To understand the phytoplankton community in the eastern part of the Yellow Sea (EYS), in the summer, field survey was conducted at 25 stations in June 2009, and water samples were analyzed using a epifluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and HPLC method. The EYS could be divided into four areas by a cluster analysis, using phytoplankton group abundances: coastal mixing area, Anma-do area, transition water, and the central Yellow Sea. In the coastal mixing area, water column was well mixed vertically, and phytoplankton was dominated by diatoms, chrysophytes, dinoflagellates and nanoflagellates, showing high abundance ($>10^5\;cells\;l^{-1}$). In Anma-do coastal waters characterized by high dominance of dinoflagellates, high phytoplankton abundance and biomass separated from other coastal mixing area. The southeastern upwelling area was expanded from Jin-do to Heuksan-do, by a tidal mixing and coastal upwelling in the southern area of Manjae-do, and phytoplankton was dominated by benthic diatoms, nanoflagellates and Synechococcus group in this area. Phytoplankton abundance and biomass dominated by pico- and nanophytoplankton were low values in the transition waters and the central Yellow Sea. In the surface of the central Yellow Sea, high dominance of photosynthetic pigments, 19'-hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin and zeaxanthin implies that haptophytes and cyanobacteria could be the dominant group during the summer. These results indicate that the phytoplankton communities in the EYS were significantly affected by the formation of tidal front, thermal stratification, and coastal upwelling showing the differences of physical and chemical characteristics during the summer.
Injection Molding is the most effective process for mass production of plastic parts. The injection molding process is composed with several steps such as Filling, Packing, Holding, Cooling, Ejecting. Among them, filling and packing process should be considered carefully to improve accuracy of dimension, surface quality of plastic parts. Usually the quality above-mentioned is managed with weight of part after molding on the field. In this paper, a series of experiment for molding automotive front bumper was conducted with cavitity temperature sensor to optimize switch-over time(V-P switching), hot runner vale gate sequence time during filling and packing step for the purpose of uniform quality, weight at every molding. As a result, it was found that it is effective method to use temperature sensor in injection molding for quality control of plastic molding.
In this paper, p-n junction formation using screen-printed metalization and co-firing is used to fabricate high-efficiency solar cells on single- crystalline silicon substrates. In order to form high-quality contacts, co-firing of a screen-printed Ag grid on the front and Al on the back surface field is implemented. These contacts require low contact resistance, high conductivity, and good adhesion to achieve high efficiency. Before co-firing, a statistically designed experiment is conducted. After the experiment, a neural network (NN) trained by the error back-propagation algorithm is employed to model the crucial relationships between several input factors and solar cell efficiency. The trained NN model is also used to optimize the beltline furnace process through genetic algorithms.
The fine structural characteristics of the silk spinning apparatus in the titanoecid spiders Nurscia albofasciata have been examined by the field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). This titanoecid spiders have a pair of medially divided cribella just in front of the anterior spinnerets, and the surface of the cribellum is covered by hundred of tiny spigots which produce numerous cribellate silk fibrils. The cribellar silks are produced from the spigots of the sieve-like prate. and considered as a quite different sort of catching silk with dry-adhesive properties. The other types of the silk spigots were identified as follows: ampullate, pyriform and aciniform glands. Two pairs of major ampullate glands send secretory ductules to the anterior spinnerets, and another 1-2 pairs of minor ampullate glands supply the middle spinnerets. In addition, the pyriform glands send ductules to the anterior spinnerets, and two kinds of the aciniform spigots feed silk into the middle (A type) and the posterior spinnerets (both of A & B types), respectively.
Despite extensive research efforts, the mechanism of the nucleate boiling phenomena is still not clear. A direct numerical simulation of the boiling phenomena is one of the promising approaches in order to clarify its heat transfer characteristics and discuss their mechanism. Therefore, many DNS procedures have been developed based on recent highly advancing computer technologies. This brief review focuses on the state of the art in direct numerical simulation of the pool boiling phenomena over the past two decades. In this review, the fundamentals of the boiling phenomena and the bubble departure and micro-layer models are briefly introduced, and then the numerical procedures for tracking or capturing interface/surface shape such as the front tracking method, level set method, volume of fluid treatments, and other methods (Lattice Boltzmann method, phase-field method and so on) are briefly reviewed.
This paper explored the results of experimental investigation on carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite sample with thermal wave technique. The thermal wave technique combines the advantages of both conventional thermal wave measurement and thermography using a commercial Infrared camera. The sample comprises the artificial inclusions of foreign material to simulate defects of different shape and size at different depths. Lock-in thermography is employed for the detection of defects. The temperature field of the front surface of sample was observed and analysed at several excitation frequencies ranging from 0.562 Hz down to 0.032 Hz. Four-point methodology was applied to extract the amplitude and phase of thermal wave's harmonic component. The phase images are analyzed to find qualitative and quantitative information about the defects.
This study describes the results of aging characteristics of polymer insulators through the tracking wheel test. In order to evaluate the reliability of polymer insulators, 4 polymer insulators which used in the field were selected. Electrical tests such as power frequency voltage test, steep-front impulse voltage test were performed after tracking wheel test. Chemical structure and contact angle were measured for investigating an aging characteristics. Although some changes have occurred on the surface of insulator, there are no critical changes between new and tracking wheel tested insulator.
A new flow model is developed for the analysis of compression molding of sheet molding compounds(SMC) and penalty finite element formulation is presented to predict flow front progressions more accurately. In this model SMC is assumed nonisothermal fluid, which has different viscosities in extension and in shear. The flow is allowed to slip at the mold and is resisted by friction force which is proportional to the relative velocity at mold surface. For the verification of the model, the press force and flow patterns are compared with those of experiments and available results by other works in this field. It is also demonstrated, using the computational procedure described and the proposed model, that optimal initial charge shapes for the filling can be effectively computed.
Stress intensity factor of semi-circular crack front was calculated by FEM, and also allowable crack size which doesn‘t break out the fracture by SCC in residual stress field of STS materials. Allowable crack size was increased with compressive residual stress provided by shot peening on material surface, and with magnitude of compressive residual stress for depth direction.
