fruits length, diameter, peel hardness, and weight were significantly better than these with conventional tillage treatment.
Four cultivar of astringent persimmon(Diospyros kaki L. Cheongdobansi, Sagkoksi, Gojongsi, and Hachiya) were evaluated for quality during 160 days storage in condition of air, 12%CO$_2$+3%CO$_2$, and 16%CO$_2$+ 3%CO$_2$at 0∼2$^{\circ}C$. In the fruits of Cheongdobansi, Sagkoksi, and Gojongsi cultivar, the soluble solids content did not change significantly during storage among treatment, but in the fruits of Hachiya cultivar it decreased during storage in the codition of high CO$_2$concentration. Fruits of Cheongdobansi and Sagkoksi, which were stored in higher CO$_2$concentration, had firmer hardness, less weight loss and decay, showed greater rentention of initial peel color, maintained best qulity than air-stored fruit, but had high tannin contents. And it was necessory to remove astringency for edible fruits.

In order to select excellent cross parents in strawberry breeding, 11 varieties were self-pollinated and tested their progenies. Among the 11 varieties, 'Akihime', 'Maehyang' and 'Seolhyang' showed superior in plant vigor, disease resistance and yield. Combining ability was tested using 15 progenies obtained from crosses between 3 selected varieties as seed parents and 5 varieties as pollen parents. Plant vigor was the strongest when 'Akihime' was used as a seed parent while ripening time tended to the fastest when 'Seolhyang' as a seed parent. Average fruit weight of the crosses 'Seolhyang' ${\times}$ 'Tochiotome', 'Seolhyang' ${\times}$ 'Geumhyang', 'Seolhyang' ${\times}$ 'Wongyo 3111' and 'Akihime' ${\times}$ 'Wongyo 3111' were above 18 g for marketable fruits. Fruit hardness was superior at crosses of 'Maehyang' as a seed parents to other crosses combinations, especially 'Maehyang' ${\times}$ 'Tochiotome'. Soluble solid contents (SSC) was not significantly different among cross combinations. The best cross combination for marketable yield was 'Akihime' ${\times}$ 'Wongyo 3111', followed by 'Seolhyang' ${\times}$ 'Geumhyang', 'Maehyang' ${\times}$ 'Geumhyang', 'Akihime' ${\times}$ 'Tochiotome', in order.

In the 21st century, information and communication technology (ICT) worldwide presents a new vision for agriculture. Time and place, as well as the high-tech industry, to overcome barriers to the fusion of the so-called "smart agriculture," are changing the agricultural landscape. Core container production in precision agriculture for mushroom cultivation, optimal temperature, humidity, irradiation, self-regulation of factors such as carbon dioxide, and environment for mushroom cultivation were adopted. Lentinula edodes (shiitake) is an edible mushroom native to East Asia, cultivated and consumed in many Asian countries. It is considered to be medicinal in certain practices of traditional medicine. We used different controlled light sources (Blue-Red-White-combined LED, blue LED, red LED, and fluorescent light) with different LED radiation intensities (1.5, 10.5, and $20.5{\mu}mol/m^2s$ for LEDs) to compare growth and development. Mushrooms were treated with light in a 12-hour-on/12-hour-off cycle, and maintained in a controlled room at $19{\sim}21^{\circ}C$, with 80~90% humidity, and an atmospheric $CO_2$ concentration of 1,000 ppm for 30 days. Growth and development differed with the LED source color and LED radiation intensity. Growth and development were the highest at $10.5{\mu}mol/m^2s$ of blue LED light. After harvesting the fruit bodies, we measured their weight and length, thickness of pileus and stipe, chromaticity, and hardness. The $10.5{\mu}mol/m^2s$ blue-LED-irradiated group showed the best harvest results with an average individual weight of 39.82 g and length of 64.03 mm, pileus thickness of 30.85 mm and pileus length of 43.22 mm, and stipe thickness of 16.96 mm with fine chromaticity and hardness. These results showed that blue LED light at $10.5{\mu}mol/m^2s$ s exerted the best effect on the growth and development of L. edodes (shiitake) mushroom in the ICT-system container-type environment.
