Attitude toward Fashion Cultural Products and Purchase Intention - A Comparison of American, Japanese, and Chinese Who Visited Korea - (패션문화상품에 대한 태도와 구매의도 -방한 미국인, 일본인, 중국인의 비교 연구-)

  • An empirical study was conducted on fashion cultural products, targeting foreigners from diverse cultures. Its purpose was to identify foreigners' attitudes toward fashion cultural products of which design sources were derived from the Korean culture. The quantitative research using questionnaires was targeted at Americans, Chinese and Japanese who visited Korea. The questionnaires were back-translated into different languages for completion by the test subjects. Out of a total of 424 surveys returned, 393 were deemed usable. As a result of data analyses using SPSS 12.0 and AMOS 5.0, we found that: First, two attitude factors, the authenticity and aesthetic elements, exerted a significant effect on the intent to purchase. However, the last attitude factor, care and carriage convenience, did not significantly influence the purchase intention. Second, there was no significant difference in the attributes regarded as important when purchasing fashion cultural product between people from the U.S. and Japan. However, people from China showed differences in the attributes compared to the U.S. and Japan. Third, we found that attitudes toward fashion cultural products were different among respondents of three countries. It was revealed that the Chinese liked Korea's fashion cultural products the most, followed by Americans and Japanese. This research is significant because investigating foreigners' attitudes toward fashion cultural products for reaching out to a broader market abroad would contribute to help building an market entry planning.

Digital Technology Practices and Vaccine Campaign in Korea: International Perceptions on Health Diplomacy amid COVID-19 Crisis

  • The purpose of this study is two-fold: first, to discuss the concept of health diplomacy and the Korean government's response to contain the COVID-19 pandemic; second, to assess and compare assumptions of variances about foreigners' perceptions of how Korea is leveraging digital technology in battling the coronavirus spread, and its vaccine campaign; through the lenses of Chinese, Filipino, and Pakistani foreign nationals who are currently living in Korea. A total of 219 foreigners responded to the survey. The collected data were analyzed as percentages, mean averages, t-test, and ANOVA for statistical analysis. Results show that Korea is utilizing its digital technology practices and vaccine campaign in battling the pandemic through efforts of health diplomacy. ANOVA indicated significant results and assumptions of variance across three ethnic groups showing the Pakistani population had higher mean scores than the Chinese and Filipino about Korea's health diplomacy during the pandemic. This study contributes to the literature on Korea's digital technology practices and vaccine campaigns amidst the COVID-19 pandemic by promoting its image through health diplomacy efforts. It projects the country's soft image on a global scale, to save the lives of locals and foreign nationals, by providing insights into health diplomacy in Korea.

The Perception and Preference of Americans Residing in Korea Traditional Food (한국전통음식에 대한 주한 미국인의 인식 및 기호도 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception and preference of Americans residing in Korea for Korean traditional food. Out of 250 questionnaires, 95 respondents were taken. Most of the respondents (96.8%) were experienced in eating Korean food in Korea and 66.3% of them were experienced in eating Korean food in other countries except Korea. On the appearance and color of Korean flood,94.8% and 93.7% of the respondents answered for earth that it was 'Good'. Most of the respondents (95.7%) had much interest in Korean flood. Nevertheless they proposed the improvement in hot and strongly spiced Korean food. The following Korean foods; bibimbap, bulgogi, kalbigui, samgetang, and chapchae were preferred by most Americans. The preference on 11 korean traditional foods was significantly different in gender, age, and period of residence at p<0.05. This study suggests that we need to develop the sauce and seasoning which is suitable for foreigner's taste to improve the popularity of Korean foods. And we also know that foreigners have the trends to avoid selecting the food item which is unknown for them. Therefore, we need to add the information about Korean food ingredient and the cooking method which is not familiar with foreigners on the menu.

The Study on Foreigners' Perception of Business Korean Culture: Concentrated on Foreign Workers after Studying in Korea (비즈니스 한국어 문화에 대한 외국인의 인식 연구 -유학 후 국내 기업에 종사하는 외국인 근로자를 대상으로-)

  • The main purpose of this study is to investigate foreigners' perception regarding Korean business culture and Korean business culture education. People who participated in this study are six foreign workers after studying at the university or graduate school in Korea. A phenomenological qualitative research method was used in this study in order to elicit life experiences from foreign workers who were working in Korea business companies. Therefore, their experience regarding Korean business culture and business culture education were measured by in-depth interviews. This study shows that nun-chi, vertical relationships, and impatience of Koreans are the most difficult culture to foreign workers. They also feel difficulties regarding Koreans' lack of understanding about other cultures. Moreover, these were not difficult components within school life; rather, the most difficult aspects were that they have never learned about the Korean business culture before getting a job. The results show that international students who want to work in Korea companies need to study about the culture of Korean business and revealed the desirability to learn. These results can be used as a foundation for understanding some contents and criterion of Korean business culture and education.

Rest Costume Design with Traditional Image of Korea for Tourist Industry - Centering on Hotel Supply -

  • This study aims to recognize the value of traditional culture and to create 'Korean style rest costume' i.e. in-door clothes for comfort's purpose designed for hotel or other tourist accommodations with its own image. In so doing, national pride and identity will be exalted for Koreans, while an opportunity of cultural expose will be provided for foreigners through the symbols of Korea, which will contribute to the international introduction and representation of Korea. First, this study investigates the external characteristics in forms and structures of Korean style rest costume. Second, questionnaires regarding consciousness of Korean style rest costume and preference in design are distributed to the hotel guest and staff-both domestic and international- to be fir out. Lastly, designed rest costume representing Korean image, based on the results of the survey. Upon investigation, users and employers both preferred two piece style which is separated to upper garment and lower garment. While employers preferred short sleeve, users preferred long sleeves. In colors, employers preferred blue while users preferred white. In garments, both of. the employers and users preferred cotton, towel and cotton flannel. In addition, when introducing rest costume, it will be efficient to distinct the strategy between natives and foreigners, and also distinguish where the rest costume will be used.

  • This study aims at exploring some statistical aspects in response to the increase of foreigners and immigrants within the population of Korea. Such an interest conducts our case study of France with regard to the census and legal systems that restrict definition and measures of foreign population in the country. This study also explores historical background, legal entities and authorities involved in policy-related decision making in census and other statistics, and processes of statistical production on the concerned population. Also, an importance of statistical contributions to the immigration policies is discussed.

  • Purpose - These days, Korean society with more than 2 million foreigners has made multi-cultural society quickly. Multi-cultural society has become popular and anti multi-cultural phenomenon has grown up gradually against Korea's traditional habits. Research design, data, and methodology - European countries that were said to be multi-cultural society had suffered from terror, riot and other social conflicts. The study examined Koreans' racism and anti multi-cultural emotion to investigate the conditions and causes of anti multi-cultural emotion. Further, this study investigates a prevention of the worst case such as Norway terror and the countermeasures compared to each country's social customs. Results - Koreans are not generous to the foreigners. Foreign countries' cases after failures in multi-cultural society might give future implications on multi-cultural society in Korea. Conclusions - Korean society have not produced new one by introducing another races, nationality and culture not cognizing failure experiences of multi-culturalism like Europe. Nonetheless, Korean society shall not give up multi-culturalism. Korean society shall prepare for multi-culturalism society to lessen social conflict as much as possible and not to neglect anti culturalism emotion producing social conflict, and shall investigate the related causes to lessen anti multi-culturalism emotion and to integrate Korean style of multi-culturalism society for Korea as a tool of nation management.

An Exploratory Analysis of Korean News Topics of Chinese Students in Pandemic (팬데믹 상황의 중국인 유학생 뉴스 토픽에 대한 탐색적 분석)

  • The purpose was to examine what kind of discourse about foreigners in the media in a situation where hatred toward foreigners prevailed in a pandemic situation. News data related to Chinese international students(CIS) was collected for 2020, The 11 optimal topics were selected derived through LDA analysis. They were analyzed in an exploratory level, focusing on the relationship with major events per year. The news about CIS in 2020 was intensively linked to reports on the COVID19 situation. There was a tendency to report in response to the presupposes CIS as potential confirmed patients.

Foreign Residents' Experience of Korean Health Care Services (한국 거주 외국인의 의료서비스 경험)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify the experience of health care services by foreign residents in Korea. Method: Participants were 12 foreigners from China, North America, and Japan. Qualitative data were collected using three focus group interviews and analyzed with qualitative content analysis. Results: The participants' experience of health services was categorized as 21 sub-categories, 11 categories and three main categories. The main categories were 'Quality of health care', 'Health care personnel', and 'Health care system and infrastructure'. The main category of 'Quality of health care' included three categories, 'Health care personnel' included another four categories, and 'Health care system and infrastructure' included the remaining four categories. The participants reported positive experiences such as favorable feelings and satisfaction particularly, with the high quality of health care but also negative experiences such as apprehension, distrust, difficulties, and inconvenience in the health care service in Korea. Conclusions: The results of this study can be helpful in the development of strategies to improve health care services for foreigners by providing fundamental information about the foreign residents' experience of health care services in Korea from their perspectives.

Enhancement of Transportation Safety Service for Foreigner Residing in Ansan Through Analysis of Travel Behavior and Traffic Accident (안산거주 외국인 통행실태 및 교통사고 분석을 이용한 교통안전서비스 증진방안 연구)

  • There is a need to provide appropriate transportation safety services to foreigners residing in Korea. The main purpose of this study is to enhance transportation safety services for foreigners. In order to identify the risk of traffic accidents, analysis of traffic accidents was conducted using a survey of foreigner travel behavior. According to the results of this model, the study suggests directions to achieve improvement of traffic safety services for foreigners who are unfamiliar with the transportation systems. The study results show that the risk of traffic accidents is influenced by two factors: comprehension of transport geography and of traffic laws. Necessity of policy is influenced by two factors: comprehension of transportation system and the risk of traffic accidents. Intention of using policy is influenced by two factors: the risk of traffic accidents and necessity of policy. Effect of policy is affected by the intention of using policy. The results also demonstrate that the traffic safety services for foreigner can be described as endogenous variables which are approximately 88% of the traffic safety education, 85% of the demanded multicultural district, and 75% of the portal traffic information. Compared with existing research, this study provides a systematic methodology to evaluate effects and the order of priority in establishing traffic safety policies for foreigners.
