  • Recently, the IDS(Intrusion Detection System) using a video camera is an important part of the home security systems which start gaining popularity. However, the video intruder detection has not been widely used in the home surveillance systems due to its unreliable performance in the environment with abrupt illumination change. In this paper, we propose an effective moving edge extraction algorithm from a sequence image. The proposed algorithm extracts edge segments from current image and eliminates the background edge segments by matching them with reference edge list, which is updated at every frame, to find the moving edge segments. The test results show that it can detect the contour of moving object in the noisy environment with abrupt illumination change.

  • The content-based information retrieval for a multimedia database uses feature information extracted from the compressed videos. This paper presents an effective method to detect scene changes from compressed videos. Scene changes are detected with DC values of DCT coefficients in MPEG-1 encoded video sequences. Instead of decoding full frames. partial macroblocks of each frame, horizontal and vertical macroblocks, are decoded to detect scene changes. This method detects abrupt scene changes by decoding minimal number of blocks and saves a lot of computation time. The performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed based on the precision and the recall. The experimental results show the effectiveness in computation time and detection rate to detect scene changes of various MPEG-1 video streams.

  • In content-based video data retrieval, the representative-frame is usually used. To do that, the skill of detection for scene change is needed. Generally the color histogram comparison is used, but sensitive to light variation and tends to miss the scene change of similar color histogram. This paper shows how to use both color histogram comparison and entropy to prevent the false-positive of scene change occurred by light variation. At the experiments, il is more powerful to light variation to use both color histogram comparison entropy than to use only color histogram comparison.

  • A recently developed Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) technique is applied to the detection of the damage locations of bridge structures. The HHT may be used to identify the locations of damages which exhibit nonlinear and non-stationary behavior, since the instantaneous frequency characteristics of the measured signal can be analyzed by the HHT. Numerical simulations were conducted on two bridge systems with damages using controlled excitations with sweeping frequency. Nonlinear plastic model using a gap element is employed to model the behavior of the cracked elements in the numerical simulations. The results indicate that the HHT method can reasonably identify the damage locations based on a limited number of acceleration sensors. Experimental study has been 실so carried out on a steel frame to confirm the applicability of the HHT to detect a structural connection with loosened bolts.

  • In this paper, the detection scheme of the voltage variation using a two difference voltage is proposed. The conventional sag detector is from a single-phase digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) that is based on a d-q transformation using an all-pass filter (APF). The APF generates a virtual q-axis voltage component with $90^{\circ}$ phase delay but the APF cannot generate the virtual q-axis voltage depending on the phase of the grid voltage. To overcome the problem, q-axis voltage component is generated from difference between the current and previous value of d-axis voltage component in the stationary reference frame. However, the difference voltage around the zero crossing is not enough to detect the voltage sag. Therefore, the new detection scheme using the two difference voltage which can detect the sag around the zero crossing voltage is proposed.

  • This paper presents a threshold adaptation based voice query transcription scheme for music information retrieval. The proposed scheme analyzes monophonic voice signal and generates its transcription for diverse music retrieval applications. For accurate transcription, we propose several advanced features including (i) Energetic Feature eXtractor (EFX) for onset, peak, and transient area detection; (ii) Modified Windowed Average Energy (MWAE) for defining multiple small but coherent windows with local threshold values as offset detector; and finally (iii) Circular Average Magnitude Difference Function (CAMDF) for accurate acquisition of fundamental frequency (F0) of each frame. In order to evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme, we implemented a prototype music transcription system called AMT2 (Automatic Music Transcriber version 2) and carried out various experiments. In the experiment, we used QBSH corpus [1], adapted in MIREX 2006 contest data set. Experimental result shows that our proposed scheme can improve the transcription performance.

  • Among the several types of 3D display methods the autostereoscopic method has an advantage that we can enjoy a 3D image without any additional device but the method has a disadvantage of a narrow viewing zone so that the moving viewer coannot see the 3D image continuously. This disadvantage can be overcome with the detectioni of viewer's positional movement by head tracking. In this paper we suggest a method of detecting the position of the moving viewer's two eyes by using images obtained through a color CCD camera, The suggested method consists of the preprocessing process and the eye-detection process. Through the experiment of applying the suggested method we were able to find the accurate two-eyes position for 78 images among 80 sample input images of 8 different men with the processing speed of 0.39 second/frame using a personal computer.

  • In this paper, a method to detect lanes and obstacles from the images captured by a CCD camera fitted in an automobile is proposed, and a new terminology “Moving Window” is defined. Processing the input dynamic images in real time can cause quite a few constraints in terms of hardware. In order to overcome these problems and detect lanes and obstacles in real time using the images, the optimal size of “Moving Window” is determined, based upon road conditions and automobile states. The real time detection is made possible through the technique. For each image frame, the moving window is moved in a predicted direction, the accuracy of which is improved by the Kalman filter estimation. The feasibility of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through the simulated experiments of freeway driving.

  • We present in this paper a method of digital watermarking for video data based on the discrete wavelet transform. In the proposed method, a watermark signal is inserted into the decompressed bitstream while detection is performed using the uncompressed video. This method allows detection if video has been manipulated or its format changed. We embed the watermark in the lowest frequency components of each frame in the un-coded video by using wavelet transform. The watermark can be extracted directly from the decoded video without access to the original video. Experimental results show that the proposed method gives the watermarked video of better quality and is robust against MPEG coding, down sampling and re-encoding to other type of video format such as MPEG4, H.264
