주한 외국인의 한국 식당의 음식 및 써비스에 대한 의견조사 (Food preferences of foreigners residing in Korea)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate foreigners' preferences in Korean foods as served in Korean restaurants. A questionnaire was constructed for this study and sent to foreigners residing in the Seoul area. The study showed that when they have a chance to choose a restaurant for eating out, the decision to choose a Korean-Style restaurant is made on the basis of the special flavor of Korean food as well as the desire to experience Korean traditional food culture. Korean style barbecue, mixed vegetables, and dumplings are preferred by most foreigners. Beef rib stew and pibimbab were also selected frequently. Muk, maeuntang, rice cakes, cold noodles and sea weeds were not preferred.

  • 우리나라는 경제 사회적 구조 변화로 인해 재난에 취약한 계층이 증가하고 있다. 특히, 고령화, 양극화, 국제화 추세가 심화됨에 따라 노인, 장애인, 기초생활수급자, 외국인, 다문화 가정 등 사회적 취약계층으로 불리는 이들이 재난에도 취약한데 흔히, '재난약자'라고 불린다. 재난약자들은 재난 발생시에 일반인과 달리 재난정보 획득에 어려움을 겪는 등, 자력으로 신속한 대응이 어렵기 때문에 특별한 관심과 관련된 정책이 필요하다. 물론, 최근에 재난약자에 대한 연구가 꾸준히 증가하고 있지만 외국인에 대한 논의는 상대적으로 부족하고, 이는 그들에 대한 재난에 대한 이해나 대처방법에 대한 실태를 정확하게 파악하지 못하게 되어 한국인의 시각과 관점에서 관련 정책을 마련하게 되고, 결국 국내 체류 외국인들은 관련 정보를 얻는데 어려움을 겪을 수 밖에 없는 악순환이 반복되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내에 거주하고 있는 외국인 근로자를 대상으로 재난정보에 대한 인식과 획득경로 등에 대한 심층인터뷰를 실시하였다. 인터뷰를 통해 도출된 결과를 바탕으로 국내 체류 외국인 근로자들이 빈번하게 접하는 정보매체를 이해하고, 적극적으로 활용하는 방안 등 실질적인 정보제공을 위한 함의를 도출하였다.

관통상으로 응급실을 내원한 내국인과 외국인 환자의 진료의 차이 (Difference in Management Between Native Koreans and Foreigners with Penetrating Wounds In the Emergency Room)

  • Purpose: With the increasing numbers of foreign residents in Korea, the need for an emergency medical care system for foreign patients seems to be growing. Sometimes, a foreigner admitted to an emergency room is not treated sufficiently due to the absence of insurance, facility in the Korean language, and a guardian. The management of a foreigner with trauma in the ER is difficult due to various problems such as social and economic status. The purpose of this study was to investigate the current management status of foreigners with penetrating wounds in the emergency room. Methods: This study is an analysis of 580 patients that were diagnosed with penetrating wounds in one teaching Hospital from Jan. 1, 2008 to Dec. 31, 2008. We analyzed results according to nationality, alcohol ingestion, intentional or accidental trauma, trauma mechanism, injury severity, management time in the ER, and outcome in the ER. Results: Of the total 580 patients, 486 patients (83.8%) were native Koreans and 94 patients (16.2%) were foreigners. According to the Revised Trauma Score, the average score of native Korean patients was 7.808, and the average score of foreign patients was 7.638. Of native Korean patients, 22.6% had knife wounds while 38.3% of foreign patients did. Of native Korean patients, 17.3% experienced intentional trauma while 33.0% of the foreign patients did. Of native Korean patients, 22.5% had ingested alcohol while 49.4% of the foreigners had. Of native Korean patients, 10.5% were admitted while 7.6% of the foreign patients were. Of native Korean patients, 14.2% were discharged against medical advice (DAMA), while 18.5% of foreign patients were. Of native Korean patients, 1.2% ran away while 8.7% of the foreign patients did. Conclusion: Stabbing was the most common cause of penetrating wounds in foreigner patients in this study. Intentional trauma was more common in foreigners with penetrating wounds than in native Koreans. The severity was higher in foreigners with penetrating wounds than it was in native Koreans, and patients who ran away or were discharged against medical advice were more commonly foreigners with penetrating wounds. Social insurance or policy is needed for the management of foreigners with penetrating wounds.

국내 의료인의 외국인에 대한 편견 (Analysis of Prejudice Toward Foreigners by Nurses and Physicians in Korea)

  • Purpose: To improve the cultural competency of nurses and physicians in Korea by disclosing their degree of prejudice toward foreigners who were major target of international medical tourists. Method: A descriptive research design was employed. Data were collected from a total of 458 nurses and physicians at general hospitals in Korea. Subjects completed questionnaires on their demographic information and prejudice toward foreigners from a cognitive, emotional, and behavioral perspective. Results: While there was a positive attitude toward Caucasian Americans and Japanese, there was a negative prejudice toward Chinese and African Americans. There was an especially high and negative prejudice from a cognitive and behavioral perspective toward Chinese. There was a significant difference in the level of prejudice according to the education level, workplace, and multi-cultural education of Korean health professionals. Conclusion: It is necessary to investigate the negative prejudice toward foreigners of specific races or countries with cautious consideration. We also recommend the development and application of strategies to improve the multi-cultural competency of Korean nurses and physicians.

한국음식과 태국음식에 대한 국내.외국인의 소비자 의식비교 (Consumer survey of foreigners and Koreans about Korean and Thai foods and restaurants)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the consumer perceptions of Koreans and foreigners towards Korean and Thai foods and restaurants. Self-administered questionnaires were collected from 129 foreign residents and 291 Koreans who have been members or the Thai travel association in the seoul area. statistical data analysis was performed using the SPSS v 10.0 program. From the evaluation of Korean and Thai foods and restaurants by foreigners, Thai foods/restaurants showed significantly higher ratings in the attributes of 'Food appearance', 'Food smell', 'Overall food taste', and 'Exotic food taste' In the attributes of 'Use of various food seasonings', 'Variety of food ingredients', 'Variety of menu', 'Food sanitation', and 'Fast restaurant service', Thai food/restaurants showed higher ratings than Koreanfood/restaurants. Korean foods were considered more salty than Thai foods. However, overall satisfaction of Thai and Korean foods/restaurants was similar at about '3.7' points on the 5-point Likert scale. From the evaluation by Koreans, there were no significant differences in the attributes of 'Food appearance', 'Food smell', and 'overall food taste'. however. the rating or 'Exotic food taste' was significantly higher in Thai foods. In the attributes of 'Use of various food seasonings', 'Variety of food ingredients', and 'Variety of menu', Thai food/restaurants showed higher ratings than Korean food/restaurants. Interestingly, the evaluation of sanitation of restaurants was opposite to that of foreigners.

외국인 학습자를 위한 문맥 기반 실시간 국어 문장 교정 (Context Based Real-time Korean Writing Correction for Foreigners)

  • 외국인 유학생과 국내 체류 외국인 등 한국어를 학습하고자 하는 외국인이 지속적으로 증가함에 따라 외국인 한국어 학습자의 교육에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 기존 맞춤법 검사기는 한국인의 사용에 중점을 두고 있어 외국인 한국어 학습자가 사용하기에는 다소 부적절하다. 본 논문에서는 한국어의 문맥 특성과 외국인의 작문 특성을 반영한 한국어 교정 방식을 제안한다. 제안하는 방식에서는 국어 문서에서 자주 사용되는 표현을 추천 교정으로 제시하기 위해 말뭉치를 활용한다. 말뭉치에서 추출된 어절 바이그램에 대한 음절 역색인을 사용하여 입력된 작문에 대한 교정 후보 집합을 얻고, 외국인의 작문 특성을 반영하는 편집거리 계산 방법을 사용하여 순위화된 추천 교정을 제시한다. 구현된 시스템에서는 사용성 향상을 위해 키보드 후킹에 기반한 사용자인터페이스를 제공하여 다른 응용프로그램에서의 입력과 동시에 문장 교정 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 외국인의 작문 환경에 대한 평가에서는 타 시스템에 비해 검출률을 약 45% 향상시켜, 제안된 시스템을 사용하는 경우 외국인 사용자가 스스로 작문 오류를 판단하고 수정할 수 있어 한국어 학습에 많은 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

외국인의 한복에 대한 인식 -중국, 미얀마, 네팔, 베트남을 중심으로- (Foreigners' Perceptions of Hanbok -Focusing on China, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam-)

  • This study used the Q-methodology to identify and categorize the types of subjective perceptions of Korean hanbok among foreigners currently living in Korea, and to explore the characteristics of each type. We used the QUANL PC program to analyze the data. We categorized foreigners' perceptions of hanbok into three types. The first type comprised the "hanbok experience novice tradition affirming" individuals who thought hanbok was beautiful, affirming Korean culture and traditional clothing. They encountered hanbok for the first time upon arriving in Korea. The second type was the "design preference positive change". These individuals thought hanbok's design was beautiful and belived Korea's image improved because of hanbok. The third type was the "change-seeking tradition negative". This group believed that hanbok was not traditional Korean clothing and required modernizing. The first category comprised mostly individuals from Nepal, the second category was Myanmar, and the third category was China. Thus, different nationalities have different perceptions of hanbok. Future research should explore how foreigners from diverse nationalities perceive hanbok and coduct a comparative analysis based on nationality.

외국인 주택 시장과 초국가적 주택 여과 과정: 조선족 사례를 중심으로 (Foreigners' Housing Market and Transnational Housing Filtering Process: Focusing on the Case Study of Korean-Chinese)

  • 본 연구는 지속적으로 구조적 변화를 겪으며 증가하고 있는 외국인의 인구와 주택 소비의 변화가 본국과 이주국의 주택 시장 양쪽 모두에 영향을 미친다는 사실을 밝히는 것에 목적을 둔다. 서울의 조선족 주택 시장의 형성 원인과 변화는 임대료 시장에 있어서 내국인 주택 시장과는 다른 '임대료의 고정 효과'로 인하여 외국인의 유입이 지속적으로 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 순환 이주 의향이 강한 조선족 집단에 의해 분화된 주택 시장의 밀집은 더욱 심화된 형태로 변화하고 있다. 한편 한국에서 이주 경험이 있는 조선족들이 주요 주택 소비자로 부상하면서, 연길시의 부동산 붐을 일으켰다. 조선족의 주택 투자는 연변 대학을 기준으로 '서부'에 집중되어 있는데, 연길시의 주택 공급에 영향을 미치는 도시 기본 계획과 밀접한 연관 관계를 가지고 있다. 이와 같은 이주자의 초국가적 주택 소비로 인하여, 본국과 이주국의 주택 시장을 연결함으로써 두 주택 시장에서 발생하는 여과과정을 동시에 일으켜, '초국가적 주택 여과 과정(Transnational housing filtering process)'이 발생하게 되는 것으로 나타났다.

외국인 고용허가제 도입에 따른 효율적 노동인력 수급에 관한 연구 (A Study on Efficient Work Force Supply-Demand According to the Employment Permit System for Foreigners)

  • The employment permit system for foreigners, which stresses introduction of foreign work force in a legal manner rather than in the position of being trainees, is anticipated to efficiently improve introduction and the overall management system of foreign work force and related difficulties such as illegal alien problems, absurdity on sending laborers overseas. In this paper, a prospective model of supply and demand of work force has been developed basing on various categories of industries and patterns about nationally practical foreign employees to look over efficient supply and demand of work force suiting employment of foreigner among foreign work force policies. To propose the prospective model, we have derived industry- and pattern-related matrixes of foreign laborers basing on Inter-Industry Analysis Method put forth by Professor Leontiyef in 1930, and through the derived matrix assessed repercussions concerning overall domestic industries and foreigner types and decided yearly weight; the capacity of supply and demand of foreign laborers can be compared through proposed statistical estimation and government estimation by combining the determined weight with yearly incomes of foreign laborers. This paper has thoroughly considered the particularity of our employment permit system for foreigners and applied the Weibull distribution and incorporated the dependence of foreign laborers during the limited period of 3 years to the industry relation analysis, ultimately proposing an efficient supply and demand method about domestic foreign work force.

서양인의 조선여행 기록문을 통한 근대 식생활사(食生活史) 연구 (Study on Modern Food Culture History through Records from Foreigners' Chosun Dynasty Travel in the Enlightenment Period)

  • The study presented attempts to analyze and categorize Chosun's food ingredients and culture through a Western perspective based on 32 representative Western documents pertaining to old Korea. Before modernization, Westerners visited Chosun during their visits to old China or Japan. Westerners were most active in Chosun from the open port period to the annexation of Korea to Japan occupation. They were teachers, missionaries, diplomats, and doctors visiting Chosun with personal goals. In 31 book traveler's journal, it records Chosen's mainly produced ingredients, such as grains, spices, fruits, cabbage, chicken, and chestnuts; foods from Chosen include kimchi, soup, and tofu. Foreigners especially liked foods made of eggs and chicken, but they did not enjoy Chosun's lack of sugar and dairy. Thirty-one book foreigners' records describe Chosun's Ondol, kitchen, crock, fermented foods, low dining tables, and chopsticks. Chosun people liked dog meat, unrestrained drinking culture, sungnyung, and tea culture. Foreign documentation on Chosun's food culture allows modern scholars to learn about Chosun people's lifestyles, as if their lives were a vivid picture.
