자동차 조립 작업에서의 노동 조건 변화와 근골격계질환과의 관련성 (Association between Changed Working Conditions and Musculoskeletal Disorders among Automobile Assembly Workers)

  • Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) were a major source of disability and lost work time after 'Foreign Currency Crisis(1998-2000)' in Korea. There is considerable evidence documenting the association between psychosocial risk factors and work disability due to WMSDs. But, there is not much in Korea. The present study aimed to explore the predictive association between the changed working conditions and WMSDs after 'Foreign Currency Crisis' in Korea. A study sample of 8,670 automobile assembly workers were recruited for this study. A structured-questionnaire was used to assess general characteristics, working conditions, and information concerning medical treatment of WMSDs. After adjustment for sociodemographic factors, increased overtime work(OR=1.22), daily work time(OR=1.20), work speed (OR=1.32), number of workers(OR=0.83), supervisory control(OR=1.39), physical load(OR=1.39), and mental load (OR=1.25) were all founded to be significantly associated with WMSDs. This study has shown the importance of changed working conditions in the occurrence of WMSDs. Therefore, it will be necessary to reduce WMSDs with controlling both physical and psychosocial factors.

한국인과 외국인 식품 종사자가 인식하는 한식 이미지와 감정에 대한 비교연구 (Comparative Analysis of Korean Food Images and Emotions Recognized by Korean and Foreign Food Workers)

  • The image and emotions associated with Korean food were investigated in 24 food workers (12 Koreans and 12 foreigners) living in Korea. There are a total of 22 terms for the image of Korean food of Koreans and foreigners, including 7 common words, and a total of 33 terms for emotion, including 10 common words. Differences in the images and emotions associated with the perception of Korean food according to the characteristics of the country and region and Korean food experience were established in foreign food workers. In the images of Korean food, Koreans mentioned 'jeong, sharing, balanced, Korean table setting, seasonal (seasonality), yearning, trust', whereas foreigners mentioned 'red, spicy, distinctive flavor, repulsion, sweet, non-salty, tradition and history, and unfamiliarity'. In Korean food emotions, Koreans were "relaxing, friendly, maternal, hospitable, nostalgic, exotic, clean, trust, delicious, touching, and free", whereas foreigners were "happy, appealing, enthusiastic, excited, uncomfortable, worried, adventurous, nervous, joyful, fusion, food-cultural, and amazing".

한국농촌의 다문화사회의 특징 (A Study on the Traits of Multicultural Society of Rural Areas in Korea)

  • The objectives of this study were to study multicultural society of rural areas in Korea. USA immigration law permits permanent settlement but Korea immigration law prohibits permanent settlement. USA adopted the territorial principle but Korea adopted the personal(nationality) principle. So a large number of people immigrated and settled in USA and mass(collective) immigrants is usual in USA. But foreign workers(temporary immigration) and international marriage women(individual immigrants) is usual in Korea. According to the positive law, foreign workers cannot settle down in Korea. So international marriage women immigrants are main cause of multicultural society in rural areas in Korea. This is the particularity of multicultural society in rural areas in Korea. So it is necessary to differentiate multicultural society policy according to areas and residents. Many peoples see multicultural society from a point of view of human rights and welfare. But it is also necessary to see multicultural society from a point of view of economic and policy.

Ethnic Differences in the Metabolism of Toluene: Comparisons between Korean and Foreign Workers Exposed to Toluene

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the individual characteristics, lifestyle habits, exposure levels, and genetic diversity of xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes involved in toluene metabolism in Korean and foreign workers exposed to toluene at a manufacturing plant. This study was conducted to determine the effects of culture or ethnicity on toluene metabolism. The results showed that blood and urinary toluene concentrations were dependent on the level of exposure to toluene. We analyzed the correlation between toluene metabolism and genetic diversity in glutathione S-transferase (GST) (M1), GSTT1, and cytochrome p-450 (CYP) $2E1^*5$ as well as lifestyle habits (smoking, drinking, and exercise habits). The results revealed significant correlations between toluene metabolism and GSTM1 and GSTT1 genetic diversity, as well as smoking and exercise.

커피 로스팅 공정에서 발생되는 향기물질의 유해성 고찰 및 노동자 건강보호 방안 (A Review on the Hazards of Flavoring Chemicals in Coffee Roasting Proces)

  • Objectives: This study was based on the occurrence of a coffee roasting process-related disorder(bronchiolitis obliterans; published by NIOSH in the US) among workers exposed to chemicals called diacetyl in a coffee processing facility. Flavorings added to coffee contain diacetyl and 2,3-pentanedione, all of which are subject to exposure in a number of food manufacturing processes, including coffee roasting, grinding, and packaging. Therefore, this study aims to review the toxicity to workers related to food processing and food additive manufacturing to prevent occupational diseases. Methods: We surveyed the related literature, domestic and international references, and the status of relevant domestic and foreign professional organizations. The present situation of workers was investigated by reviewing literature on the safety and health of workers in the coffee roasting process using domestic and foreign literature and presentations. Expert advisory opinions were reflected, and experts were consulted by participating in domestic and overseas academic conferences. Results: Most of the fragrance materials for coffee were harmful and hazardous substances according to the GHS classification, and research was carried out through a second external consultation. A literature review on the measurement of air pollutant emissions from coffee roasters and the estimation of air pollutant emissions during coffee roasting examined the characteristics of pollutants emitted during coffee roasting. Conclusions: Two chemicals identified as causing bronchiolitis obliterans in the coffee roasting process are believed to explain why the disease is difficult to treat. This information can be used effectively in the future prevention of this disease. Future studies should clearly identify the potential for toxicity of alpha-diketones and the bases of OELs in relation to the occurrence of obstructive bronchiolitis, including measurement of various organic compounds and alpha-diketones from ground coffee, as well as various coffee grinds and coffee bean varieties. In particular, it is necessary to clarify the current understanding of the dose-response relationship between alpha-diketone and lung disease in workers involved in coffee roasting.

패밀리 레스토랑 직원들의 식품 위생 및 안전 지식에 관한 연구 (A Study on Restaurant Workers' Knowledge about Food Hygiene and Safety)

  • 본 연구는 서울 경기도에 위치한 패밀리 레스토랑에 근무하는 직원들을 대상으로 식품 위생과 식품 안전 지식 수준을 2008년 10월 10일부터 10월 31일까지 조사하였으며, SPSS를 이용하여 149부(회수율 82.8%)를 분석하였다. 설문조사에 참여한 조사대상자의 정기 교육 이수는 79.9%, 정기 교육 이수의 경우 국내 기업 직원 76.7%, 국외 기업 82.9%로 조사되었다. 식품 위생 및 식품 안전 영역별 전체평균 점수는 식중독과 식품은 3.95점/5점, 개인 위생은 2.37점/3점, 식품 위생 및 환경위생은 6.41점/9점, 식품 안전은 1.86점/3점으로 전체 평균은 14.03점/20점(71.5점/100점)으로 나타났다. 전체점수 비교에서는 국내 기업이 13.74점/20점, 국외 기업이 14.3점/20점으로 국외 기업이 높게 나타났는데, 국내 기업과 국외 기업 비교 시 식중독과 식품 영역이 주방 직원과 홀 직원에서 유의적인 영향을 미쳤다. 그리고 정기 교육 이수자그룹이 네 영역 모두 높은 점수를 보여 정기 교육의 필요성과 교육의 효과를 입증하였고, 지식 수준에서 낮은 정답율을 보인 항목으로 '위험 온도 범주', '세균의 증식', '해동 방법', '냉각 방법', '온도 관리'로 시간-온도 관리에 대한 교육이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 인구통계학적으로 본 차이검증에서는 소속, 학력, 직장 경력(현재, 전체), 정기 교육 수혜 여부가 유의적인 차이를 나타냈는데, 특히 정기 교육 수혜에서는 교육 이수자 그룹이 네 영역 보두 높은 점수를 보여 정기 교육의 효과를 입증하였다.

남녀직장인의 인적자원개발이 직무만족과 임금수준에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Human Resource Development on Employed Workers' Job Satisfaction and Wage)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of human resource development on the job satisfaction and wage among employed workers. A sample of 3,578 employed workers was selected from Korea Labor Panel Data. For data analysis, t-test and multiple regression were used. The major findings were as follows: First, the employed workers who had experiences of human resource development had more certificates of job-related qualification, more employed in government-invested organization or foreign company regularly than the counterpart. Second, the employed workers' wage was affected by gender, age, educational attainment, as well as whether they had experiences of human resource development. Third, the factors that influence employed workers' job satisfaction were gender, age, educational attainment, job regularity, having certificate of job-related qualification or not, and having experiences of human resource development or not. From the findings, it can be concluded that the employed workers' wage and job satisfaction were improved by the human resource development.

외국인 유입에 따른 보건의료재정 변화 및 지속가능성 제고를 위한 대응방안 연구 (A Study on the Responses to the Change of Health and Medical Finance and Sustainability of the Influencing Foreigners)

  • Purposes: The problem in the recent immigration policy and social policy changes for foreigners is that the preliminary analysis or research on the actual impact of the influx of foreigners has not been done enough in Korea yet.. This study is to examine the impact of the Korean health insurance finances on the influx of foreigners. Approach: This study analyzed the health insurance statistics for foreigners and overseas Koreans of the Health Insurance Corporation from 2013 to 2017. The data is the "Status of Health Insurance Premiums for Nationals, Foreigners, and Overseas Koreans from 2013 to 2017" submitted by the National Health Insurance Service to the Health and Welfare Committee during the 2018 National Audit Period. Findings: To summarize the analysis, first, the proportion of foreigners was only 1% of all subscribers (1.7% at work, 1.9% in regions) until 2017. Second, employees at work have a lower pay-to-pay ratio, and local subscribers have a higher pay-to-pay rate, regardless of nationality. Third, as immigrants are mostly concentrated in younger ages, they are healthy and use of hospitals is relatively low. Fourth, in terms of gender distribution, there are many women of childbearing age due to marriage immigration among foreign local subscribers, and more men use hospitals than workers who have a high proportion of males due to childbirth. In conclusion, the impact of immigration on health insurance finances is not large, and has a positive effect on finances. Practical Implications: If we simply consider the financial aspect, encouraging foreigners to subscribe to health insurance has a positive effect on finances. In particular, the more foreign workers are enrolled, the greater the financial gain. In particular, increasing the employment of foreign women through language education, vocational training, and employment support will help finance health insurance. One of the reasons foreign subscribers have a positive impact on health insurance finance is the low medical utilization rate. It can be said that young and healthy foreigners use fewer hospitals and clinics, but another aspect means that foreigners have difficulty using health insurance for various reasons. Therefore, various supports must be accompanied so that foreign subscribers can use medical services when necessary.

종사상 지위별 음식 배달 종사자의 이륜차 산업재해 특성 분석 (Characteristic Analysis of Occupational Motorcycle Accidents for Food Delivery Workers by Employment Status)

  • This study analyzes the characteristics of occupational accidents of food delivery via motorcycle in terms of accident probability and work-days. Depending on their employment status, food-delivery workers were divided into "employed" workers (who work for restaurants) and "special-type" workers (who work for delivery platforms). Collected data include occupational accident-information during the last two years (1,468 cases for employed workers and 4,899 cases for special-type workers) and their risk information such as age, work experience, accident location, season of the accident, and weather conditions. The study finds that special-type workers had a significantly higher accident probability for the younger age group (80.8%), while employed workers had more accidents in both 20's or younger (34.9%) and 50's or older (25.4%). The number of work-days-lost was higher for special-type workers with less work experience, and it decreased with increasing work experience. Moreover, the chance for accidents was higher at night time (55%) than for day time (45%) for special-type workers as well as for employed workers. The number of work-days-lost was higher in foreign workers (180.79 days) than in Korean workers (121.44 days). Accident probability (30.7%) and work-days-lost (136.2 days) was higher in winter than in other seasons. In addition, accidents-per-day was higher on snowy days (12.7 cases per day) than rainy (8.1) and windy days (7.1). In addition, it was found that deadly accidents mainly caused injuries to face, head, and chest, while non-deadly accidents affected mainly the legs and feet. This study enables the development of better policies to prevent accidents of food delivery workers.

세계화와 "잊어버림"의 정치 : 안산시 원곡동의 외국인 노동자 거주지역에 대한 연구 (Globalization and the Politics of "Forgetting" : A Study on a Foreign Immigrant Community in Wongok-dong, Ansan)

  • 본 논문은 한국에서 외국인 노동자들이 세계화의 추진과 관련된 조절의 과정 속에서 어떻게 주변화되고 '잊혀져'왔는지, 그리고 이러한 '잊어버림(forgetting)'의 정치가 어떻게 외국인 노동자들의 집단 거지주에 영향을 미쳤는지 살펴 보고자 한다. 보다 구체적으로 안산시 원곡동에 형성된 외국인 집단거주지를 대상으로, 첫째 안산으로의 외국인 노동자들의 급속한 유입과 원곡동에 노동자 거주지의 성장을 초래한 정치경제적, 지리적, 사회적 용인에 대해 살펴보고, 둘째로 어떻게 원곡동의 외국인 컴퓨니티의 성장이 세계화의 추진과 외국인 노동자의 도입과 관련하여 다양한 지리적 규모에서 나타나는 '배제(exclusion)'와 '포섭(inclusion)'의 정치적 과정 속에서 이루어지는지 알아보고자 한다. 이 사례 연구를 바탕으로, 본 연구는 세계화와 함께 나타나는 '배제'와 '잊혀짐'이 세계화 과정의 필연적 결과물이라고 보기 보다는, 세계화를 만들어내는 다양한 공간적 규모에서의 '조절' 과정 속에서, 다양한 이해와 사고들이 서로 상호작용하고 타협하는 과정 속에서 '배제'와 '포섭'의 행위들이 서로 복잡하게 섞이는 정치적인 과정의 결과로 이해하는 것이 보다 타당함을 주장한다.
