  • It was revealed that leaching of elements were partly inhibited because seawater contains plenty of dissolved ions than fresh water. On the other hands, the low activity coefficient and the formation of complex with chloride and sulfate play roles in enhancing element leachability. However, the pH buffaring capacity of seawater is the most important factor that makes the leaching of elements and its chemical behavior in the seawater system different from those in the fresh water environments. In general, the leaching from the weathered ash was smaller than that from the fresh ash. However, it was revealed that the leaching of Si, Fe, Al, Mn, phosphate, and some other elements were independent of ash weathering. They were dependant only on the pH of the solutions.

  • We investigated the leaching of elements from anthracite ashes by interactions with seawater. The results show that consumption rates of dissolved oxygen are 7.5 times greater in the seawater system than in the fresh water system and indicate that the differences in DO consumption rate may plat a role in regulating the element leaching from the coal ashes. It is revealed that seawater's pH buffering capacity is the most important factor that makes the leaching of elements and their chemical behaviors in the seawater system different from those in the fresh water environments. In overall, element leaching from the weathered ash is smaller than that from the fresh ash. However, the leaching of Si, Fe, Al, Mn, phosphate, and some other elements were independent of weathering. They were dependant only on the pH of the solutions.

  • 유기물(볏짚)의 병용과 부숙이 탄산석회에 의한 갯흙의 제염에주는 영향을 밝히기 위하여 컬럼시험을 한 결과는 아래와 같다. 1. 볏짚과 탄산석회를 미리 시용하여 부숙시켰을 경우는 투수속도가 빨라졌으나 석고처리에는 미치지 못했으며, 제염(Na) 효과는 $CaCO_3$단용 또는 $CaCO_3$+볏짚분(미부숙)을 따르지 못하였다. 부식된 볏짚에 흡착되어 제염이 늦어진 것으로 판단되었다. 2. Na와 Mg를 치환 침출하기에 충분하지 못한(1/3) $CaCO_4$를 시용했을 경우와 $CaCO_3$만을 시용했을 경우는 표층에 Mg를 집적시키고 그 직하층에서 Mg 를 용탈하여 아랫층에 집적시켰으니, 볏짚분이 병용된 처리에서는 이런 용탈현상없이 물리세탈만이 일어났다. 3. $Na^+$의 제염은 세탈용액의 염농도와 비례하는 것으로 보여서, 상충토가 세탈되여 하충토양용액의 염농도가 높아졌을 경우는 염농도가 높아진 층에서 $Na^+$의 치환제거가 많다. 이 말은 염류의 공급원이 세탈되면 표층토의 Na제염이 부진하다는 것을 의미한다.

Estimation of Rice Growth Using RADARSTA-2 SAR Images at Seosan Region

  • Radar remote sensing is appropriate for monitoring rice because the areas where this crop is cultivated are often cloudy and rainy. Especially, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) can acquire remote sensing information with a high temporal resolution in tropical and subtropical regions due to its all-weather capability. This paper analyzes the relationships between backscattering coefficients of rice measured by RADARSAT-2 SAR and growth parameters during a rice growth period. We examined the temporal variations of backscattering coefficients with full polarization. Backscattering coefficients for all polarizations increased until Day Of Year (DOY 222) and then decreased along with Leaf Area Index (LAI), fresh weight, and Vegetation Water Content (VWC). Vertical transmit and Vertical receive polarization (VV)-polarization backscattering coefficients were higher than Horizontal transmit and Horizontal receive polarization (HH)-polarization backscattering coefficients in early rice growth stage and HH-polarization backscattering coefficients were higher than VV-polarization backscattering coefficients after effective tillering stage (DOY 186). Correlation analysis between backscattering coefficients and rice growth parameters revealed that HH-polarization was highly correlated with LAI, fresh weight, and VWC. Based on the observed relationships between backscattering coefficients and variables of cultivation, prediction equations were developed using the HH-polarization backscattering coefficients.

제초제 oxadiazon의 토양 흡탈착에 미치는 유기물의 함량과 산화환원효소의 영향 (Effects of soil organic matter and oxidoreductase on adsorption and desorption of herbicide oxadiazon in soils)

  • 유기물의 함량이 상이한 두 토양에서 제초제 oxadiazon의 소실, 흡착 및 탈착 양상을 알아보고 토양유기물과 결합되는 기작을 알기 위하여 산화환원촉매인 laccase를 이용하여 humic monomer와의 반응성을 규명하였다. Oxadiazon의 토양중에서 소실되는 반감기는 Soil I과 Soil II에서 각각 38일 및 45일로 나타나 유기물이 많은 토양에서 반감기가 더 짧았다. Oxadiazon의 흡착양상은 Freundlich식에 잘 부합하였으며 Freundlich 홉착계수 k값은 Soil I과 Soil II 에서 각각 31.79 및 22.50으로 유기물을 제거한 토양의 1.28 및 3.60에 비해 매우 크게 나타났다. 효소의 첨가에 의한 oxadiazon의 흡착량은 효소를 첨가하지 않은 시험구에 비해 Soil I과 Soil II에서 각각 17.1% 및 9.3% 증가하였으나, 유기물을 제거한 토양에서는 효소 첨가의 영향이 나타나지 않았다. 흡착된 oxadiazon의 탈착율은 Soil I과 Soil II에서 각각 51.1% 및 58.5%로 유기물을 제거한 토양의 88.3% 및 84.6%에 비해 낮았다. 효소가 처리된 토양에 흡착된 oxadiazon의 탈착율은 유기물을 제거시킨 토양에서는 차이가 없었으나 유기물을 제거하지 않은 토양에서는 감소하였다. Oxadiazon은 Myceliophthera thermophila로부터 분리된 산화환원효소인 laccase와 단독으로 반응하였을 때는 거의 전환되지 않았으나 humic monomers인 catechol, guaiacol 및 gallic acid 등이 있을 때는 $20{\sim}24%$ 수준으로 전환되었다.

토양중(土壤中) 제초제(除草劑) Bentazon 잔류물(殘留物)의 콩과 무우에 의한 흡수(吸收) (Uptake of the Residues of the Herbicide Bentazon in Soil by Soybean and Radish)

  • 토양중(土壤中)에 존재(存在)하는 제초제(除草劑) Bentazon 잔류량(殘留量)이 농작물(農作物)에 의하여 어느 정도 흡수(吸收)되는지를 구명(究明)하기 위하여 $^{14}C-Bentazon$을 재배(栽培) 직전(直前)에 처리(處理)한 토양(Fresh Bentazon 토양)과 추출(抽出)이 불가능(不可能)한 토양흡착(土壤吸着) 잔류물(殘留物)함 형태(形態)의 $^{14}C-Bentazon$을 함유한 토양(Bound Bentazon 토양)에 콩과 무우를 심고 28일간 생육(生育)시켜 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. $^{14}C-Bentazon$을 토양에 처리하고 6개월 동안 전배양(前培養(pre-incubation))하는 동안 발생된 총 $^{14}CO_2$량(量)은 처리 방사능의 14.79% 이었다. 2. 28일간 작물(作物)을 재배하는 동안 토양 중의 $^{14}C-Bentazon$$^{14}CO_2$로 무기화(無機化)되는 량(量)은 Bound Bentazon 토양보다 Fresh Bentazon토양에서 훨씬 많았으며 콩에서보다 무우에 있어서 훨씬 많았다. 3. 콩과 무우에 의하여 흡수된 $^{14}C-Bentazon$ 및 그 대사산물의 량(量)은 Fresh Bentazon 토양에서 각각 45.41%와 21.48%이었으며 Bound Bentazon 토양에서는 각각 3.92%와 1.23%이 었다. 흡수(吸收)된 방사능(放射能)이 뿌리로부터 지상부(地上部)로 이행(移行)되는 비률(比率)은 콩에서보다 무우에 있어서 훨씬 높았다. 4. 콩과 무우에 의하여 흡수(吸收)된 Fresh Bentazon 대(對) Bound Bentazon의 비율은 각각 12 : 1과 17 : 1 이었다. 5. 작물(作物)의 존재(存在)는 $^{14}C-Bentazon$$^{14}CO_2$로의 무기화(無機化)와 극성대사산물(極性代謝産物)로의 변화를 증진(增進)시킴이 입증(立證)되었다.

나물용 엉겅퀴의 근권에서 Arbuscular 균근균의 분포 (Distribution of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi in the Rhizosphere of Cirsium japonicum DC. for Wild Vegetables)

  • of Hangalku per plant sold for wild vegetables were 9.1g and 0.9g, and number of leaves was 10.8. Root fresh and dry weights of Hangalku per plant were 19.2g and 4.1g. Thirty five soil samples were collected from the native soils grown Cirsium japonicum DC., and mycorrhizal spores in soils were separated using wet-sieving methods. Number of mycorrhizal spores per 30g fresh soil sized over 500${\mu}$m, 355~500${\mu}$m, 251~354${\mu}$m, 107~250${\mu}$m and 45~106${\mu}$m were 0.6, 2.1, 6.0, 55.3 and 126, etc. Total number of mycorrhizal spores per 30g fresh soil were 190. Root infection by vesicles, hyphae and arbuscules were 13%, 4% and 3%, respectively. As a result of identification, mass propagated mycorrhizal spores by the host plant of Sudangrass were Glomus sp., Gigaspora sp., and Acaulospora sp., and so on.

Co-treatment with Origanum Oil and Thyme Oil Vapours Synergistically Limits the Growth of Soil-borne Pathogens Causing Strawberry Diseases

  • Vapours from origanum oil (O) and thyme oil (T) were applied to the four soil-borne strawberry pathogens Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. fragariae, Colletotrichum fructicola, Lasiodiplodia theobromae, and Phytophthora cactorum, causing Fusarium wilt, anthracnose, dieback, and Phytophthora rot, respectively. Increasing T vapour doses in the presence of O vapour strongly inhibited mycelial growths of the four pathogens and vice versa. When mycelia of F. oxysporum f. sp. fragariae and P. cactorum exposed to the combined O + T vapours were transferred to the fresh media, mycelial growth was restored, indicating fungistasis by vapours. However, the mycelial growth of C. fructicola and L. theobromae exposed to the combined O + T vapours have been slightly retarded in the fresh media. Prolonged exposure of strawberry pathogens to O + T vapours in soil environments may be suggested as an alternative method for eco-friendly disease management.

Effects of organic fertilizers mixed with dehydrated food waste powder on agronomic performance of leafy vegetables

  • Castor oil cake is widely used as a raw material for organic fertilizers (OF) in Korea. Compared to other fertilizer raw materials, it is highly dependent on imports. In terms of replacing raw materials, dehydrated food waste powder (FDP) and castor oil cake have similar nutritional content, and if 30% is replaced, about 20% of the raw material cost can be saved. However, few studies on the effects on crop growth and soil properties when organic fertilizer and dry food waste powder are mixed and applied to the soil have been reported. The effects of an organic fertilizer made by mixing the commercial available organic fertilizer with dehydrated food waste (OF + FDP) on soil properties and the growth of two types of leafy vegetables (lettuce and young radish) were evaluated and compared with the performance of OF. The fresh weights of lettuce and young radish were the highest with OF amendment and stood at 114.3 and 119.0 g·plant-1, respectively. These were followed by OF + FDP amendment, which produced 103.1 and 109.6 g·plant-1, respectively. Compared to the control, OF and OF + FDP increased the lettuce fresh weights by about 69% and 52%, respectively, while the fresh weights of the radish were increased by about 223% and 207%, respectively. The soil pH, EC, total carbon content, and organic matter content in OF and OF + FDP increased. The mixture of dehydrated food waste powder and organic fertilizers is expected to improve soil quality and facilitate stable production of crops and contribute to the substitution of imported organic fertilizer raw materials.
