  • Chemotaxis is the directed movement of cells in gradients of signaling molecules, an essential biological process that underlies morhpogenesis during development, and the recruitment of immune cells to sites of infection. Especially, bacterial chemotaxis has utilized as an important prelude to study metabolism, prey-predator relationship, symbiosis, other ecological interactions in microbial communities. Recently, novel analytical formats integrated with microfluidics were introduced to investigate the chemotaxis of the cells with the precise control of chemical gradient and small volume of cells. In this study, we present a method to detect bacterial chemotaxis by direct fluidic contacting. The developed fluidic-handling method is driven by capillary force, hydrophobic barrier and a cohesion force between fluids. We have investigated the chemotactic response of E Coli. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa to three kinds of chemoeffectors such as HEPES buffer, peptone and chloroform.

  • This study designed and implemented a query model for consecutive analyses of dynamic multivariate graph data. First, the query model consists of two procedures; setting the discriminant function, and determining an alteration method. Second, the query model was implemented as a query system that consists of a query panel, a graph visualization panel, and a property panel. A Node-Link Diagram and the Force-Directed Graph Drawing algorithm were used for the visualization of the graph. The results of the queries are visually presented through the graph visualization panel. Finally, this study used the data of worldwide import & export data of small arms to verify our model. The significance of this research is in the fact that, through the model which is able to conduct consecutive analyses on dynamic graph data, it helps overcome the limitations of previous models which can only perform discrete analysis on dynamic data. This research is expected to contribute to future studies such as online decision making and complex network analysis, that use dynamic graph models.

  • The rolling piston type-rotary compressor has been widely used for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems due to its compactness and high-speed operation. The present analysis is part of a research program directed toward maximizing the advantages of refrigerant compressors. The study of lubrication characteristics in critical sliding components is essential for the design of refrigerant compressors. Therefore, theoretical investigation of the lubrication characteristics of a rotary compressor used for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems was studied. The Newton-Raphson method was used for the partial elastohydrodynamic lubrication analysis between the vane and the rolling piston of a rotary compressor. The results showed that the rotational speed of a shaft and the discharge pressure significantly influence the friction force and the energy loss between the vane and the rolling piston.

  • The rolling piston type rotary compressor has become one of the most successful types because of its compactness and high-speed operation. The analysis described here is part of a research program directed toward maximising these advantages in refrigerant compressors. The study of lubrication characteristics in the critical sliding component is essential for the design of refrigerant compressors. Therefore, theoretical investigation of the lubrication characteristics of rotary compressor for refrigeration & air-conditioning system is studied. And the Newton-Raphson method is used for the EHI. analysis between vane and rolling piston in the rotary compressor. The results show that the rotational speed of shaft and the discharge pressure have an important effect upon the friction force and the energy loss between vane and rolling piston. This results give important basic data for the further lubrication analysis and design of the rotary compressor.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dynamic response of the mandible to impact and provide insight into the fracture mechanism of the mandible, by 3-dimensional finite element method. The finite element model of the mandible was developed and calculated using NASTRAN/XL (MSC co. U.S.A.) and the linear dynamic transient analysis was performed according to the impulsive force direction, force type and impulse time to the mandible. At first, the load was applied on the mandibular symphysis, body, angle and subcondylar area in the horizontal mandibular plane and the computed stress-time histories at 14 locations of the mandible were obtained. Secondly, the impulsive force was directed to the symphyseal area with changing the force magnitude and impulse time, and calculated the node displacement at 8 locations of mandible. The conclusions from from this study were as follows. 1. The appearance of impulsive energy transmission was different to the direction of impulse to the mandible. 2. The impulsive stress and deformation were larger in lingual or medial side than buccal or lateral in the mandible. 3. The velocity, appearance of energy transmission and the fracture pattern in mandible were affected rather impulse time than force. 4. The horizontal impact to the one side of mandible did not have effect on the stress and displacement of contralateral mandible. From the above results, fracture pattern in symphysis can be showed as simple or comminuted, multiple or associated in body and angle and solitary in subcondyle area.

  • In recent years increased attention has been directed towards the problems of vibration and noise in superstructure, which have caused major problems with regard to the environmental afterbody of the ship, and the fore-and-after vibration of superstructure due to the vertical vibration of main hull girder is the most important as for the inhabitation of the ship. Accordingly, in this paper, the characteristics of the fore-and after vibration of superstructure and studied systematically with regard to the shape and height of superstructure based on finite element method of beam-like model. The study is divided into two parts, one is the calculation of natural frequencies and the other is the investigation of response at the top of superstructure caused by in its harmonic excitation force at the stern of hull girder. For the natural frequency the calculation results are shown that the higher superstructure is, the lower the natural frequencies of the fore-and-after vibration of superstructure is. It means that the natural frequency of superstructure is close to that of hull girder. The response of vertical direction at the stern of hull girder induced by unit harmonic force is less affected by the shape and the height of superstructure but the response of the fore-and-after direction at the top of superstructure is affected considerably by those of superstructure.

The present analysis is part of a research program directed toward maximizing the advantages of refrigerant compressors. The study of lubrication characteristics in the critical sliding component is essential for the design of refrigerant compressors. The Newton-Raphson method was used for a partial elastohydrodynamic lubrication analysis between the vane and the rolling piston of a rotary compressor. The results demonstrated that the vane thickness and the center line position of the vane significantly influenced the friction force and the energy loss between the vane and the rolling piston.
