  • In this study, an application was developed to reduce the work between labor and safety managers and to hire better workers when hiring workers. With the expected increase in foreign workers in the future, the number of illegal workers will also increase. As a result, accident and on-site management are becoming more difficult due to insufficient information collection of workers. Therefore, it was possible to secure on-site safety through an application that could collect accurate information and reduce the time of information exchange between safety managers and labor managers. In addition, the application was designed to help the safety manager identify the faithful workers more quickly when re-employment of the day laborers if many day laborers were assessed and filled out as they were. This anticipates the expected effect of shortening the construction period. The current application collected necessary information through an interview with the site manager. If the company collects more information needed in the field and has big data than it has collected necessary information so far, it will be highly competitive in the market as it can improve the completeness of applications by establishing opinions and reflecting information accordingly.

Because it has the properties such as the singularity, the outdoor using, a sense of the season unlike other industries. In order to analyze the effect of a reduction of working time on the construction industry, the example of a reduction of working time in domestic other industries related with it was analyzed intensively first. And an example in Japan, which is similar to our existing related laws and industrial structure among foreign construction industries was analyzed, and a relation with the domestic construction industries and an issue were drown a conclusion. • Since China was admitted to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on December 11, 2001, China has sped up its active participation in the competition of the world economy by lifting its trade and investment restrictions and limits. Its trading system is getting more and more free and its huge market with a population of 1.3 billion has been getting more and more open. With Chinas WTO accession, China has been honoring its commitments to its WTO members by complying with international business practices and WTO rules. For example, it will cut down its import tariffs for automobiles from the present 80% to 25% by 2006. Its financial sector and service industries are open to foreign investors now. As Chinas biggest business partner, Japan has benefited tremendously from Chinas open policies and deepening economic reform. In order to reduce the costs of production, a large number of enterprises from Japan have set up production bases in China since a Chinese workers wages accounts for only one tenth of those of a Japanese worker on the average. Japan has become one of Chinas biggest investors on a par with the United States of America (USA). How are the Japanese enterprises in Japan and in China adjusting themselves to the rapid changes of the Chinese market? What characteristics do the Japanese enterprises in China have? What effects has Chinas WTO accession had on those Japanese enterprises that have invested in China? This paper finds answers to the above questions. It at first reviews the Sino-Japanese economic and trade relations since 1980s, then analyses the situation and characteristics of Japanese-invested enterprises in China, and explores their problems in China. Finally it puts forward some suggestions for the Japanese enterprises in China.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of the SNS usage time depending on SNS motive of the youth workers. Although previous studies revealed that there are many motivations for SNS usage, it is not known which factors determine usage time of each SNS motive. In this study, we constructed the unbalanced panel data of the Korean Education & Employment Panel data. Among three different SNS motives such as information exchange, social networking, and fun pursuit, gender, physical health, extraversion, and conscientiousness affected the usage of SNS when the motivation was information exchange. When it was personal connection, the size of organization, education, physical health, subjective happiness, job satisfaction, neuroticism, and agreeableness did. When it was fun & interest, foreign company, status of children, subjective happiness, and job satisfaction did. Based on the findings, we discussed theoretical and practical implications.

  • This is a study about the audience's aspect of decoding the photography and words comprising photojournalism. For this study, the way of audience's decoding five pictures depicting a foreign worker's death and the captions for each were analyzed. Ethnographic method was used to find distinctive features of the audiences in decoding the pictures. Picture images without any title and caption shown to audiences bring quite different decodings from those of picture images titled and captioned. This led to the following three conclusions. First, picture image added by caption transforms the way the audience decode. Second, the cultural background of an audience works as a major variable, which means how the audience decode the picture image depends on what sort of cultural background the audience has. Third, it is also learned that picture image not captioned would not be able to represent the reality faithfully. The author made an experimental trial in this thesis how the communication process works successfully in a reality that photojournalists tried to represent and the way the audience decode it for the successful communication in photojournalism.

  • Purpose - This paper empirically investigates the relationship between country governance quality and worker remittances from foreign countries. Because remittances can be a source of funds for economic development and smoothing economic crises in developing countries, the related topic has been a concern for policy-makers and academic researchers. This paper divides the motives of remittances into altruistic and investment motives through existing papers, and then considers the governance quality the remittance receiving country as one of the determinants of remittances. Design/methodology - Our empirical model considers whether governance quality can affect the volume of remittances, and uses altruistic and investment factors studied in the literature. To do this, a two-step approach is taken. First, the panel data are examined via pooled OLS, random effects, and Tobit estimation. Second, the paper reduces six governance indicators into one variable, Governance, using the principal component technique (PCA) for a robustness check. Findings - The main findings can be summarized as follows. The negative governance variable in the estimation results shows a lower governance quality that induces workers to send savings to their home countries. This means that a country with poor governance quality seems to have more remittance inflows from abroad. It also reveals that poor governance quality is more relevant to an altruistic motive rather than an investment motive, in general. The positive per capita GDP variable shows the investment motive for developed countries. Originality/value - Existing papers have focused on various factors related to the motives of remittances. However, governance quality effects on remittance inflows have not been fully studied so far. This paper considers governance quality in an estimation equation explicitly as one of the determinants of remittances. This area of study is needed, in theory and empirically, in order to fully understand the relationship between governance and remittances.

  • This study analyzes the characteristics of occupational accidents of food delivery via motorcycle in terms of accident probability and work-days. Depending on their employment status, food-delivery workers were divided into "employed" workers (who work for restaurants) and "special-type" workers (who work for delivery platforms). Collected data include occupational accident-information during the last two years (1,468 cases for employed workers and 4,899 cases for special-type workers) and their risk information such as age, work experience, accident location, season of the accident, and weather conditions. The study finds that special-type workers had a significantly higher accident probability for the younger age group (80.8%), while employed workers had more accidents in both 20's or younger (34.9%) and 50's or older (25.4%). The number of work-days-lost was higher for special-type workers with less work experience, and it decreased with increasing work experience. Moreover, the chance for accidents was higher at night time (55%) than for day time (45%) for special-type workers as well as for employed workers. The number of work-days-lost was higher in foreign workers (180.79 days) than in Korean workers (121.44 days). Accident probability (30.7%) and work-days-lost (136.2 days) was higher in winter than in other seasons. In addition, accidents-per-day was higher on snowy days (12.7 cases per day) than rainy (8.1) and windy days (7.1). In addition, it was found that deadly accidents mainly caused injuries to face, head, and chest, while non-deadly accidents affected mainly the legs and feet. This study enables the development of better policies to prevent accidents of food delivery workers.
