  • The purpose of this study is to investigate elementary school students' conceptions about the energy represented in the integrated theme 'Energy and life' of the 2015 revised science curriculum. The instruments were developed to grasp students' understanding about 'the concepts of energy,' 'forms of energy,' 'conversion of energy,' and 'energy use of plants and animals.' The surveys were conducted on 92 elementary school students in Seoul. The students' answers were analyzed by descriptive statistics, clouds and semantic network analysis. The results are as follows: 'Electricity' and 'electric energy' were most frequently mentioned as the associated concepts to energy and forms of energy, respectively. Also, the daily use of energy was mixed to the use in science. According to conceptual hierarchy, understanding of energy conversion was dependent on the understanding of energy forms. Although students have basic concepts about the energy use of plants and animals, they had some misconceptions and lack of understanding. The educational implications were discussed to teach 'Energy and Life' as integrated theme in new elementary school curriculum.

  • This paper aims to create standard forms of MRV plan and report, used when policy funds are applied in accordance with ESCO regulations, when energy savings are measured (the savings would be generated as energy users and ESCOs signed the contract of guarantee for energy savings, and energy saving facilities are installed following the contract). To fully reflect the goals and effects of the installation of energy saving facilities, MRV plans and reports will be completed for the purposes of measuring, verifying, and reporting if the goals of energy savings have been achieved successfully. In this paper, the forms of MRV plans and reports were developed with the detailed descriptions for each form and instructions of completion. Based on the developed forms of MRV plans and reports, future studies need to developed guidelines to explain how to fill out these forms considering the application cases by ESCO technology and facility.

  • The assessment of the potential for the design of marine renewable energy systems is reviewed and the current situation for marine renewable energy is promising. The most studied forms of marine renewable energy are ocean wind energy, ocean wave energy and tidal energy. Wind turbine generators include mostly horizontal axis type and vertical axis type. But also more exotic ideas such as a kite design. Wave energy devices consist of designs converting wave oscillations in electric power via a power take off equipment. Such equipment can take multiple forms to be more efficient. Nevertheless, the technology alone cannot be the only step towards marine renewable energy. Many other steps must be overcome: policy, environment, manpower as well as consumption habits. After reviewing the current conditions of marine renewable energy development, the authors analyzed the key factors for developing a strong marine renewable energy industry and pointed out the huge potential of marine renewable energy.

  • In this study, simple functional forms which could predict decay heat are referred to and modified in order to analyse more easily long-term behavior of decay heat generated from domestic PWR and CANDU spent fuel. To reduce the difference between the predicted data by functional forms and ORIGEN 2 results and to predict the decay heat under the important parameter(s), sensitivity analysis is performed. By introducing the identified hey parameter, turnup, into the functional forms, the decay heat of spent fuels within a limited rangs of cooling time(3~500 years) becomes predictable for various turnup rates. The predicted decay heat of spent fuels with representative turnup rates such as 33, 37 and 40 GWD/MTU by the functional forms is in so good agreement with ORIGEN 2 results within $\pm$10% difference over the cooling time from 1 to 10$^{5}$ years that the functional forms presented here may be used for engineering purposes such as the thermal design and assessment of the facilities associated with spent fuel management.

  • The world is facing environmental problem described as climate change and exhaustion of fossil fuel. In order to solve theses problems, importance of renewable energy is extremely growing. For stable energy supply, it is need to apply hybrid renewable energy systems in urban-scale, because some renewable energy system' outputs are greatly influenced by climatic condition. Especially, solar irradiation and wind velocity are influenced by urban geometric environment as well as climatic condition. Therefore it is necessary to evaluate the renewable energy potential according as urban form. This study aims to evaluate the potential of solar energy and wind energy in urban-scale and classify urban type according as characteristics of urban forms. The results of this study will be used to develop renewable energy system application guidelines for urban and energy planning.

  • The native forms of common globular proteins are in their most stable state but the native forms of plasma serpins (serine protease inhibitors) show high-energy state interactions. The high-energy state strain of a ${\alpha}$$_1$-antitrypsin, a prototype serpin, is distributed throughout the whole molecule, but the strain that regulates the function directly appears to be localized in the region where the reactive site loop is inserted during complex formation with a target protease.(omitted)

  • An important property of glass and ceramic solid waste forms is processability. Tellurite materials with low melting temperatures and high halite solubilities have potential as solid waste forms. Crystalline TiTe3O8 was synthesized through a solid-state reaction between stoichiometric amounts of TiO2 and TeO2 powder. The resultant TiTe3O8 crystal had a three-dimensional (3D) structure consisting of TiO6 octahedra and asymmetric TeO4 seesaw moiety groups. The melting temperature of the TiTe3O8 powder was 820℃, and the constituent TeO2 began to evaporate selectively from TiTe3O8 above around 840℃. The leaching rate, as determined using the modified American Society of Testing and Materials static leach test method, of Ti in the TiTe3O8 crystal was less than the order of 10-4 g·m-2·d-1 at 90℃ for durations of 14 d over a pH range of 2-12. The chemical durability of the TiTe3O8 crystal, even under highly acidic and alkaline conditions, was comparable to that of other well-known Ti-based solid waste forms.

  • The increase of exhaust gas which is caused by with the industry activity which follows in the Industrial Revolution of the human being has had an influence on the globe climate system so that causes the problem of the greenhouse effect. As a comprehensive countermeasures, it has been prompted to save energy, build a structure environmentally friendly and use renewable energy sources that are continually replenished by nature-the sun, the wind, the Earth's heat, and plants. In addition, new technologies that turn these fuels into usable forms of energy-most often electricity, but also heat, chemicals or mechanical power have been applied actively to the social infrastructure. Therefore, there should be methods to manage forms of renewable energy effectively and securely. This paper proposes the web-based monitoring system for the wind power system of these methods and introduces the real web-based monitoring system installed in Daegwallyeong.

  • The binding interaction of ethidium to a series of synthetic deoxyoligonucleotides containing a B-Z junction between left-handed Z-DNA and right-handed B-DNA, was studied. The series of deoxyoligonucleotides was designed so as to vary a dinucleotide step immediately adjacent to a B-Z junction region. Ethidium binds to the right-handed DNA forms and hybrid B-Z forms which contain a B-Z junction, in a highly cooperative manner. In a series of deoxyoligonucleotides, the binding affinity of ethidium with DNA forms which were initially hybrid B-Z forms shows over an order of magnitude higher than that with any other DNA forms, which were entirely in B-form DNA The cooperativity of binding isotherms were described by an allosteric binding model and by a neighbor exclusion model. The binding data were statistically compared for two models. The conformation of allosterically converted DNA forms under binding with ethidium is found to be different from that of the initial B-form DNA as examined by CD spectra. The ratio of the binding constant was interestingly correlated to the free energy of base unstacking and the conformational conversion of the dinucleotide. The more the base stacking of the dinucleotide is unstable, or the harder the conversion of B to A conformation, the higher the ratio of the binding constant of ethidium with the allosterically converted DNA forms and with the initial B-Z hybrid forms. DNA sequence around a B-Z junction region affects the binding affinity of ethidium. The results in this study demonstrate that ethidium could preferentially interact with unusual DNA structures.
