Nitrogen components in liquid manure can reduce safety and quality of environment harmfully. To minimize the environmental risks of manure, understanding fate of manure in environment is necessary. This study aimed at investigating applicability of a simplified Level III fugacity model for simulating $NH_3-N$ component to analyze environmental fate and transport of $NH_3-N$ in liquid manure and to provide basis for improving management of N in the liquid manure system and for minimizing the environmental impacts of N. The model simulation conducted for four environmental compartments (air, water, soil, and rice plants) during rice-cropping to trace $NH_3-N$ component and provided applicability of the Level III fugacity model in studying the environmental fate of $NH_3-N$ in manure. Most of $NH_3-N$ was found in water body and in rice plants depending upon the physicochemical properties and proper removal processes. For more precise model results, the model is needed to modify with the detailed removal processes in each compartment and to collect proper and accurate information for input parameters. Further study should be about simulations of various N-typed fertilizers to compare with the liquid manure based on a modified and relatively simplified Level III fugacity model.
Unsaturated Polyester Resin (UPR) is in general used as a resin to prepare for composite materials with reinforcing materials such as glass fibers. UPR, a thermosetting resin, is used in industry to prepare for sheet molding compound (SMC) molding prepreg that has excellent productivity and is advantageous for mass production among various molding methods of composite materials. The fiber-reinforced composite material using UPR as a matrix material is light and has the advantage of excellent physical properties, but it is weak against impact and is fragile. Four types of polyurethane were synthesized and added to UPR resin to overcome the shortcomings.
Concepts and categories offer the basis for inference pertaining to unobserved features. Prior research on category-based induction that used blank properties has suggested that similarity between categories and features explains feature inference (Rips, 1975; Osherson et al., 1990). However, it was shown by later research that prior knowledge had a large influence on category-based inference and cases were reported where similarity effects completely disappeared. Thus, this study tested category-based feature inference when features are connected in a causal chain and proposed a feature inference model that predicts participants' inference ratings. Each participant learned a category with four features connected in a causal chain and then performed feature inference tasks for an unobserved feature in various exemplars of the category. The results revealed nonindependence, that is, the features not only linked directly to the target feature but also to those screened-off by other feature nodes and affected feature inference (a violation of the causal Markov condition). Feature inference model of causal model theory (Sloman, 2005) explained nonindependence by predicting the effects of directly linked features and indirectly related features. Indirect features equally affected participants' inference regardless of causal distance, and the model predicted smaller effects regarding causally distant features.

Physical, mechanical, hydraulic, and geophysical tests were applied to validate methods of inspecting the effectiveness of grouting on an agricultural reservoir dam. Data obtained from series of in situ and laboratory tests considered four stages: before grouting; during grouting; immediately after grouting; and after aging the grouting for 28 days. The results of SPT and triaxial tests, including the unit weight, compressive strength, friction angle, cohesion, and N-value, indicated the extent of ground improvement with respect to grout injection. However, they sometimes contained errors caused by ground heterogeneity. Hydraulic conductivity obtained from in situ variable head permeability testing is most suitable for identifying the effectiveness of grouting because the impermeability of the ground increased immediately after grouting. Electric resistivity surveying is useful for finding a saturated zone and a seepage pathway, and multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) is suitable for analyzing the effectiveness of grouting, as elastic velocity increases distinctly after grouting injection. MASW also allows calculation from the P- and S- wave velocities of dynamic properties (e.g., dynamic elastic modulus and dynamic Poisson's ratio), which can be used in the seismic design of dam structures.

This study investigated the environmental effects of improving the general-type activated carbon adsorption tower used at the Sihwa/Banwol Industrial Complex with use of a cartridge-type activated carbon adsorption tower for the application of an activated carbon co-regenerated system. Four general-type activated carbon adsorption towers and two cartridge-type activated carbon adsorption towers were selected to analyze the properties of activated carbon and to compare the efficiency of reducing environmental pollutants. The results showed that the activated carbon used in the cartridge-type activated carbon adsorption towers was high quality activated carbon with an iodine adsorption force of more than 800 mg/g and that a good adsorption performance was maintained within the replacement cycle. From an analysis of the environmental pollutant reduction efficiency, it was confirmed that the cartridge-type activated carbon adsorption tower functioned properly as a prevention facility for handling emissions pollutants with a treatment efficiency of total hydrocarbons (THC), toluene, and methylethylketone (MEK) components of 71%, 77%, and 80%, respectively. The general activated carbon adsorption tower, which was confirmed to use low-performance activated carbon, had a very low treatment efficiency and did not function properly as a prevention facility for dealing with emission pollutants. It is believed that it is possible to reduce pollutants during operations by changing from the general-type activated carbon adsorption tower to a cartridge-type activated carbon adsorption tower.

Thermally sprayed tungsten carbide-based powder coatings are being widely used for a variety of wear resistance applications. The coating deposited by high velocity processes such as high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying is known to provide improved wear resistant property. In this study, optimal coating process (OCP) is obtained by the study of coating properties such as surface hardness, porosity, surface roughness and microstructure of 9 coatings prepared by Taguchi program for 3 levels of four spray parameters. The Friction and wear behaviors of HVOF WC-CoCr coating prepared by OCP, electrolytic hard chrome (EHC) plating and Inconel718 (In718) are investigated by reciprocating sliding wear test at $25^{\circ}C$, $450^{\circ}C$. Friction coefficients (FC) of all of the 3 samples are decreased as increasing sliding surface temperature from $25^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$. FC of WC-CoCr decreases as increasing the surface temperature from $0.33{\pm}0.02$ at $25^{\circ}C$ to $0.26{\pm}0.02$ at $450^{\circ}C$, showing the lowest FC among the 3 samples. Wear trace (WT) and wear depth (WD) of WC-CoCr are smaller than those of EHC and In718 both at $25^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$. These show that WC-CoCr is highly recommendable for protective coating on In718 and other metal components.

In this study, the preparation conditions for a TiO2-based vanadium-based catalyst for oxidizing hydrogen sulfide at room temperature were optimized. Four types of commercial TiO2 were used as a catalyst support and the performance evaluation of hydrogen sulfide oxidation at room temperature of V/TiO2 by varying vanadium contents prepared using the impregnation method was performed. Among the types of TiO2 tested, it was confirmed that the catalyst with the vanadium content of 5% and based on TiO2(A) has the best hydrogen sulfide conversion rate of 58%. By comparing the physical and chemical properties of the catalyst, the specific surface area of the support and the species of dominant vanadium are the major factor in catalyst performance. In order to confirm the regeneration characteristics of the catalyst with reduced activity, heat treatment was performed at 400 ℃ for 2 h, and the amount of hydrogen sulfide oxidation decreased by 10% due to the partial deposition of sulfur in the regenerated catalyst, but it was confirmed that the initial performance was similar.
The specific strength of magnesium alloy is four times that of iron and 1.5 times that of aluminum. For this reason, its use is increasing in the transportation industry which is promoting weight reduction. At room temperature, magnesium alloy has low formability due to Hexagonal closed packed (HCP) structure with relatively little slip plane. However, as the molding temperature increases, the formability of the magnesium alloy is greatly improved due to the activation of other additional slip systems, and the flow stress and elongation vary greatly depending on the temperature. In addition, magnesium alloys exhibit asymmetrical behavior, which is different from tensile and compression behavior. In this study, a jig was developed that can measure the plane deformation behavior on the surface of a material in tensile and compression tests of magnesium alloys in warm temperature. A jig was designed to prevent buckling occurring in the compression test by applying a certain pressure to apply it to the tensile and compression tests. And the tensile and compressive behavior of magnesium at each temperature was investigated with the developed jig and DIC equipment. In each experiment, the strain rate condition was set to a quasi-static strain rate of 0.01/s. The transformation temperature is room temperature, 100℃. 150℃, 200℃, 250℃. As a result of the experiment, the flow stress tended to decrease as the temperature increased. The maximum stress decreased by 60% at 250 degrees compared to room temperature. Particularly, work softening occurred above 150 degrees, which is the recrystallization temperature of the magnesium alloy. The elongation also tended to increase as the deformation temperature increased and increased by 60% at 250 degrees compared to room temperature. In the compression experiment, it was confirmed that the maximum stress decreased as the temperature increased.
To verify the field-effectiveness of Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS), a terrestrial LiDAR was deployed to examine the damage properties of woods in forest fire area, then the data was compared with the results surveyed by a forestry expert. Four sample plots (30 m × 50 m, 0.15 ha) were set from the foot to the top of the mountain, and DBH, height, clear length, burned height, and crown length were investigated. Next, TLS collected information on damage characteristics found in the sample plots. This information was then compared with that amassed by the expert. The expert and the TLS survey results showed 30.8 cm and 29.9 cm for DBH, 15.8 m and 17.5 m for tree height, 8.4 m and 8.4 m for clear length, 4.0 m, 3.5 m for burned height, and 7.4 cm and 9.1 cm for crown length. With the exceptions of height and clear length, no notable discrepancy was observed between two methods. H/D ratio, CL/H ratio, and BH/CL ratio, all of which contribute to stability and decay rate of the stand, from the two methods were also compared. The human survey rated each ratio (H/D, CL/H, BH/CL in order) 51.3%, 47.1%, and 53.6%, while the TLS presented the results of 58.8%, 52.0%, and 38.7%.
