The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of three luting cements and to identify the effect of thermocycling. Zirconia discs were made similar to the inner surface of a preformed pediatric zirconia crown ($NuSmile^{(R)}$ ZR crown: ZRCr). The similarity between the zirconia discs and the inner surface of a ZRCr was confirmed by scanning electron microscope. Three luting cements were $Ketac^{TM}$ Cem Permanent Glass Ionomer Luting Cement (KGI), $RelyX^{TM}$ Luting Plus Cement (RLP), $RelyX^{TM}$ Unicem Self-Adhesive Universal Resin Cement (RUR). Three luting cements were bonded according to the manufacturer's instructions for 60 zirconia discs and 60 dentin of primary teeth. Total of 120 specimens were divided into two subgroups: One was not aged, and the other was tested with 5500 thermocycling. Shear bond strength was measured using a universal testing machine, and the fracture patterns were observed with SEM. On the zirconia discs and the dentin of primary teeth, shear bond strength of RUR was higher than that of KGI and RLP, and there were statistically significant differences by cement type. The shear bond strength differences for RUR were not statistically significant depending on thermocycling.
Scaled model tests were performed to evaluate the reinforcement effect of rock bolts in anisotropic rock mass. For this purpose, two tunnel cases were experimented which had different tunnel sizes, rock strengths, anisotropic angles and coefficients of lateral pressure. The fully grouted rock bolts of the D25 deformed bar were modeled as the basting pins with bead and were systematically installed at the roof and the side wall of the model tunnel. As results of the first case experimentations, the unsupported model showed initial crack at the roof of tunnel, but the supported model with rock bolts showed initial crack at the floor of tunnel where rock bolts were not installed. The crack initiating pressure and the maximum pressure of the supported model with rock bolts were 11% and 7% larger than those of the unsupported model, respectively. Moreover, the effect of the existing discontinuities in anisotropic rock mass on the fracture behavior of tunnel was reduced in the supported model, and so the reinforcement effect of rock bolt turned out to be experimentally verified. As results of the second case experimentations considering different support patterns, the crack initiating pressures of models were larger and the reduction ratios of tunnel area according to applied load were smaller as the length and the quantity of rock bolts were larger. Therefore, it was found that the performance of the rock bolts turned out to be improved as they were larger.
Purpose : We performed routinely arthroscopy to diagnose and treat intra-articular soft tissue pathology and tibial condylar fractures. The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical value of arthroscopy in the tibial condylar fractures. Materials and Methods : The 31 tibial condylar fractures was examed by routine arthroscopy, 9 treated by conservative method and 22 treated by surgery at least follow up of 12 months. The authors analysed to the cause, classification, soft tissue injuries such as ligaments and menisci, treatment and results. Results : The most common type was Schatzker classification type I in 15 cases$(18\%)$ and intra-articular lesions and associated ligament injury were in 21 cases$(67\%)$. Most common lesion was meniscal tear in 16 cases and most common type of meniscal lesions was peripheral detachment in 7 cases$(44\%)$. Schatzker I, II fracture patterns were associated with the highest frequency of soft tissue injuries, especially medial collateral ligament and meniscal injuries. Conclusion : Arthroscopic examination is useful method to evaluate the intra-articular pathology and to treat the tibial condylar fractures.
Commonly-used polymers are manufactured as versatile forms. Furthermore, continuous polymer fibers are recently manufactured using nylon or aramid fiber. One of common epoxy was also used to make polymer fibers. Bisphenol-A type was used as base epoxy whereas amine and anhydride were used as hardeners. Epoxy fibers was cured by stepping up the temperature to maintain the shape of epoxy fiber. Surface energy was measured to confirm the degree of interfacial adhesion by modified static contact angle method. After mechanical properties were measured via fiber tensile test, the evaluation of fiber fracture was proceeded. Tensile strength of epoxy fiber using amine type hardener was higher as 138 MPa than anhydride case as 70 MPa. Fractured surface exhibited different failure patterns at the cross-section.
Ground magnetic surveys were conducted at four areas where the Yangsan fault, the most prominent lineament in the Kyeongsang basin, appears to be passed through. For data processing, IGRF correction, upward continuation and reduction-to-the-pole were performed. The automatic inversion by using a matrix computation method, which takes the depth to bottom layer of the horizontal two layer structure as the model parameter, has been attempted to delineate the subsurface structure. Upward continuation of the surface magnetic map to the same level of the aeromagnetic survey (KIER, 1989) resulted in very similiar patterns to those of aeromagnetic data. Subsurface modeling of eight profile data show that the strike and dip of the Yangsan fault in study areas are $N6^{\circ}-15^{\circ}E$, and near vertical to somewhat eastward, repectively, despite of the local lithological contrast of each study area. It seems that the magnetic effect of faulting in the study area 1, which locates in the most northern part of the survey areas, is disturbed by that of igneous intrusion. At study area 2, the possibility of volcanic or igneous intrusion, which is 200-300 meters wide along the fault plane was presented. At study area 3, unlike other study areas, distinct fracture zone of 500-700 meters in width was revealed along the surface fault line. The andesitic rocks of the study area 4 have very high susceptibilities and the fault line on surface of this area was shifted about 500 meter eastward, as compared with the inferred fault line by the previous study.

Purpose: Dental emergencies vary from toothaches to oral and maxillofacial traumas. Because the number of dental emergency cases has increased recently, we analyzed characteristics of patients seen during the last 2 years, in an effort to find a trend. Methods: This study was carried out with emergency room patients visiting the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from 2009 to 2010. Results: The total number of patients studied was 1,162; the ratio of males to females was 1.73:1. The most frequent age group was 0 to 9 years, followed by 20 to 29 years. Trauma (58.7%) was the most frequent cause followed by acute toothache, oral hemorrhage, infection, and temporomandibular (TMJ) disorder. In the trauma group, injuries of soft tissue and alveolus were prevalent. The most common causes of soft tissue injury were falls, safety violations and assault. The highest incidence of emergencies was seen in patients 0 to 9 years old (41.8%). The most common causes of jaw fracture were falls, assaults, and traffic accidents in that order. In the acute toothache group, most patients had pulpitis (41.2%). In the infection group, most had buccal space abscesses (40.0%). In the hemorrhage group, post-operative bleeding cases (80.5%) were the majority, and hemostasis was obtained mostly by pressure dressings. For the TMJ disorder group, masticatory muscle disorder (65.4%) was more common than TMJ dislocation. Conclusion: In this study, trauma was the most frequent reason for patients who visited the emergency room. However, acute toothache, hemorrhage, infection and TMJ disorders were also seen frequently. Dental emergency patients could be better treated by understanding patterns of dental emergencies and performing proper diagnoses.
Three hundred sixty-two(male 131, female 231) elderly aged over 65 in Chungb- uk area were interviewed to determine the disease states and drug usage patterns. The prebalence of disease was 78% and women reported more chronic diseases(83%) than men(71%). Elderly who live with spouse and have an occupation have a lower rate of disease. Average number of diseases of the elderly was $1.8\pm{1.1}$, and women$(2.1\pm{1.3)}$ have significantly higher average number of diseases than that of men$(1.4\pm{0.7)}$. Also the elderly in urban areas$(2.1\pm{1.4)}$ have significantly higher number of diseases than that of the elderly in rural areas$(1.6\pm{0.9)}$. Arthritis, hypertension, cardiovascular and gastric diseases were the most frequently listed chronic diseases in order for both men and women. Anemia and fracture of bone were relatively higher in women than in men. Particularly, the arthritis of the urban elderly have a rate of 1.5 times higher than that of the rural elderly. Fifty-two percent of the elderly were currently using drugs ; among drug users 71.2% used prescription drugs and 20.5% used nonprescription drugs. The average number taken per person was 2.1$\pm$1.4 and there was no sex or age difference. However, the elderly in rural areas $(2.7\pm{1.7)}$ consumed a significantly higher number of drugs than those in urban areas$(1.7\pm{0.7)}$. The average number of prescripti- on drugs taken was 2.0$\pm$1.4 while the average of nonprescription drugs taken was $(1.3\pm{0.6)}$. Analgesics and antihypertensive drugs were most commonly used. Vitamin and analgesics were the most frequently used self-prescribed drugs. It was noted that potential adverse drug interaction by concominant drug consumption for arthritis and antihypensive drug, abuse of digestants and antiacid without treatment of the underlying disease, and misuse of quick-acting bowel medications were problematic for the elderly. In addition drugs used for the elderly have some adverse effect on the digestive system. The types and composition of drugs used by the elderly were identified and presented. Medication compliance was poor and 13.5% reported adverse reactions such as edema, heartburn, nausea, and difficulty with eating. Seventeen percent of the elderly obtained drugs arranged by those other than medical staff. Also, even among those elderly who obtained drugs prescribed by a doctor, 69.1% of subjects had not receive instruction about potential adverse reactions. These results suggest that nutritional problems related to drug usage might exist and so dietitians, either individually or as members of health teams, need to have a better understanding of drug-nutrient interaction and closer supervision, and drug information/education service should therefore be provided to prevent or minimize adverse drug reaction in elderly users of medication.
This study introduces integrated approach on detection of a leakage in a sea wall based on remote sensing, electric resistivity survey, electromagnetic survey, and borehole survey for the Seosan A-Region sea wall. The satellite temperature distribution from Landsat ETM+ data identifies water leakage distribution and period by analyzing temperature mixing patterns between sea water and fresh water. Electric resistivity survey provides both horizontal and vertical anomaly distributions over the sea wall showing below average electric resistivity. Electromagnetic survey(electrical conductivity survey) reveals the potential possible leakage areas with minimal background impact by comparing electrical conductivity values between high and low tides. Borehole image processing system confirmed the locations of anomalies identified from the other survey methods and distributions of vertical fracture zones. The integrated approach identified 41.7% of the sea wall being the most probable area vulnerable to water leakage and effectively approximated both horizontal and vertical distribution of water leakage. The integrated analysis of remote sensing, electric resistivity survey, electromagnetic survey and borehole survey is considered to be an optimal method in identifying water leakage distribution, period, and extent of fractures knowledged from the boreholes.
Flexion of a metal/ceramic fixed partial denture(EPD) frameworks under function can cause fracture of porcelain or deterioration of the cement seal. This study evaluated the flexion characteristics of three-unit mandibular FPD frameworks, repacing the second pre-molar under compressive load(200g, 400g). Testing was accompished with real-time holographic interferometry, using 6 porcelain fused-to metal frameworks. Tested alloys were non-precious alloy(Heracles, Holland), semi-precious alloy(Degudent U, Germany) and precious alloy(Degudent H, Germany). Changes of the fringe patterns according to the heat treatment(porcelain firing cycle), various loads(200g, 400g), occlusal forms(occlusal porcelain veneering, facial porcelain veneering), various alloys and post-soldering units were compared. Dental study model(Nissan dental products, Inc. D51DP-500A, Japan) and six 3-unit metal/ceramic fixed partial denture frameworks were used as experimental materials. 36 holograms were taken on fixed dental study model by using the 10mW He-Ne laser and real-time holographic interferometry. On the basis of this study, the following conclusions can be drawn : 1. In the frameworks for facial porcelain veneering, the semi-precious alloy framework was least deformed and precious alloy framework, non-precious alloy framework orderly before heat treatment, and the deformation was not shown great difference among three alloys after heat treatment and post-soldering. 2. In the frameworks for occlusal porcelain veneering, the precious alloy framework was greatest deformed and the deformation was not difference between semi-precious alloy framework and non-precious alloy framework before, after heat treatment, and the deformation was not shown great difference among three alloys after post soldering. 3. In the non-precious alloy frameworks for facial porcelain veneering and occlusal porcelain veneering, the deformation was greatly decreased after heat treatment and conversely increased after post-soldering. 4. In the semi-precious alloy framework for facial porcelain veneering, the deformation was not detectable after heat treatment and increased after post-solder. And in the frame-work for occlusal porcelain veneering, the deformation was slightly decreased after heat treatment and increased after post-soldering. 5. In the precious alloy framework for facial porcelain veneering, the deformation was greatly decreased after heat treatment and increased after post-soldering, And in the framework for occlusal porcelain veneering, the deformation was greatly decreased after heat treatment and decreased after post-soldering.
The purpose of this study was to estimate shear bond strength according to difference in luting cements and Targis surface treatment. 70 non-carious extracted human molars and Targis shade D210(Ivoclar, Liechtenstein) were used in the present study and they were randomly assigned into 7 experimental groups ; Group 1 : specimens were bonded with using vitremer(3M, U.S.A). Group 2, 4, 6 : specimens were not-treated with silane and bonded with Panavia 21(Kuraray Japan), Choice(Bisco, U.S.A.) and Variolink II(Vivadent, Liechtenstein) respectively Group 3, 5, 7 : specimens were treated with silane and bonded with Panavia 21, Choice and Variolink II respectively. After the surface treatment, the luting cement was mixed by manufacturer's recommendation and then applied between dentin and Targis and excess cement was removed by brush. All specimens were stored for 24 hrs in distiled water at $37^{\circ}C$. Shear bond strength for each group was then measured. To examine the failure patterns of targis to dentin, specimens were fabricated and observed under the SEM. The results were as follows ; 1. The mean shear bond strength of the groups using resin cements was significantly higher than that using resin-modified GI cements (P<0.05). 2. There is no significant difference in shear bond strength between Panavia 21 and Choice whether silane was used or not(P>0.05). However, bond strength for the groups using Variolink II was higher in the specimens not-treated with silane than the treated specimens (P<0.05). 3. There is no significant difference in bond strength among the groups using silane surface treatment and resin cement (group 3, 5, 7) (P<0.05). 4. The proportions of the specimens showing the mixed fracture failure were 20% in groups using Panavia 21 and Variolink II and 15% in group using Choice.
