  • The first reduction peak of the cyclic voltammogram (CV) for sulfur reduction in dimethyl sulfoxide has been studied using time resolved Fourier transform electrochemical impedance spectroscopic (FTEIS) analysis of small potential step chronoamperometric currents. The FTEIS analysis results reveal that the impedance signals obtained during short potential steps can be resolved into electron transfer reactions of two different time constants in a high frequency region. The FTEIS method provides snap shots of impedance profiles during an earlier phase of the reaction, leading to time resolved EIS measurements. Our results obtained by the FTEIS analysis are consistent with a series of electron transfer and chemical equilibrium steps of a complex reaction, making up an ECE (electrochemical-chemical-electrochemical) mechanism postulated from the results of computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we proposed the compensation structures for the enhanced directivity of CPW(Coplanar waveguide) directional couplers with finite-extent backed conductor. The proposed compensation structures are. realized by expanding the slot width between signal line and ground plane in center region of couplers. The CPW couplers with expanded slot have the same phase velocity for even and odd mode because of added inductance and changed capacitance appropriately, so the enhanced directivity is accomplished. The designed CPW directional couplers have good directivity and matching characteristic at center frequency in simulation and measurement.

  • With the Korean VLBI Network (KVN), both single dish and VLBI monitoring observations of H2O and SiO masers were performed toward the semi-regular variable star R Crateris. In the case of 11 VLBI monitoring observations from Jan. 5, 2014 to Jan. 7, 2016, successful superposed maps of H2O and SiO masers were obtained at 7 epochs by adopting the Source Frequency Phase Referencing (SFPR) method. These results enable us to investigate the development of outflow and asymmetric motions from SiO maser to H2O maser regions according to stellar pulsation which are closely related with a mass-loss process. Single dish monitoring observations of H2O and SiO masers were also carried out from 2009 June to 2016 Feb. Intensity variations between H2O and SiO masers were investigated according to stellar optical phases together with peak velocity variations with respect to the stellar velocity. We will compare the VLBI results among different maser transitions with those of single dish.

  • In this work, the freestanding GaN single crystalline substrates without cracks were grown by hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE). The GaN substrates, having a current maximum size of 350 $\mu\textrm{m}$-thickness and 10${\times}$10 $\textrm{mm}^2$ area, were obtained by HVPE growth GaN on sapphire substrate and subsequent mechanical removal of the sapphire substrate. A lattice constant of c$\_$0/=5.18486 ${\AA}$ and a FWHM of DCXRD was 650 arcsec for the single crystalline freestanding GaN substrate. The low temperature PL spectrum consist of excitonic emission and deep donor to acceptor pair recombination at 1.8 eV. The Raman E$_2$ (high) mode frequency was 567 cm$\^$-1/ which was the same as that of strain free bulk single crystals. The Hall mobility and carrier concentration was 283 $\textrm{cm}^2$/V$.$sec and 1.1${\times}$10$\^$18/ cm$\^$-3/, respectively. The freestanding and crack-free GaN single crystalline substrate suitable for the homoepitaxial growth of GaN, and the HVPE method are promising approaches for the preparation of large area, crack-free GaN substrates.

  • The present paper is to investigate the phase stability and soft magnetic properties of amorphous CoNbZr films when Pd is added as a substitution for CoNbZr alloys. The films were prepared by a RF magnetron sputtering method. The CoNbZrPd films deposited on Si wafers exhibited amorphous structures being independent upon the amount of Pd added in the films. On the addition of 4.34% Pd, the excellent soft magnetic characteristics of the films were observed with a coercive force of 0.54 Oe and an anisotropy field of 11 Oe, whereas a coercive force of 1 Oe and an anisotropy field of 3.5 Oe were shown in the film without the addition of Pd. The increased anisotropy field and low coercive force of the films may be attributed to the occupancy of Pd in the preferred sites parallel to the external magnetic field applied on the deposition process. A permeability of about 1100 was kept constant in the operation frequency ranging up to 100 MHz, which can be explained by the Landau-Lifshitz formula.

  • In this paper effective methods of demodulation and equalization in a 9600 bps modem have been studied. To reduce the number of multiplications required per symbol in demodula-tion, the method of using a decimation filter is presented. In the equalizer the optimum step size and the steady state mean-squared error (MSE) are obtained from computer simulation results. The performance of the first-order carrier phase tracking loop is compared with that of the second-order loop when carrier frequency offset exists. In addition, the finite word length effects in the equalizer are studied.

  • This paper presents the radiation rate formula due of a inclusion of a series capacitor and shunt inductor in a unit cell for the right/left-handed transmission line (RLH-TL). The equivalent circuit for a RLH unit cell considering radiation effects is presented and analyzed in terms of the Bloch impedance and dispersion diagram. It has been found that when two radiation rates are identical, the Blockimpedance reduces to the characteristic impedance of the host conventional RH-TL. Besides, design equations for a unit cell for a specific phase shift at a given frequency are provided. The method of realizing uniform excitation along the RLH-TL is also proposed for antenna applications.

  • In this paper, a temperature controller for a semiconductor test handler is proposed. First, a handware system for identification and control is established using RTD sensors, an A/D converter, solid state relays, a heater, and a computer system. Second, using ARMAX model and least square method, a chamber model for the design of a controller is identified through experiments. The identified model is verified to describe the real plant very well in the sense that it shows very similar input-output responses to those of the real system. With the identified model an LQG controller is designed. Frequency response of the designed controller shows that it has 15 dB of gainmargin and (-50˚, +50˚) of phase margin. Experiment with a real test handler demonstrates a good performance in the sense that its overshoot and steady state error are smaller and response time is faster, compared with those of a conventional PID controller.

  • Wireless communication systems are inevitable for efficient underwater activities. Because of the poor propagation characteristics of light and electromagnetic waves, acoustic waves are generally used for the underwater wireless communication. Although there are many kinds of information type, visual images take an essential role especially for search and identification activities. For this reason, we developed an acoustic-based underwater image transmission system under a dual use technology project supported by MOCIE (Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy). For the application to complicated and time-varying underwater environments all-digital transmitter and receiver systems are investigated. Array acoustic transducers are used at the receiver, which have the center frequency of 32kHz and the bandwidth of 4kHz. To improve transmission speed and quality, various algorithms and systems are used. The system design techniques will be discussed in detail including image compression/ decompression system, adaptive beam- forming, fast RLS adaptive equalizer, ${\partial}/4$ QPSK (Quadrilateral Phase Shift Keying) modulator/demodulator, and convolution coding/ Viterbi. Decoding.

  • The microwave dielectric properties of $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3TiO_2$ ceramics were investigated. All samples were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties were investigated with sintering temperature by X-ray Diffractor meter. According to. the X-ray diffraction patterns of the $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3TiO_2$ ceramics, major phase of the hexagonal $Mg_4Ta_2O_9$ were appeared. In the case of $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3TiO_2$ ceramics sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$, dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 11.72, 126,419GHz, $-31.82ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.
