  • The vibration characteristic of tires is one of very important issues which heavily affect the noise and comfort on driving. Therefore, when the new tire is designed, the vibration characteristic of tire should be considered. In this paper, the vibration characteristic of non-pneumatic tire is investigated for geometric of NPT which is designed by cell angle of spoke. The analysis is based on the finite element method and used ABAQUS program, which is able to non-linear analysis. The material of NPT is used for the Ogden energy model, which is model of hyperelastic material. This paper investigate natural frequency and modal of NPT and compare result of NPT with it of pneumatic tire.

  • During thermal power coal-fired boiler operation, it is very important to detect the pulverized coal concentration in the air pipeline for the boiler combustion stability and economic security. Because the current measurement methods used by power plants are often involved with large measurement errors and unable to monitor the pulverized coal concentration in real-time, a new method is needed. In this paper, a new method based on microwave circular waveguide is presented. High Frequency Electromagnetic Simulation (HFSS) software was used to construct a simulation model for measuring pulverized coal concentration in power plant pipeline. Theoretical analysis and simulation experiments were done to find the effective microwave emission frequency, installation angle, the type of antenna probe, antenna installation distance and other important parameters. Finally, field experiment in Jilin Thermal Power Plant proved that with selected parameters, the measuring device accurately reflected the changes in the concentration of pulverized coal.

  • An analysis of the Poisson's ratios influence of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) based on Sander's shell theory is carried out. The effect of Poisson's ratio, boundary conditions and different armchairs SWCNTs is discussed and studied. The Galerkin's method is applied to get the eigen values in matrix form. The obtained results shows that, the decrease in ratios of Poisson, the frequency increases. Poisson's ratio directly measures the deformation in the material. A high Poisson's ratio denotes that the material exhibits large elastic deformation. Due to these deformation frequencies of carbon nanotubes increases. The frequency value increases with the increase of indices of single walled carbon nanotubes. The prescribe boundary conditions used are simply supported and clamped simply supported. The Timoshenko beam model is used to compare the results. The present method should serve as bench mark results for agreeing the results of other models, with slightly different value of the natural frequencies.

  • In this paper, we propose an alternative analysis to regulate DC motors using a PID controller with a gain scaling factor. We start by providing a systematic design method for selecting the PID gains of our proposed controller by seeing the effect of ϵ on damping ratio, overshoot and settling time from the frequency response analysis. With the help of matlab (simulink), We proceed to show that the proposed controller provides robust stability against system parameter uncertainty and the effect of the gain scaling factor on steady-state error. The validity of our control method along with the analysis is verified with the simulation results.

  • For the design of infrastructures controlling the flood events at ungauged basins, this study tries to find the regional flood frequencies using peak flow data generated by the spatial extension of flood records. The Chungju Dam watershed is selected to validate the possibility of regional flood frequency analysis using the spatially extended flood data. Firstly, based on the index flood method, the flood event data from the spatial extension method is evaluated for 22 mid/smaller sub-basins at the Chungju Dam watershed. The homogeneity of the Chungju dam watershed was assessed in terms of the different size of watershed conditions such as accumulated and individual sub-basins. Based on the result of homogeneity analysis, this watershed is heterogeneous with respect to individual sub-basins because of the heterogeneity of rainfall distribution. To decide the regional probability distribution, goodness-of fit measure and weighted moving averages method from flood frequency analysis were adopted. Finally, GEV distribution was selected as a representative distribution and regional quantile were estimated. This research is one step further method to estimate regional flood frequency for ungauged basins.

  • When we deal with grouped statistical data, it is desirable to use a calculation method that gives as close value to the true value of a statistic as possible. In this paper, we suggested a new method to calculate the quantiles of grouped data. The main idea of the suggested method is calculating the data values by partitioning the pentagons, that correspond to the class intervals in the frequency polygon drawn according to the histogram, into parts with equal area. We compared this method with existing methods through simulations using some datasets from introductory statistics textbooks. In the simulation study, we simulated as many data values as given in each class interval using the inverse transform method, on the basis of the distribution that has the shape given by the frequency polygon. Using the sum of squares of differences from quantiles of the simulated data as a criterion, the suggested method was found to have better performance than existing methods for almost all quartiles and deciles.

  • Seismic response of two dimensional liquid tanks is numerically simulated using fully nonlinear velocity potential theory. Galerkin-weighted-residual based finite element method is used for solving the governing Laplace equation with fully nonlinear free surface boundary conditions and also for velocity recovery. Based on mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian (MEL) method, fourth order explicit Runge-Kutta scheme is used for time integration of free surface boundary conditions. A cubic-spline fitted regridding technique is used at every time step to eliminate possible numerical instabilities on account of Lagrangian node induced mesh distortion. An artificial surface damping term is used which mimics the viscosity induced damping and brings in numerical stability. Four earthquake motions have been suitably selected to study the effect of frequency content on the dynamic response of tank-liquid system. The nonlinear seismic response vis-a-vis linear response of rectangular liquid tank has been studied. The impulsive and convective components of hydrodynamic forces, e.g., base shear, overturning base moment and pressure distribution on tank-wall are quantified. It is observed that the convective response of tank-liquid system is very much sensitive to the frequency content of the ground motion. Such sensitivity is more pronounced in shallow tanks.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-impedance changes localization method of on-voltage underground power cable using the wavelet transform based time-frequency domain reflectometry (WTFDR). To localize the impedance change in on-voltage power cable, the TFDR is the most suitable among reflectometries because the inductive coupler is used to inject the reference signal to the live cable. At this time, the actual on-voltage power cable has multi-impedance changes such as the automatic section switches and the auto load transfer switches. However, when the multi-impedance changes are generated in the close range, the conventional TFDR has the cross term interference problem because of the nonlinear characteristics of the Wigner-Ville distribution. To solve the problem, the wavelet transform (WT) is used because it has the linearity. That is, using WTFDR, the cross term interference is not generated in multi-impedance changes due to the linearity of the WT. To confirm the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method, the actual experiments are carried out for the on-voltage underground power cable.

  • The existing tag based system deducts a retrieval result with low accuracy through the usage of a single tag matching by using tags tagged in contents. And the system doesn't provide effectively contents related information which the tags have, as the users place tags on contents without considering the priority and associative relation between tags. For a solve of above problems, this paper suggests a tag ranking system which extracts semantic similarity between tags and re-ranks the tags tagged in contents. In order to evaluate the performance of suggested system, this paper experiments and compares the ranking result of this paper's tag ranking system with the result of baseline method using tags tagged in images and frequency method adapting tag co-appearance frequency.

  • Wind turbine structures are long slender columns with a rotor and blade assembly placed on the top. These slender structures vibrate due to dynamic environmental forces and its own dynamics. Analysis of the dynamic behavior of wind turbines is fundamental to the stability, performance, operation and safety of these systems. In this paper a simplied approach is outlined for free vibration analysis of these long, slender structures taking the soil-structure interaction into account. The analytical method is based on an Euler-Bernoulli beam-column with elastic end supports. The elastic end-supports are considered to model the flexible nature of the interaction of these systems with soil. A closed-form approximate expression has been derived for the first natural frequency of the system. This new expression is a function of geometric and elastic properties of wind turbine tower and properties of the foundation including soil. The proposed simple expression has been independently validated using an exact numerical method, laboratory based experimental measurement and field measurement of a real wind turbine structure. The results obtained in the paper shows that the proposed expression can be used for a quick assessment of the fundamental frequency of a wind turbine taking the soil-structure interaction into account.
