  • Purpose: This study aimed to explore the motives of clinical nurses for experiencing empathy with patients and their families based on a self-determination theory framework. Methods: Semi-structured face-to-face interviews with twenty-one nurses at four tertiary hospitals in Anhui, China, were conducted, recorded and transcribed. A content analysis with a directed approach was performed. Results: An analysis of the interview transcripts revealed three categories of empathy motivation: autonomous motivation, controlled motivation and a lack of empathy motivation. Autonomous motivation included personal interests, enjoyment and a sense of value, pure altruism, assimilation, and recognition of the importance of empathy. Controlled motivation highlighted pressures from oneself and others, the possibility of tangible or intangible rewards, and avoidance of adverse effects. Finally, a lack of empathy motivation referred to a lack of intention for empathy and denial of the value of empathy. Conclusion: This study provides a deep understanding of the motives underlying empathy in nurses. The results reveal the reasons for empathy and may support the development of effective strategies to foster and promote empathy in nurses.

  • Objective: This study aims to examine the impact of young children's playfulness and self-esteem on their creative personality. Methods: The sample consisted of 332 four- and five-year-old children enrolled in kindergartens and daycare centers in Incheon. Teacher-report measures of playfulness, self-esteem, and creative personality scales were used for data collection instruments. The collected data were analyzed using t-test, analysis of variance, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Firstly, significant differences were found in all variables based on children's gender, while age and birth order did not show statistically significant differences. Secondly, young children's playfulness and self-esteem were found to have a positive impact on their creative personality. Specifically, among the sub-variables, cognitive spontaneity and humor in playfulness, along with competency in self-esteem, showed relatively higher levels of impact on young children's creative personality. Conclusion/Implications: The study findings emphasize the necessity of comprehensive support systems that foster playfulness and self-esteem to enhance young children's creative personality. This includes providing proper teacher training and a range of instructional materials, along with parental education.

These changes provided opportunities for early childhood to practice respect towards others, fostering a broader understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. Conclusion/Implications: This study holds significance in contributing to the discourse on the necessity and direction of refugee education through the development and application of a refugee education program for early childhood. It is anticipated that this research will stimulate in-depth discussions on educational approaches that foster early childhood interest in global issues and cultivate a sense of global citizenship and attitude in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether parenting attitudes would have an effect on the developmental trajectories of school adjustment for adolescents in out-of-home care. Additionally, we hypothesized that this model would be different between boys and girls. In this study, we analyzed three waves of data collected from 341 adolescents living in residential facilities, group homes or foster homes by using cluster sampling methods. Growth-curve longitudinal analysis was conducted, and the results indicated that levels of school adjustment had increased from the 1st through the 3rd grade of middle school. Positive parenting attitudes had a positive impact on initial school adjustment and rate of change, whereas negative parenting attitudes had a negative impact only on the initial school adjustment. Second, multi-group analysis revealed that there were group differences between boys and girls in their initial school adjustment by positive parenting attitudes. Based on these results, this study discussed further suggestions to increase school adjustments for adolescents in out-of-home care.

The data are based on the medical dossier of 305 patients which were hospitalized in 'A' hospital (of Seoul municipal hospital) between 1992 and 1996. The method of analysis is SPSS statistical package and the following results can be obtained 1. The abandoned children were frequently found in the Spring by season, in April by month, on Friday by day, and especially in the night and before an individual home and an medical institution in many cases. 2. The children found in an individual home were younger, handicapped smaller, and hospitalized for shorter period. As they were healthy relatively, parents might hope that they were accepted as foundling foster children. Contrary to above case, the children found in an medical institution were worse, handicapped more, and hospitalized for longer period. Accordingly, parents might hope that they were protected in an public institution. 3. The $69.8\%$ of abandoned children had caught a disease at that time and the $53.8\%$ of them had been handicapped. The most serious disease and handicap were the heart-lung trouble and the cerebral palsy, respectively. 4. The only $60.8\%$ of them were adopted and the most of them were healthy relatively. The $10.2\%$ which have been dead had caught four diseases on the average. As the results of above, the followings can be proposed : 1) It is required that the system connected to administrative management, which can provide the abandoned children turned for the better with the family relations to voluntary servants, be developed. 2) It is required that the system of registration management and plan for support economy, which can support the handicapped birth as the congenital malformation in national aspect, be developed. 3) It is required that to protect abandoned children, the health educational program for childbirth-people be prepared in the unit of a public health center.

A success of IT industry depends on a few IT geniuses like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Thus, it is necessary to identify and foster gifted children in IT as early as possible. The purpose of this paper is to identify the correlation of academic performance per subject for the gifted children in IT. The analysis is focused on three subjects, that is, Information, Science, and Mathematics, respectively. For this purpose, the gifted children are selected and analyzed in a gifted science education center attached in a university at Seoul Metropolitan Area. The analysis results show that there is meaningful correlation among three subjects. That is, if high scores in a subject means high scores in other subjects. For instance, a gifted child with high scores in Information got high scores in Science and Mathematics. The result will be useful to improve selection examinations and curriculum for gifted education in IT, for inclusive education and convergent education.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to enhance health management and prevention strategies for precocious puberty by comparing the knowledge, motivation, and behaviors related to reducing exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) between mothers of children with precocious puberty and those of typically developing children. Methods: Participants were 66 mothers of children with precocious puberty from a hospital and 71 mothers of typically developing children from an elementary school. The research questionnaire assessed knowledge of EDCs, motivation, self-efficacy, and behaviors towards reduced exposure to EDCs, in addition to general characteristics of children with precocious puberty. Data analysis utilized descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, t-tests, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation. Results: There were statistically significant differences in self-efficacy (p=.015) and behavior (p=.001) regarding reduced exposure to EDCs between the two groups. Behaviors toward reduced exposure to EDCs were positively associated with knowledge of EDCs, motivation, and self-efficacy among mothers of children with precocious puberty. Additionally, these behaviors correlated positively with knowledge of EDCs, motivation, self-efficacy, and the child's birth weight and waist circumference among mothers of typically developing children. Conclusion: The results of this study revealed that mothers of children with precocious puberty exhibited less proactive behavior in reducing exposure to EDCs compared to mothers of typical children. Therefore, it is important to foster interest in the impact of environmental factors, beyond characteristic factors, on behaviors aimed at reducing exposure to EDCs.
