Purpose: Blow out fracture can present tenderness, swelling, enophthalmos, extraoccular muscle limitation, paresthesia, diplopia according to severity of injury, so reconstruction of blow out fracture is important. Orbital soft tissue should be in orbit and defected orbital wall should be corrected by autologus tissue or alloplastic implants. Every implants have their merits and faults, every implants are used various. This study was designed to compare the sequelae of blow-out fracture repair using the alloplastic implants: micro-titanium mesh(Micro Dynamic titanium $mesh^{(R)}$, Leibinger, Germany), porous polyethylene ($Medpor^{(R)}$, Porex, USA), absorbable mesh plate(Biosorb $FX^{(R)}$ . Bionx Implants Ltd, Finland). Methods: Between January 2006 and April 2008, 52 patients were included in a retrospective study analysing the outcome of corrected inferior orbital wall fracture with various kind of implants. Implants were inserted through subciliary incision. Twenty patients were operated with micro-titanium mesh, fourteen patients with porous polyethylene and eighteen patients with absorbable mesh plate. In comparative category, enophthalmos, diplopia, range of motion of extraoccular muscle, inferior orbital nerve injury were more on frequently statistically in patients. Results: Fourteen of 18 patients underwent surgical repair to improve diplopia, 11 of 17 patients to improve parasthesia, 11 of 15 patients to improve enophthalmos, 8 of 9 patients to improve extraoccular muscle limitation. Duration of follow-up time ranged from 6 months to 12 months(mean, 7.4 months). There was no statistic difference of sequelae between micro titanium mesh and porous polyethylene and absorbable mesh plate in blowout fracture, inferior wall. Conclusion: There is no difference of sequelae between micro-titanium mesh, porous polyethylene and absorbable mesh plate in blow-out fracture, inferior wall. The other factors such as defect size, location, surgeon's technique, may influence the outcome of blow-out fracture repair.
Fracture behaviors of single-edge-notched monolithic aluminum plates and glass fiber/aluminum laminates under tensile loadings have been studied using acoustic emission(AE) monitoring. AE signals from monolithic aluminum could beclassified into two different types. For glass fiber/aluminum laminates, AE signals with high amplitude and long duration were additionally confirmed on FFT frequency analysis, which corresponded to macrocrack propagation and/or delamination. AE source location determined by signal arrival time showed the zone of fracture. On the basis of the above AE analysis and fracture observation, characteristic features of fracture processes of single-edge-notched glass fiber/aluminum laminates were elucidated according to different fiber ply orientations and fiber/aluminum lay-up ratios.
This is a clinical and retrospective study who sustained a total of 306 maxillofacial bone fracture and who were treated in our department between 1990-1994. This results were obtained as follows : 1. The ratio of men to women was 3.2 : 1. 2. The age frequency was the highest in the third decade(35%). That of man was the highest in the third decade but that of women in the fourth decade. 3. In respect of incidence, the number of patients has not been increased year after year. There were the highest frequency in September and the lowest frequency in January. 4. The most frequent cause of facial bone fracture was fall down(40.2%), traffic accident(28.1%), fist blow(20.9%), industrial accident(6.2%) and others in order. 5. The most common location of facial bone fracture was mandible(69%), maxillar with zygoma and zygoma in order of frequency. 6. The age frequency of mandible was the third decade(36.5%), the fourth decade(23.2%) and the fourth decade(22.2%) and the fifth decade(15.6%) in order. 7. In respect of incidence of associated injuries, the ratio of absence to presence was 0.7 : 1. 8. In 306 patients of facial bone fracture, the frequency of associated injuries was laceration, extrimities, chest in order.
The forming failure of AZ31 alloy sheet during deep drawing processes was predicted by the FEM and ductile fracture criteria. Uniaxial tensile tests of round-notched specimens and FE simulations were performed to calculate the critical damage values for three ductile fracture criteria. The critical damage values for each criterion were expressed as a function of strain rate at various temperatures. In order to determine the best criterion for failure prediction, Erichsen cupping test under isothermal conditions at $250^{\circ}C$ were conducted. Based on the plastic deformation histories obtained from the FE analysis of the Erichsen cupping tests and the critical damage value curves, the initiation time and location of fracture were predicted under bi-axial tension deformation. The results indicate that the Cockcroft-Latham criterion had good agreement with the experimental data. In addition, the FE analysis combined with the criterion was applied to another deep drawing process using an irregular shaped blank and these additional results were verified with experimental tests.
Longitudinal fracture behavior of non-linear elastic beam configurations is studied in terms of the strain energy release rate. It is assumed that the beams exhibit continuous material inhomogeneity along the width as well as along the height of the crosssection. The Ramberg-Osgood stress-strain relation is used for describing the non-linear mechanical behavior of the inhomogeneous material. A solution to strain energy release rate is derived that holds for inhomogeneous beams of arbitrary cross-section under combination of axial force and bending moments. Besides, the solution may be applied at any law of continuous distribution of the modulus of elasticity in the beam cross-section. The longitudinal crack may be located arbitrary along the beam height. The solution is used to investigate a longitudinal crack in a beam configuration of rectangular cross-section under four-point bending. The crack is located symmetrically with respect to the beam mid-span. It is assumed that the modulus of elasticity varies continuously according a cosine law in the beam cross-section. The longitudinal fracture behavior of the inhomogeneous beam is studied also by applying the J-integral approach for verification of the non-linear solution to the strain energy release rate derived in the present paper. Effects of material inhomogeneity, crack location along the beam height and non-linear mechanical behavior of the material on the longitudinal fracture behavior are evaluated. Thus, the solution derived in the present paper can be used in engineering design of inhomogeneous non-linear elastic structural members to assess the influence of various material and geometrical parameters on longitudinal fracture.

Objectives: The incidence and patterns of mandibular fractures vary by country and population age. This retrospective study evaluated the etiologies and patterns of mandibular fractures in children. Materials and Methods: The clinical records of 89 children (45 males and 44 females) aged 0 to 12 years who presented with mandibular fractures from July 2012 to June 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. The sex, patient age, site of fracture, etiology of trauma, and monthly variations of the fractures were recorded. Descriptive statistics, the z-test and chi-square test were used for statistical analysis and the P-value was set at <0.05. Results: Eighty-nine children (male-to-female ratio 1.02:1) sustained 131 mandibular fractures. Within the study sample, the 6 to 9 year age group most frequently experienced fractures (47.3%). Falls and road traffic accidents (RTA) were the two most common etiological factors that accounted for 44.9% and 24.7% of cases. The condylar fracture was the most common anatomical location (38.9%) followed by the angle (20.6%), parasymphysis (18.3%), body (15.3%), and symphysis (5.3%). A single fracture (51.7%) was more common than multiple fractures (48.3%). The month-wise distribution of mandibular fractures was fairly constant. Conclusion: The condylar region was the most common anatomic site for fractures; in addition, a fall and RTA were the major etiological factors for mandibular fractures. A single fracture was observed in 51.7% of patients while multiple fracture lines accounted for 48.3% of cases.
It is the intention of this study to synthesize the effects of double-edge cracks on the dynamic characteristics of a beam. The stiffness matrix is first determined for a Timoshenko beam containing two same-line edge cracks. The presented model is then developed for elements with two parallel double-sided cracks, considering the interaction between the stress fields of adjacent cracks. Finally, a finite element code is implemented, to examine the influence of depth and location of double cracks, on the natural frequencies of the damaged system.
Fracture behaviors of pipes with local wall thinning are very important for the integrity of nuclear power plant. However, effects of local wall thinning on strength and fracture behaviors of piping system were not well studied. Acoustic emission(AE) has been widely used in various fields because of its extreme sensitivity, dynamic detection ability and location of growing defects. In this study, we investigated failure modes of locally wall thinned pipes and AE signals by bending test. From test results, we could be divided four types of failure modes of ovalization, crack initiation after ovalization, local buckling and crack initiation after local buckling. And fracture behaviors such as elastic region, yielding region, plastic deformation region and crack progress region could be evaluated by AE counts, accumulative counts and time-frequency analysis during bending test. The result of the frequency range is expected to be basic data that can inspect plants in real-time.

During the eruption of permanent teeth, Traumatic root fractures in young permanent incisors are rare. They occur most commonly in the maxillary central incisors of male patient and are frequently seen in the coronal third of the root. Permanent incisors are very important in terms of esthetics as well as of function, and so conservative treatment is advisable. It is important to maintain vitality of pulp to achieve better result. Location of the fracture line determines the Prognosis. No clinical change were seen in this three case. A case of central incisor with apparent healing of a root fracture without any tratment is presented in this paper. Long term clinical observation is required periodically.
The process of localization of cracks and movement of the fracture process zone(FPZ) was studied using the acoustic-emission(AE) techniques. The rate of AE events and sources of AE activity were studied for mortar and rock specimens loaded in uniaxial compression. A series of transducers could be used to detect and AE activity. Based on the time differences between detection of the event at different transducers, source of AE activity could be detected. The rate of AE events increased sharply before peak load. The highest rate occurred just after peak load was attained. The effective crack length estimated from the modified linear-elastic fracture mechanics seemed consistent with the optical and AE measurements.
