The available underwater acoustic spectrum is limited. Therefore, it is imperative to avoid frequency interference from overlapping frequencies of underwater acoustic equipment (UAE) for the co-existence of the UAE. Cognitive technology that senses idle spectrum and actively avoids frequency interference is an efficient method to facilitate the collision-free operation of multiple UAE with overlapping frequencies. Cognitive technology is adopted to identify the frequency usage of UAE to apply cognitive technology. To this end, we investigated two principle underwater acoustic sources: UAE and marine animals. The UAE is classified into five types: underwater acoustic modem, acoustic positioning system, multi-beam echo-sounder, side-scan sonar, and sub-bottom profiler. We analyzed the parameters of the frequency band, directivity, range, and depth, which play a critical role in the design of underwater acoustic cognitive technology. Moreover, the frequency band of several marine species was also examined. The mid-frequency band from 10 - 40 kHz was found to be the busiest. Lastly, this study provides useful insights into the design of underwater acoustic cognitive technologies, where it is essential to avoid interference among the UAE in this mid-frequency band.
In order to control interference and improve spectrum efficiency in the femtocell and macrocell overlaid system (FMOS), we propose a joint frequency bandwidth dynamic division, clustering and power control algorithm (JFCPA) for orthogonal-frequency-division-multiple access-based downlink FMOS. The overall system bandwidth is divided into three bands, and the macro-cellular coverage is divided into two areas according to the intensity of the interference from the macro base station to the femtocells, which are dynamically determined by using the JFCPA. A cluster is taken as the unit for frequency reuse among femtocells. We map the problem of clustering to the MAX k-CUT problem with the aim of eliminating the inter-femtocell collision interference, which is solved by a graph-based heuristic algorithm. Frequency bandwidth sharing or splitting between the femtocell tier and the macrocell tier is determined by a step-migration-algorithm-based power control. Simulations conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm showed the frequency-reuse probability of the FMOS reuse band above 97.6% and at least 70% of the frequency bandwidth available for the macrocell tier, which means that the co-tier and the cross-tier interference were effectively controlled. Thus, high spectrum efficiency was achieved. The simulation results also clarified that the planning of frequency resource allocation in FMOS should take into account both the spatial density of femtocells and the interference suffered by them. Statistical results from our simulations also provide guidelines for actual FMOS planning.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the performance of MB-OFDM UWB system when the interference signal that can be WIMAX signal or 4 G system signal is received by detection limit of -80 dBm/MHz proposed in Korea for DAA(Detect And Avoid) to permit UWB in $3.1{\sim}4.8$ GHz. MB-OFDM UWB system supports two transmission modes; one is TFI(Time frequency Interleaving) mode that transmits OFDM symbols using different carrier frequency from symbol to symbol according to Time Frequency(TF) codes, the other is FFI(Fixed Frequency Interleaving) mode that transmits OFDM symbols using a specific carrier frequency. In this paper, we considered the TX average power and the synchronization structure to reflect the effect of frequency hopping according to TFC. Interference analysis results show that the WiMAX system is fenced thoroughly from UWB interference in domestic DAA regulation, but the performance of MB-OFDM UWB system is degraded seriously by an interference signal with the DAA detection limit even in frequency Hopping mode that can get frequency diversity effect.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique uses multiple sub-carriers for the data transmission. Therefore, Inter Carrier Interference(ICI) is generated because of nonlinear high power amplifier and carrier frequency offset. Wireless OFDM transmission over Doppler fading channels also causes ICI. In OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access), multiple sub-carriers are allocated to each user. Therefore, inter carrier interference causes interference to other users. I evaluate the BER performance of OFDMA systems in frequency selective fading channel, considering Multi-User Interference (MUI) owing to the carrier frequency offset, the nonlinear high power amplifier, and the Doppler fading. In the uplink OFDMA, multi-user interference introduces larger BER degradation than in the downlink. I explain the reason and obtain the required characteristics of the nonlinear amplifier and the value of frequency offset for good BER performance. And I also analyze the BER degradation upon Doppler fading channel.

By virtue of Rec. ITU-R P.1546 and geography information system, interference analysis for the fixed wireless system and radar has been presented based upon the frequency-distance rules with minimum coupling loss, and a comprehensive methodology for assessing interoperability between systems was examined in terms of received signal, protection ratio, frequency dependent rejection. Also to find the antenna gain from a discrimination angle, a useful S-I plane was introduced based on signal and interference vectors derived from the real map with geographic information. To show some computational results, geography information on the map was taken for the given area, and field strength and path profile were illustrated for the radar and fixed wireless system operating at 2.7 GHz, for convenience. In addition the interference effect of receiver was also checked as a function of radar beam direction including protection ratio and frequency dependent rejection. The developed interference analysis can be actually applied to evaluate interoperability for wireless systems in the VHF and UHF bands.

In this paper, we proposed the methodology of interference analysis based on monte-carlo method for effective use of Industrial, Scientific, Medical (ISM) band. The interference scenario is divided according to the distance and density. The simulation of interference analysis evaluates the interference probability according to distribution density of Interfering Transmitters (It) in the Secure Interference Area (SIA). The SIA is gained from the Interference Efficiency Range that satisfied to Interference Permissible Range of Victim Receiver (Vr). Simulation result that apply the proposed interference scenario to the WLAN and bluetooth, Interference Permissible Range was 60~400m. And the WLAN was acceptable within interference permissible range to six bluetooth that exist in the SIA. In the same condition, when applied Listen Before Talk (LBT) based on Cognitive Radio (CR) to the bluetooth using Frequency Hopping (FH), interference probability was decreased sharply. The Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT) that has been developed based on the monte-carlo method by European Radio-communications Office (ERO) were used to the interference simulation.

This paper proposes an analysis method of performance degradation of antenna due to radio frequency interference between an antenna and adjacent noise sources using active scattering parameters. The radio frequency interference can be analyzed by the measured or simulated scattering parameters and by excited noise sources in the circuit as well. In this paper, a planar inverted-F antenna and a noise source are designed and fabricated to analyze radio frequency interference between the planar inverted-F antenna and noise source. The proposed analysis method uses active scattering parameters, of which verification is experimentally verified, and in simulation as well.
In this paper, we analyze the performance of code division multiple access (CDMA) systems with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) that employ random spreading sequences in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. We obtain the probability density function (pdf) of the multiple access interference and extend the results to OFDM-CDMA systems to determine the pdf of multiple access and inter-carrier interference in terms of the number of users, the spreading length, the number of sub-carriers, and the frequency offset. We consider the synchronous downlink of cellular multi-carrier CDMA and derive a Gaussian approximation of the multiple access and inter-carrier interference. Overall the effect of frequency offset is shown to vary with the system loading. The analysis in this paper is critical for further development into fading channels and frequency selective multipath channels.
We present a fair and efficient solution for selfish readers with the Nash bargaining solution (NBS) to mitigate the effects of RFID frequency interference. We compare the NBS with a solution derived by the max log-sum scheme that maximizes total utility and show that for selfish and rational readers, the NBS brings success in bargaining on resource allocation between readers unlike the max log-sum scheme, although the NBS has less total payoff compared to the max log-sum scheme.

Ultra wideband (UWB) technologies have been developed to exploit a new spectrum resource in substances and to realize ultra-high-speed communication, high precision geo-location, and other applications. The energy of UWB signal is extremely spread from near DC (Direct Current) to a few GHz. This means that the interference between conventional narrowband systems and UWB systems is inevitable. However, the interference effects had not previously been studied from UWB wireless systems to conventional wireless systems sharing the frequency bands such as broadcasting system. This paper experimentally evaluates the interference from two kinds of UWB sources, namely an orthogonal frequency division multiplex UWB source and an impulse radio UWB source, to a broadcasting transmission system. The S/N ratio degradation of broadcasting system is presented. From these experimental results, we show that in all practical cases UWB system can be coexisted 35m distance in-band broadcasting network.
