The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between the shape of the foot and foot abrasion. and to provide preliminary data for shoe manufacturing by comparing the length of a woman's feet and the shoe size. The Martin calibrator and measuring tapes were utilized to measure the shapes of 163 female college students' feet. Indirect measurements were also obtained by line drawing of the feet for additional analysis. Brief questionnaires about what type of shoes are worn were given to the subjects of the study. Data analysis was presented by frequency, percentage, and standard deviations. Factor analysis and correlation co-efficiency of data was conducted on the significance level of p〈.05. The results of the study are as follows (1) The average number of days per week in which the subjects wear ladies' shoes per week were 4.5. Little over half of the subjects (53.87% ) answered that they wear heeled shoes for more than 8 hours per day. The most preferred height of a ladies'shoe heel was between 2 cm and 4 cm, as replied by 41.0% of the subjects. (2) The foot area where abrasion occurs most often was around the heel (51.2%) and the middle part of the sole (50.9%) (3) Factors correlated to the heel abrasion included the circumference and the breadth of the foot. The abrasion on the side of the first toe of mid-sized feet was most affected by the angle of the first the and inner foot line. The height of the foot heel was a significant factor for the abrasion near the anklebone. In conclusion, the abrasion resulted from the inappropriate fitting of the shoe and the foot. Also, the circumference and the width factors were more influential rather than the foot length. Therefore, more database on this should be systemized and available to the footwear manufacturers and the customers for more practical use of shoe size and public education.
In industrial designing of ready-to-wear shoes, one important factor to consider is that the population has diverse fooot shapes as well as foot length. The general shape of a foot could be represented by "foot ratio", i.e. the ratio of width to length. In this study, we measured several dey aspects of young Korean men's foot, and compared the results with their shoe sizes and general foot shapes. To this end, 172 male subjects were categorized according to their shoe size (small, medium, large) or foot ratio (wide, narrow, intermediate). The statistics of this survey indicated that the people with narrow foot shap have significantly greater foot length compared with the one having wide foot shape. Conversely, subjects having wide foot shape manifested significantly greater foot and ankle girth as well as significantly greater foot breadth. However, different foot shape groups showed no significant differences in heel width, heel ankle girth, instep height, and malleolus height. On the other hand, subjects wearing larger shoe size showed significantly larger foot measurements except instep and ankle heights, whereas subjects with shoe sizes 260 and below measured significantly more narrow heel and lateral metatarsal breadths. The deviation between foot length and dress shoe size(length) was greater in groups with wide foot shape and in groups wearing large shoe sizes. The results of this survey indicated that the subjects with wide foot shape apparently choose a size or two larger shoes for them as a compromise for a better breadth fit.eadth fit.
This research to reveal the foot types of old males consisted of two parts. First, a questionnaire was given for 180 old men in their 60s and above who live in Busan. Second, based on this survey on the reality of shoes wearing, direct and indirect measurement were held for 200 old gentlemen. The findings are as follows: 1. Survey Results of Shoes Wearing Reality In the investigation into the reality of shoes possession and wearing, most of old males favored active casual shoes with comfortable materials (40.8%). Hardened skin (23.6%) was the greatest in foot deformation and side effects resulting from shoes wearing, while the big toe (20.1%) was most uncomfortable. The greatest requirement for comfortable shoes was shoes making feet comfortable with a good sense of wear (41.0%), followed by shoes with the soft sole to absorb shock (31.7%), shoes with diverse sizes according to shoes width (13.7%), and shoes made of soft materials in consideration of various foot shapes. 2. Results of Foot Measurement Experiments Busan's males in their 60s and above were 166.31cm (Height), 63.51kg (weight), 23.94cm (foot length), 9.75cm (foot width), and 24.26cm (instep girth). The big toe angle of old males was $11.22^{\circ}$ and the little toe angle $14.70^{\circ}$. Four foot types were classified: 1 (long big foot), 2 (small inside-developed foot), 3 (toe-tip-gathered foot), and 4 (thin flat foot).
This study was to measure whether single axis foot or the SACH foot applied to below-knee amputation patients would bring positive changes to the patients' cardiopulmonary function, and help them to overcome their disability. The experiment took place at Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan, from July 20th to November 20th, 1999 with 10 below-knee amputation patients. The patients were asked to equip single axis foot and SACH foot by turns and lead them to walk on a treadmill which was designed to increase its steep slope. Patients heart rate and blood pressure were recorded before and after their walking, The heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure of the patients who were equipped with, either SACH foot or single axis foot, have been increased with as the slant becoming steeper. The heart rates during the experiment did not show relevant changes according to the kind of foot used and the gradient, but the changes occurred before and after the walking(p=0.0001), The similar result of systolic blood pressure was found during the waking(p=0.01). Below-knee amputation patients are expected to walk and perform the routines better, no matter what type of foot is used, as long as they wear an artificial foot properly and taking features of foot product into consideration

The purpose of this research is to develop appropriate Insole according to foot characteristics of female adults. This research concentrates on proving the effectiveness of Insole on resolving foot discomforts by analyzing the differences between the fitting and foot pressure before and after wearing Insole. Among 216 female testers of previous research, six testers wear selected and placed into six different groups classified according to foot discomforts and foot characteristics. After wearing Insole, the results indicates that the entire groups represented the improvement of fitting and the mitigation of foot discomfort. The results of foot pressure experiment shows that the maximum pressure of foot spreads out evenly after wearing Insole, which indicates the effectiveness of Insole. This efficacy works particularly well for foot testers of second and sixth group. The results indicate that group 6, which consist of the flat-footed and the old, have more noticeable effects derived from Insole, whereas group 3 and 5 do not, due to its constitution of people with fairly normal feet. Furthermore, it was evident that maximum pressure played a major role in proving the beneficial effects of Insole, one of which is to scatter the maximum pressure of heel away and lessen the foot pressure of plantar.
Background Adipofascial flaps covered with a skin graft address the challenges involved in reconstructing dorsal foot defects. The purpose of this study was to describe a large adipofascial flap based on the perforators of the dorsalis pedis artery for large foot defects. Methods Twelve patients aged 5-18 years with large soft tissue defects of the dorsal foot due to trauma were treated with an extended dorsalis pedis adipofascial flap from May 2016 to December 2018. The flap was elevated from the non-injured half of the dorsum of the foot. Its length was increased by fascial extension from the medial or lateral foot fascia to the plantar fascia to cover the defect. All perforators of the dorsalis pedis artery were preserved to increase flap viability. The dorsalis pedis artery and its branches were kept intact. Results The right foot was affected in 10 patients, and the left foot in two patients. All flaps survived, providing an adequate contour and durable coverage with a thin flap. Follow-up lasted up to 2 years, and patients were satisfied with the results. They were able to wear shoes. Donor-site morbidity was negligible. Two cases each of partial skin graft loss and superficial necrosis at the tip of the donor cutaneous flap occurred and were healed by a dressing. Conclusions The hinged multiperforator-based extended dorsalis pedis adipofascial flap described herein is a suitable method for reconstructing dorsal foot defects, as it provides optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes with minimal donor site morbidity.

A child sustained a car tire friction injury and had multiple soft tissue wounds. She had a severe soft tissue defect in the medial foot and ankle aspect which requiring flap coverage. We performed an adipoafscial flap with upside-down pattern for the treatment of the medial foot and ankle soft tissue posttraumatic defect. The flap is based on the perforator artery from the posterior tibial artery. Because it gave a thin coverage for the foot, the patient could walk with normal foot wear.
Purpose: To provide baseline data for prevention and education of diabetic foot in Korea. Materials and Methods: 216 diabetic patients are included in this survey. This study was conducted on male college students with supinated foot to measure the foot pressure by having them wear three kinds of wedge insoles ($0^{\circ}$, $3.5^{\circ}$, $7^{\circ}$). Foot contact time, foot contact area, peak pressure and mean pressure were measured using a foot pressure distribution measuring instrument. And the surface of the foot sole was divided into 10 areas. Regarding foot contact time, there was no statistically significant difference by showing $0.69{\pm}0.004$ seconds at $3.5^{\circ}$ and $0.68{\pm}0.006$ seconds at $0^{\circ}$ and $7^{\circ}$. Regarding the foot contact area, it appeared broad in the inside area of the foot according to wedge insole, and there was statistically significant difference in the area 1 of the rear foot(p< .01) and the area 3 of the middle foot(p< .05). The peak pressure by foot area decreased in the outside of the foot according to wedge insole, while increasing in the inside of the foot. Among the areas, there was statistically significant in the area 2 of the rear foot (p< .01) and the area 3 of the middle foot (p< .05). Regarding the mean pressure by foot area, the pressure roughly increased in the inside area of the foot according to wedge insole, while decreasing in the outside of the foot.
This study was conducted on male college students with pronated foot to measure the foot pressure by having them wear three kinds of mid-sole wedge ($0^{\circ}$, $5^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$). Maximum force, foot contact area, mean pressure and peak pressure were measured using a foot pressure distribution measuring instrument. And the surface of the foot sole was divided into 10 areas. Regarding maximum force, there were statistically significant difference in the area 3 of the middle foot(p<.05). Regarding the foot contact area, it appeared broad in the outside area(1, 3, 5) of the foot according to mid-sole wedge, and there was statistically significant difference in the area 1 of the rear foot(p<.05) and the area 3 of the middle foot(p<.05). Mean pressure by foot area decreased in the inside of the foot according to mid-sole wedge, and there was statistically significant difference in the area 2 of the rear foot(p<.05) and the area 3 of the middle foot(p<.05). Regarding the peak pressure by foot area, the pressure roughly decreased in the inside area(2, 4, 7) of the foot according to mid-sole wedge, and there was statistically significant difference in the area 1(p<.05), 2(p<.05) of the rear foot and the area 3 of the middle foot(p<.05).
