  • DA-11004 is a synthetic, potent NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDPc) inhibitor where $IC_{50}$ for IDPc is 1.49 $\mu$M. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of DA-11004 on the high fat high sucrose (HF)-induced obesity in male C57BL/6J mice. After completing a 8-week period of experimentation, the mice were sacrificed 1hr after the last DA-11004 treatment and their blood, liver, and adipose tissues (epididymal and retroperitoneal fat)were collected. There was a significant difference in the pattern of increasing body weight between the HF control and the DA-11004 group. In the DA-11004 (100 mg/kg) treated group the increase in body weight significantly declined and a content of epididymal fat and retroperitoneal fat was also significantly decreased as opposed to the HF control. DA-11004 (100 mg/kg) inhibited the IDPc activity, and thus, NADPH levels in plasma and the levels of free fatty acid (FFA) or glucose in plasma were less than the levels of the HF control group. In conclusion, DA-11004 inhibited the fatty acid synthesis in adipose tissues via IDPc inhibition, and it decreased the plasma glucose levels and FFA in HF diet-induced obesity of C57BL/6J mice.

The lipid contents in marine by-products showed $40.5{\sim}48.0%$ on a dry weight basis and it consisted of $92.1{\sim}99.0%$ neutral lipid and $1.0{\sim}7.9%$ polar lipid such as phospholipid and glycolipid. The neutral lipids mainly consisted of triglyceride$(50.0{\sim}69.9%)$ and had free fatty acid, free sterol, esterified sterol and hydrocarbon, diglyceride, and monoglyceride in less quantity. Squid viscera oil showed higher content in polyenes such as 20:5 and 22:6 than by-product oil derived from fish processing. Viscera oil of squid caught off Newzealand(21.1%) was the highest on DHA composition, followed by that of squid caught off Falkland island(16.3%), hair tail by-product oil(13.9%), conger eel by-product oil(11.7%) and mackerel pike by-product oil(10.7%), in the order named. The major fatty acids in total lipid and neutral lipid of byproducts were generally 16:0, 18: 1n-9, 20:5n-3 and 22:6n-3.

  • The content of major constituents and antioxidant activities of two lavers (Pyropia seriata, Pyropia dentata) selected through breeding at different regions (Jangsan-do, Amtae-do, Dali-do, Jin-do, Muan) were compared in this study. The mineral contents of both cultivars were in the following order: K>Na>Mg>Ca>Fe>Zn>Mn>Cu. The content of major fatty acids was as follows: eicosapentaenoic acid>palmitic acid>arachidonic acid>dihomo-ɣ-linolenic acid. Main constituents of total and free amino acids were as follows: alanine>glutamic acid>aspartic acid. In particular, the total amino acid content in P. dentata was higher than that in P. seriata and was the highest in the sample from Jangsan-do in January. In addition, in terms of total phenolic content, reducing power, and DPPH radical-scavenging activity of both samples collected in January and February, P. dentata showed better characteristics than P. seriata. This study may provide useful information for the selection of laver in high quality.

  • The split application of a nitrogen fertilizer was applied at the levels to 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 time. The results of yield and quality of Okro tea are summarized as follows: Among five treatments, the growth and yield were somewhat more excellent in the five time split treatments compared with other treatments. The chemical components such as total nitrogen, total amino acid and vitamin C were somewhat higher in the five time split treatment compared with other treatment. However, the content of components such as tannin, caffeine, chlorophyll were not different among plots of $4{\sim}7$ time split application except three time split application manuring. The content of fatty acid was producted $2,888{\sim}2,933mg/100g$. Especially, the content of oleic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid was the higheat in the five time split application. Sixteen kinds of free amino acid including theanine as a good taste component of Okro tea were isolated and measured by HPLC. Theanine in the five time split application was higher with value of $72{\sim}513mg/100g$ than in other treatment. In scoring test, tea appearance and interal qualities of 3 time split application become lower than any other treatment as 80.2 point, while five time application had the highest with 84.7 point. Conquently, those results meant that five time split application was optimum split application of fertilizer for high yield and good quality of Okro tea.

The moisture, crude ash, crude fat, crude protein, and carbohydrate content ranges of the dried lavers were 5.67~7.43%, 8.01~8.95%, 1.54~2.25%, 37.77~39.98%, and 43.83~46.24%, respectively. The total amino acid, free amino acid, and essential amino acid concentrations were highest (25,982.15 mg/100 g, 4,545.44 mg/100 g, and 9,048.28 mg/100 g) in the dried lavers cultivated from Wando. The compositions of the fatty acids in four dried lavers were 16.30~22.15% saturated fatty acids, 6.04~7.73% monounsaturated fatty acids, and 70.33~76.03% polyunsaturated fatty acids. The sugar contents per 100 g of dried lavers were 3,678.84~4,052.52 mg of galactose, 2,112.30~2,473.86 mg of fructose, 1,103.74~1,648.39 mg of mannose, 361.67~590.21 mg of glucose, 8.63~10.38 mg of ribose, and 21.43~48.32 mg of xylose. The mineral concentrations in the dried lavers cultivated from Wando and Busan were low (Cu < Mn < Zn < Fe < Ca < Mg < Na < K), as were those in the dried lavers cultivated from Seocheon and Goheung (Cu < Mn < Zn < Fe < Mg < Ca < Na < K).

  • This study was conducted to compare and analyze the active and general components between mulberry leaf tea (MLT) and fermented mulberry leaf tea (FMLT). Among the general ingredients, the crude lipids of FMLT contained higher than that of MLT, while the level of carbohydrates was higher in the MLT. Although free sugar of FMLT was a lower concentration than MLT, the value of maltose was higher in the MLT. In FMLT, maltose was not analyzed but small amount of lactose was analyzed. In addition, the level of total free amino acid of MLT was higher than that of FMLT. The level of glutamic acid was highest in MLT, while that of cystine was highest in FMLT. The value of $\gamma$-aminobutyric acid (GABA) was greater in the derivatives of amino acids, and the content was similar for both MLT and FMLT. FMLT also contained a lower level of unsaturated fatty acids than MLT. In addition, the content of total mineral was higher in FMLT, and the level of K was the highest and similar in both teas.
