Preference for Soybean-based Foods and Isoflavone Intake in Female Adults Living in Daegu (대구 지역 성인 여성의 대두식품 기호도와 이소플라본 섭취량)

  • This study investigated preferences toward soybean-based foods and levels of dietary isoflavone intake in female adults living in Daegu. In order to determine the subjects' attitudes toward soybean-based foods their degrees of recognition and preference along with intake frequency were examined. To estimate their isoflavone intake levels, a food frequency questionnaire and the 24-hour recall method were used. The average age, height, weight, and BMI of the subjects were 47.3 years, 159.6 cm, 56.4 kg, and 22.1 kg/$cm^2$, respectively. And their mean energy, protein, dietary fiber, calcium, and sodium intakes were 1,871.9 kcal, 81.1g, 23.2 g, 604.7 mg, and 5.07 g, respectively. The average amount of isoflavones consumed from soy foods was 29.49 mg/day(daidzein 13.14 mg/day and genistein 16.35 mg/day) as assessed by food frequency questionnaire, and by the 24-hour recall method the average amount was 22.97 mg/day (daidzein 10.10 mg/day and genistein 12.87 mg/day), showing that the food frequency questionnaire assessment amount was 6.52 mg higher than that by 24-hour recall method. The major food sources of the isoflavones were soybean paste and soybeans. For the subjects' degrees of recognition of soybean food, soybean paste received the highest score among the items. The results also showed that the most preferred soybean-based foods were soybean paste stew and soybean paste soup. Furthermore isoflavone intake was significantly higher in the postmenopausal women than in the premenopausal women. Overall, these data help elucidate the patterns and determinants of soy food consumption and also provide an assessment of dietary soy isoflavone intake in Korean women.

Design of the power generator system for photovoltaic modules

  • In this paper, a dc-dc power converter scheme with the FPGA based technology is proposed to apply for solar power system which has many features such as the good waveform, high efficiency, low switching losses, and low acoustic noises. The circuit configuration is designed by the conventional control type converter circuit using the isolated dc power supply. This new scheme can be more widely used for industrial power conversion system and many other purposes. Also, I proposed an efficient photovoltaic power interface circuit incorporated with a FPGA based DC-DC converter and a sine-pwm control method full-bridge inverter. The FPGA based DC-DC converter operates at high switching frequency to make the output current a sine wave, whereas the full-bridge inverter operates at low switching frequency which is determined by the ac frequency. As a result, we can get a 1.72% low THD in present state using linear control method. Moreover, we can use stepping control method, we can obtain the switching losses by Sp measured as 0.53W. This paper presents the design of a single-phase photovoltaic inverter model and the simulation of its performance.

  • We propose an efficient method for content-based ultrasound image retrieval using magnitude frequency spectra and implement a retrieval system based on the proposed method. The target images are ultrasound images of adult organs. Trained users often acquire such images so that images of the same kind of organs are very similar, although their locations may not exactly coincide. Therefore, the magnitude frequency spectrum, which has a translation-invariant property, is used as a feature. All the object images in the image DB is pre-classified in the same kind organs. Experimental results show that the proposed method is superior to some well-known conventional methods.

  • A numerical model based on a mode method coupling beams and a rectangular plate is proposed to estimate radiation characteristics of an edge-clamped rectangular plate. The radiation efficiency and radiation power in the audio frequency range including the critical frequency can be predicted. The proposed model is rather simple and straightforward and gives reliable results comparing to the previous studies. The estimated radiation characteristics are compared to those of the pinned condition plates and also to those based on the formulae proposed by Maidanik. The radiation efficiency of the clamped plate seems a little higher than that of the pinned plate in the frequency range of corner and edge modes. It is explicitly shown that the power as well as efficiency at high frequencies is not influenced by these edge boundary conditions.

Structural damage detection based on MAC flexibility and frequency using moth-flame algorithm

  • Vibration-based structural damage detection through optimization algorithms and minimization of objective function has recently become an interesting research topic. Application of various objective functions as well as optimization algorithms may affect damage diagnosis quality. This paper proposes a new damage identification method using Moth-Flame Optimization (MFO). MFO is a nature-inspired algorithm based on moth's ability to navigate in dark. Objective function consists of a term with modal assurance criterion flexibility and natural frequency. To show the performance of the said method, two numerical examples including truss and shear frame have been studied. Furthermore, Los Alamos National Laboratory test structure was used for validation purposes. Finite element model for both experimental and numerical examples was created by MATLAB software to extract modal properties of the structure. Mode shapes and natural frequencies were contaminated with noise in above mentioned numerical examples. In the meantime, one of the classical optimization algorithms called particle swarm optimization was compared with MFO. In short, results obtained from numerical and experimental examples showed that the presented method is efficient in damage identification.

Mixing matrix estimation method for dual-channel time-frequency overlapped signals based on interval probability

  • For dual-channel time-frequency (TF) overlapped signals with low sparsity in underdetermined blind source separation (UBSS), this paper proposes an effective method based on interval probability to estimate and expand the types of mixing matrices. First, the detection of TF single-source points (TF-SSP) is used to improve the TF sparsity of each source. For more distinguishability, as the ratios of the coefficients from different columns of the mixing matrix are close, a local peak-detection mechanism based on interval probability (LPIP) is proposed. LPIP utilizes uniform subintervals to optimize and classify the TF coefficient ratios of the detected TF-SSP effectively in the case of a high level of TF overlap among sources and reduces the TF interference points and redundant signal features greatly to enhance the estimation accuracy. The simulation results show that under both noiseless and noisy cases, the proposed method performs better than the selected mainstream traditional methods, has good robustness, and has low algorithm complexity.

  • A new controller design algorithm based on the Hessenberg form for linear control systems has een proposed. The controller is composed of the dynamic compensator and the state feedback (dynamic state feedback). The algorithm gives a simple way to assign the eigenstructure (eigenvalues and eigenvectors) of the closed loop system and it also provides a method to assign the frequency shapes near the corner frequencies of the closed loop transfer function matrix. Because of this property, the algorithm is called the independent frequency shape control (IFSC) method.

Stability Analysis of FCHEV Energy System Using Frequency Decoupling Control Method

  • Fuel cell (FC) is a promising power supply in electric vehicles (EV); however, it has poor dynamic performance and short service life. To address these shortcomings, a super capacitor (SC) is adopted as an auxiliary power supply. In this study, the frequency decoupling control method is used in electric vehicle energy system. High-frequency and low-frequency demand power is provided by SC and FC, respectively, which makes full use of two power supplies. Simultaneously, the energy system still has rapidity and reliability. The distributed power system (DPS) of EV requires DC-DC converters to achieve the desired voltage. The stability of cascaded converters must be assessed. Impedance-based methods are effective in the stability analysis of DPS. In this study, closed-loop impedances of interleaved half-bridge DC-DC converter and phase-shifted full-bridge DC-DC converter based on the frequency decoupling control method are derived. The closed-loop impedance of an inverter for permanent magnet synchronous motor based on space vector modulation control method is also derived. An improved Middlebrook criterion is used to assess and adjust the stability of the energy system. A theoretical analysis and simulation test are provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the energy management system and the control method.

  • The method of vocal tract normalization has been known as a successful method for improving the accuracy of speech recognition. A frequency warping procedure based low complexity and maximum likelihood has been generally applied for vocal tract normalization. In this paper, we propose a new power spectrum warping procedure that can be improve on vocal tract normalization performance than a frequency warping procedure. A mechanism for implementing this method can be simply achieved by modifying the power spectrum of filter bank in Mel-frequency cepstrum feature(MFCC) analysis. Experimental study compared our Proposal method with the well-known frequency warping method. The results have shown that the power spectrum warping is better 50% about the recognition performance than the frequency warping.

  • This paper presents a method to analyze the voltage sag data obtained from monitoring systems. In order to establish effective countermeasures against voltage sag problems, an assessment of the system performance with respect to voltage sags is needed. Generally, the average annual sag frequency can be estimated by using the recorded voltage sag events for several years. However, the simple average value can not give the information about the errors of estimation. Such an average estimation is not useful for establishing effective solutions for voltage sag problems. Therefore, this paper proposes an effective method based on the Interval Estimation method. The estimation of voltage sag frequency is performed by using the average frequency and Poisson probability model. The proposed method can give the expected annual sag frequency and upper one-sided bound frequency.
