Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the adhesion of Candida albicans according to build angle in 3D printing denture base resin. Methods: The 3D printing was performed by setting the build angle of the disk type specimen designed by CAD program at 0 degree, 30 degrees, 60 degrees, and 90 degrees. Surface roughness was measured using a non-contact 3D microsurface profiler. The specimens were incubated in Candida albicans suspension for 24 hours. The attached Candida albicans were detached by cell scraper. The suspension of detached C. albicans was serially diluted and plated on Trypticase soy broth. After 48 hours of incubation, total colony forming unit was counted. Results: There was no significant difference in surface roughness(Sa) between the test groups, but the interlayer boundary was observed. There was no statistically significant difference in total colony forming units of Candida albicans between the test groups. Conclusion: There was no difference in the average surface roughness and adhesion of Candida albicans between the specimens. It is considered that the setting of the build angle should be set considering the accuracy or strength rather than the roughness of the surface.
Terphenyl dialdehyde 6 was obtained in 17.4% overall yield through oxidative coupling, methylation, and bisformylation reactions starting from p-cresol, and then coupled intermolecularly using McMurry reaction to give 22-membered macrocylic host 7 in 14.4% yield. In crystal structure host 7 has $C2_v$ symmetry with cis-cis configuration of two double bonds. Four methoxy groups adjacent to double bonds and the other two methoxy groups are directed opposite side, forming a cavity which can nest a guest. The cavity is filled by two inward-turned methyl groups out of four methoxy groups adjacent to double bonds. The kinetically controlled reaction mechanism leading to cis product was proposed. The cation binding properties of 7 were obtained using picrate extraction experiment from $D_2O\; into\; CDCl_3\; at\; 25^{\circ}C$. All the spherical cations (from $Li^+ to NH4^+)$ are complexed with free energies of $7.3{\pm}0.3$ kcal/mol.
We present a new galaxy classification scheme in the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) [$3.4{\mu}m$]-[$12{\mu}m$] color versus $12{\mu}m$ luminosity diagram. In this diagram, galaxies can be classified into three groups in different evolutionary stages. Late-type galaxies are distributed linearly along "MIR star-forming sequence" identified by Hwang et al. (2012). Some early-type galaxies show another sequence at [3.4]-[12] $(AB){\simeq}-2.0$, and we call this 'MIR blue sequence'. They are quiescent systems with old stellar population older than 10 Gyr. Between the MIR star-forming sequence and the MIR blue sequence, some early- and late-type galaxies are sparsely distributed, and we call these galaxies 'MIR green cloud galaxies'. Interestingly, both MIR blue sequence galaxies and MIR green cloud ones lie on the red sequence in the optical color-magnitude diagram. However, MIR green cloud galaxies have lower stellar masses and younger stellar populations (smaller $D_n4000$) than MIR blue sequence galaxies, suggesting that MIR green cloud galaxies are in the transition stage from MIR star-forming sequence galaxies to MIR blue sequence ones. We present differences in various galaxy properties between the three MIR classes using a multi-wavelength data, combined with the WISE and Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 10, of local (0.03 < z < 0.07) galaxies.
Taking the great advantage of Subaru's wide field coverage both in the optical and in the near infrared, we have been providing panoramic views of distant clusters and their surrounding environments over the wide redshift range of 0:4 < z < 3. From our unique data sets, a consistent picture has been emerging that the star forming activity is once enhanced and then truncated in galaxy groups in the outskirts of clusters during the course of cluster assembly at z < 1. Such activity is shifted into cluster cores as we go further back in time to z ~ 1.5. At z = 2 - 2.5, we begin to enter the epoch when massive galaxies are actually forming in the cluster core. And by z ~ 3, we eventually go beyond the major epoch of massive galaxy formation. It is likely that the environmental dependence of star forming activity is at least partly due to the external environmental effects such as galaxy-galaxy interaction in medium density regions at z < 1, while the intrinsic effect of galaxy formation bias overtakes the external effect at higher redshifts, resulting in a large star formation activity in the cluster center.
The paddling technique is a Kind of secondary treatments in the process of ceramic forming, which appeared in the Chinese Neolithic Age pottery making. In the case of Korean prehistoric pottery making, it was first introduced together with the kiln firing method from Tongpei region(東北地方) of China in Yan(燕) dynasty occupation period. Korean archaeologists have recognized the adoption of the new technologies as a drastic innovation of ceramic production. And most of them have thought that the diffusion of new techniques, accompanied by the migration of the northern ethnic groups, had been immediately followed by the innovative changes in pottery procdution. However, rejecting the arguments from the simple diffusionist viewpoint, I have first tried to describe the innovation processes in the ceramic production systems as a spatio-temporal process. The paddling technique by the cord-wound paddle, which was first introduced among the various paddles, was associated with the new sort of pottery, round pots fired in low temperature of reducing atmosphere condition. The cord-marked round pots first tried by the indigenous potters in the southern part of Korean were characterized by the relatively low leveled techniques in forming and firing, compared to those of north-east China. The techniques of the round pots were hardly improved in the domestic production system until the appearance of the fully-specialized one. The specialized production system of the round pot, which appeared first in the mid-western region of Korea, showed the diversified paddling techniques and made the noticeable improvements in forming and firing processes.
We studied recent evolution of M31 and M33 with star-forming regions and hot massive stars. We use GALEX far-UV and near-UV imaging to detect the star-forming regions and trace the recent star formation across the entire disk of galaxies. The GALEX imaging, combining deep sensitivity and entire coverage of these galaxies, provides a complete picture of the recent star formation in M31 and M33, and its variation with environment throughout these galaxies. We also show results from recent extensive surveys in M31 and M33 with Hubble Space Telescope multi-wavelength data including UV filters, which imaged several regions at a linear resolution of less than half a pc in these galaxies. Both datasets allow us to study the hierarchical structure of star formation: the youngest stellar groups are the most compact, and are often arranged withing broader, sparser structures. The derived recent star-formation rates are rather similar for the two galaxies, when scaled for the respective areas.
Synthesis and liquid-crystallinites of thermotropic polyamides and copolyamides were investigated. Thermotropic polyamides and copolyamides containing a flexible spacer in the backbone were obtained by the two or three components melt polycondensations of 4,4'-dicarboxy-${\alpha}$${\omega}$-diphenoxy alkane as an A components, 4,4'-diacetoamido-3,3' dimethoxybiphenyl as a B, 1,4-diacetoamido-benzene (diacetylated p-phenylenediamine) was used as another amide-group-forming minomer. The content of the amide groups in the thermotropic polyamide and Copolyamide widely varied depending on the structure of the amide-group forming diacetoamido monomers. A polymer (9CLDI) showed a typical nematic texture between 218$^{circle}C$ ($T_m$) and 345$^{circle}C$($T_i$) The melting points of the members of this series of polymers increased with decreasing methylene spacer. The polymer structure and mesmorphic nature were examined by solid and solution ${^13}C$-NMR spectroscopy, cross polarizing microscopy with a hot stage.
This study was performed to investigate the effect of olive oil diet on the immune response in ICR male mice. Experimental diets of 4 groups were fed ad libitum to the ICR male mice for 27 days. The results of this study were summarized as followings: 1. 10% Olive oil diet group as compared with the control diet group significantly decreased liver weight rate but significantly increased hemagglutination titer (HA), Arthus reaction, delayed type reaction (DTH), rosette forming cell (RFC), and phagocyte activity. 2. 20% Olive oil hypersensitivity diet group as compared with the control diet group significantly increased body weight gain, liver weight rate, and HA but significantly decreased Arthus reaction, DTH, RFC, phagocyte activity, and peripheral circulating white blood cell (WBC). 3. 30% Olive oil diet group as compared with the control diet group significantly increased liver weight rate but significantly decreased body weight gain, Arthus reaction, plaque forming cell (PFC), DTH, RFC, phagocyte activity, and WBC. The results showed that the increase of olive oil doses significantly decreased humoral and cellular immune responses, phagocyte activity, and WBC.
We examine the effect of environment on star formation activity of a sample of galaxy group catalogue given in Tempel et al.(2012) constructed from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 8. In order to compare galaxies in different environment, we classify galaxies into two groups: galaxies in low density environment and galaxies in high density environment. After matching colors and apparent magnitudes of the galaxies, we are left with 5912 galaxies in each of the environment category. The fraction of star-forming galaxies in low-density environment is ~34%, higher than ~15% in high-density environment. Star-forming galaxies in low density environment have a higher average SFR value than those in high density environment. The bulge-to-disk ratio for galaxies in two different environment shows bimodal distribution. Regardless of the environment, we find galaxies with high star formation rate despite their red (g-r) color, for which the origin enhancing their star formation rate is investigated.
