Scoparia dulcis L. is widely used in the traditional system of medicine for treating liver ailments. In the present study the terpenoids and terpenoid fractions isolated from 1:1:1 petroleum ether, diethyl ether and methanol (PDM) extract of Scoparia dulcis L. were tested for their in vitro 1, 1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity. Selected samples from the assay were further tested for their in vitro hepatoprotective activity against $CCl_4$ induced hepatotoxicity in freshly isolated rat hepatocytes. In the in vitro antioxidant study, fractions 7, 11, 13, 14, and 15 and PDM extract show the DPPH radical scavenging activity. The phytochemical screening of all these fractions show the presence of terpenoids. In the in vitro hepatoprotective study all these fractions and the PDM extract significantly prevent the $CCl_4$ induced changes in the aspartate aspartate amino transferase, alanine amino transferase and alkaline phosphatase levels (p < 0.05). The above results are comparable with the standard, silymarin. The results of the study indicate that, the PDM extract of Scoparia dulcis L. possesses potential hepatoprotective activity and this may be attributed to its free radical scavenging potential, which in turn may be attributed to the presence of terpenoids.
The present study investigated the applicability of the minium fludization velocity measuring method using linear regression analysis between the standard deviation of pressure fluctuation and gas velocity in multi-particle sand on a fluidized bed 0.109 in inner diameter. We measured minium fludization velocity according to the standard deviation of particle distribution in Gaussian distribution. The measured value compared with other researchers' equations. The minium fludization velocity derived from the linear regression analysis of the standard deviation of pressure fluctuation and pressure drop inside the bed. We also found that the minium fludization velocity of a multi-particle system using the standard deviation of pressure fluctuation must be measured at freely bubbling region.

A marine bacterium producing carotenoid was isolated from the Yosu coastal area of South Korea, which was recorded as MCK-1. It was identified as Erythrobacter sp. Optimium conditions of marine carotenoid fermentation from Erythrobacter sp. were pH 6.0, a temperature of $25^{\circ}C$, 16 mM mannitol as a carbon source, 0.5% tryptone as a nitrogen source, 0.1 mM $Fe^{+2}$ ion as a mineral source and 1$\mu$M of cyanocobalamine as a growth factor in a jar-fermentor. Erythrobacter sp. was produced 351.27 mg/100mL of the marine carotenoid in these optimum conditions. This marine carotenoid was composed of 4 different conpounds, like as notoxanthin (61.4%), can thaxanthin (24.6%), fucoxanthin (8.2%), and zeaxanthin (5.8%). Physiological properties including antibacterial activity, cytotoxic effect, antioxidative effect and free radical scavenging activity were characterized with crude carotenoid. Carotenoid exhibited no antibacterial activity against E. coli and lactobacillus bulgaricus, but showed cytotoxic effect against cancer cells such as HepG2 (Hepatocellular carcinoma, human, ATCC HB-8065) and HeLa (Cervical carcinoma, human, ATCC CCL-2) cells. The impediment ratios for HepG2 and HeLa cell were 37.14% and 33.78%, respectively. This carotenoid expressed a strong antioxidative effect (77%) against CCL-13 5 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL and 50 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL crude carotenoid, respectively.
To evaluate the effect of xanthine oxidase on liver injury by $CCl_4$, liver damage was induced both in allopurinol pretreated rats (500 mg/kg. ip) and control group by twice intraperitoneal injection of $CCl_4$ (0.1 ml/100 g body wt. 50% in olive oil) at interval of one day. Increases in the levels of serum alanine aminotransferase and liver weight/body weight (%) by $CCl_4$ were significantly smaller inallopurinol pretreated rats than in control whereas the hepatic microsomal glucose-6-pholphatase activities were significantly higher in allopurinol pretreated rats than control group by $CCl_4$ treatment. These results indicates that allopurinol pretreatment may reduce the liver damage in $CCl_4$ intoxicated rats. In rats either with $CCl_4$or not, hepatic type O xanthine oxidase activities were significantly reduced by allopurinol pretreatment and the increasing rate of these enzymes to each control was remarkably lower in allopurinol pretreated rats than control. Liver cytosolic protein contents and aniline hydroxylase, aminopyrine demethylase activities were higher in allopurinol pretreated rats than coirol rats when animals were treated with $CCl_4$. On the other hand, neither allopurinol pretreated nor $CCl_4$ treatment caused any significant changes in hepatic superoxide dismutase and catalase activities. Hepatic glutathione contents were higher in $CCl_4$-treated rats than control, but no significant changes were found in both between the allopurinol treated rats and $CCl_4$-treated rats pretreated with allopurinol, and glutathione and glutathione S-transferase activities were significantly reduced in $CCl_4$-treated rats than control whereas these enzyme activities showed on significant change in both between allopurinel treated and $CCl_4$-treated rats pretreated with allopurinol. It is concluded that xanthine oxidase reaction system augment $CCl_4$ induced liver injury via even oxygen free radical system.
In this paper, the meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method is developed for dynamic analysis of non-symmetric nanocomposite cylindrical shell equations of elastic wave motion with nonlinear grading patterns under shock loading. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposite cylinder are obtained based on a micro-mechanical model. In this study, four kinds of grading patterns are assumed for carbon nanotube mechanical properties. The displacements can be approximated using shape function so, the multiquadrics (MQ) Radial Basis Functions (RBF) are used as the shape function. In order to discretize the derived equations in time domains, the Newmark time approximation scheme with suitable time step is used. To demonstrate the accuracy of the present method for dynamic analysis, at the first a problem verifies with analytical solution and then the present method compares with the finite element method (FEM), finally, the present method verifies by using the element free Galerkin (EFG) method. The comparison shows the high capacity and accuracy of the present method in the dynamic analysis of cylindrical shells. The capability of the present method to dynamic analysis of non-symmetric nanocomposite cylindrical shell is demonstrated by dynamic analysis of the cylinder with different kinds of grading patterns and angle of nanocomposite reinforcements. The present method shows high accuracy, efficiency and capability to dynamic analysis of non-symmetric nanocomposite cylindrical shell, which it furnishes a ground for a more flexible design.
Gamma-radiolyses of oxygenated and deoxygenated glycylglycylclycine in aqueous solution and in the solid state are observed, with special regards to peptied bond rupture for elucidation of radiolytic mechanism of proteins, by means of chromatorgraphic separation of degradation products, spectrophotometric quantitation of carbonyl compounds, micro-titration of amide formation, infrared spectrophptometry, and ultraviolet spectrophotometry for evaluation of radiation damage. Essential difference of peptide bond rupture is observed in solution and in the solid state, being high in the former and negligible in the latter. On the other hand, the presence of and obsence of oxygen in solution during irradiation are not so significant with respect to peptide bond rupture, except the recombination of free-radicals produced in deoxygenated solution. Peptide bond rupture in solution is attributable to the mechanisms proposed by Garrison et al.; dehydrogenation followed by hydrolysis to yield acid amide and carbonyl function as found on the basis of radiolytic products. Peptide bond attack at $\\alpha$-carbon locus might be suggestive for irradiated solid but not significant in view of low degree of peptide bond rupture.
This paper is the follow-on of a previous paper by the author where it was pointed out that the forthcoming, manned exploration missions to Mars, by means of complex geometry spacecraft, involve the study of phenomena like shock wave-boundary layer interaction and shock wave-shock wave interaction also along the entry path in Mars atmosphere. The present paper focuses the chemical effects both in the shock layer and on the surface of a test body along the Mars orbital entry and compares these effects with those along the Earth orbital re-entry. As well known, the Mars atmosphere is almost made up of Carbon dioxide whose dissociation energy is even lower than that of Oxygen. Therefore, although the Mars entry is less energized than the Earth re-entry, one can expect that the effects of chemistry on aerodynamic quantities, both in the shock layer and on a test body surface, are different from those along the Earth re-entry. The study has been carried out computationally by means of a direct simulation Monte Carlo code, simulating the nose of an aero-space-plane and using, as free stream parameters, those along the Mars entry and Earth re-entry trajectories in the altitude interval 60-90 km. At each altitude, three chemical conditions have been considered: 1) gas non reactive and non-catalytic surface, 2) gas reactive and non-catalytic surface, 3) gas reactive and fully-catalytic surface. The results showed that the number of reactions, both in the flow and on the nose surface, is higher for Earth and, correspondingly, also the effects on the aerodynamic quantities.
An intensity-based optical fiber vibration sensor is applied to monitor the structural vibration and detect impact locations on a plate. Optical fiber vibration sensor is constructed by placing two cleaved fiber end, one of which is cantilevered in a hollow glass tube. The movement of the cantilevered section lags behind the rest of the sensor in response to an applied vibration and the amount of light coupled between the two fibers is thereby modulated. For vibration sensing, optical fiber vibration sensor is mounted on the carbon fiber composite beam and its response is investigated to free and forced vibration. In impact location detection, four optical fiber vibration sensors whose location is predetermined are placed at chosen positions and the different arrival times of impact-generated vibration signal are recorded by an FFT analyzer. Impact location can be calculated from these time delays. Experimental results show that optical fiber vibration sensor signals coincide with gap sensor in vibration sensing. The precise location of impact can be detected on an acrylate plate.
Objective: To evaluate soy sauce oil (a by-product of making whole soybean soy sauce) as a new dietary lipid source, a large amount of soy sauce oil was administered into the rumen of dairy cows. Methods: Four Holstein dairy cows fitted with rumen cannulae were used in a 56-day experiment. Ruminal administration of soy sauce oil (1 kg/d) was carried out for 42 days from day 8 to day 49 to monitor nutritional, physiological and production responses. Results: Dry matter intake and milk yield were not affected by soy sauce oil administration, whereas 4% fat-corrected milk yield and the percentage of milk fat decreased. Although ruminal concentration of total volatile fatty acids (VFA) and the proportion of individual VFA were partially affected by administration of soy sauce oil, values were within normal ranges, showing no apparent inhibition in rumen fermentation. Administration of soy sauce oil decreased the proportions of milk fatty acids with a carbon chain length of less than 18, and increased the proportions of stearic, oleic, vaccenic and conjugated linoleic acids. Conjugated linoleic acid content in milk became 5.9 to 8.8 times higher with soy sauce oil administration. Blood serum concentrations of non-esterified fatty acid, 3-hydroxybutyric acid, total cholesterol, free cholesterol, esterified cholesterol, triglyceride and phospholipid increased with administration of soy sauce oil, suggesting a higher energy status of the experimental cows. Conclusion: The results suggest that soy sauce oil could be a useful supplement to potentially improve milk functionality without adverse effects on ruminal fermentation and animal health. More detailed analysis is necessary to optimize the supplementation level of this new lipid source in feeding trials.

Citrus essential oil were extracted from citron peel of cultivated in Gohong (CCP) using environmentally friendly supercritical carbon dioxide method. Antioxidant activity and aroma composition of the essential oils extracted by the SC-$CO_2$ method were evaluated by comparing with those extracted by organic solvent method. Fatty acid composition, DPPH scavenging, and antioxidant activity of the oils obtained by different extraction condition of SC-$CO_2$ method were investigated and their antioxidant activities were compared with commercially available lavender, eucalyptus and tea tree oils. As the results, linoleic acid was most abundantly found from CCP oil extracted by the SC-$CO_2$ method and cis-11,144-eicosadienoic acids was second abundantly found. Radical scavenging ability of DPPH was 98% when the concentration of CCP oil was 50 mg/mL. This scavenging ability increased with the increase of oil concentration. On the other hand, flavonoids content (84 mg/100g) of the CCP oil extracted by the SC-$CO_2$ method was slightly higher than that (75 mg/100g) by hexane extraction. The results, obtained from CCP oil by GC-MS, indicated that, among 66 components, the content of terpenes was 55.8% and limonene was 27.3%.
