The fifty percent effective concentration (EC50) and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of iprodione on the resistant isolates of Alternaria mali obtained from infected leaves in Kyeongsan region ranged $550\~1,310{\mu}g/ml$ and $33,800-39,800{\mu}g/ml$, respectively. Conidia germination of the resistant isolates reached $70\%$ on PSA added with iprodione, $500{\mu}g/ml$ When treated with $500{\mu}g/ml$ iprodione soon after the inoculation the diameters of lesions on apple fruits 7days after inoculation with the resistant isolates were 1.6-14.6mm but no lesions appeared on those inoculated with the sensitive isolates. A similar trend of responses with the sensitive isolates was shown to benomyl, chlorothalonil, garbenda, thiophanatemethyl and triademefon with the resistant isolates. One isolate among the resistant ones was cross resistance to captan and folpet that were effective to the sensitive isolates.
Of the 1,200 single spore isolates of Alternaria mali causing apple leaf spot and fruit decay, the mycelial colonies showed 76, 96 and 15% growth at 100,000 ${\mu}g/ml$ of captafol, chlorothalonil and folpet, respectively, and five and three percent growth at 10,000 ${\mu}g/ml$ of iprodione and polyoxin. These isolates showed cross-tolerance of mycelial growth, spore formation, or spore germination to the above five fungicides plus captan, garbenda, and thiophanate methyl. Captafol, mancozeb, polydong, and propineb did not show any cross-tolerance of spore germination since no spore was germinated at 100 ${\mu}g/ml$ which was much lower than the concentration used by apple growers. Benomyl, fenarimol, oxidong, and triademefon showed medium degree of cross-tolerance of the fungal growth, sporulation, and spore germination.
For the selection of powerful antagonistic bacterium for biological control of Ewinia sp. causing vegetable soft rot, two excellent strains (54, 565) were selected from 1, 196 strains of bacteria which were isolated from rhizospere in vegetable root rot suppressive soil. Selected 2 strains were identified to be a species to Pseudomonas fluorescens S4 and pseudomonas fluorescens S65 (PS65). The highest of inhibitory activity was produced in 523 synthetic broth medium at pH 7.0 and 25t during 3 ethyl-Al-folpet, and the antibiotics such as vancomycin, perucillin and lincomycin, only PS4 was resistant to erythromycin.
Captafol (1H-isoindole-1.3 (2H)-dione, 3a,4,7,7a-tetrahydro-2-1.1.2.2-tetrachloroethylthio), is widely used as broad spectrum fungicide in agriculture and industrial application. N-sulfenylphthalimide fungicides are relatively low toxic to human and animal by oral administration. However it was reported that the fungicides have carcinogenic and mutagenic potentials, in subacute and chronic toxicity experiments. As mentioned the above, there are many experimental reports on the toxicity of captan and folpet, the toxicological researches on captafol are few, therefore in this experiment we examined the subacute toxicity of captafol which is widely used as fungicide in biochemical parameters in serum. The experimental results were summerized as follows: 1) In captafol administered group, the body weight was significantly decreased but the biochemical parameters such as AST, ALT, LDH, BUN, TG in serum were remarkably elevated in comparison to that of control group. 2) Captafol plus ethanol administered group, serum AST, ALT, BUN were elevated in comparison to that of captafol treated group.
Six pesticides were determined in hot pepper leaves after successive processing steps of washing, blanching, and drying. The tested pesticides included dichlofluanid, flusilazole, folpet, iprodione, ${\lambda}$-cyhalothrin, and lufenuron. Each pesticide was singly applied to the leaves of the pepper plants, which were being cultivated in a greenhouse. The processing factors were dependent on the type of pesticide, and were in the following ranges: 0.09-0.73 by washing, <0.00-0.48 after blanching, and <0.00-3.30 after drying. Only lufenuron showed a processing factor of more than 1, at 3.30 in dried leaves, while the processing factors of the other pesticides were less than 1. The removal ratios of the tested pesticides by washing ranged from 27 to 90%. The blanching step increased their removals by 10-25%. However, drying did not have an effect on residue reduction. Finally, after proceeding to the drying step, removal ratios ranged from 85 to 100%, with the exception of lufenuron at 47%.
Aphidius colemani and Orius laevigatus aree natural enemies of the control cotton aphid and western flower thrips, which are the major pests of cucumber plants. We evaluated the low toxicity of 47 fungicides against A. colemani and O. laevigatus, and we investigated the simultaneous effect of the natural enemies with fungicide of low toxicity on the pests. The toxicity of DBEDC, hexaconazole, pyraclostrobin, tribasic copper sulfate, triflumizole, chlorothalonil, flusilazole, folpet, carbendazim+diethofencarb, cymoxanil+fenamidone and trifloxystrobin to A. colemani mummies was more than 50% and to O. laevigatus was low toxic. Among the fungicides with low toxicity, azoxystrobin 20% WP was selected because it could be used simultaneously with A. colemani and O. laevigatus and as a fungicide to control powdery mildew and downy mildew. In 2011, the densities of western flower thrips and cotton aphid increased rapidly in early-May in Gongju and Cheonan, Chungnam Province. When azoxystrobin was used at an interval of 10 days in spring, A. colemani and O. laevigatus were released at an interval of 7 days at the early occurrence of the pests. The natural enemies decreased the densities of the pests; the maximum number of A. colemani mummies was 18 per lower leaf, and the maximum number of O. laevigatus was 0.5 per flower. Azoxystrobin did not influence the densities of A. colemani and O. laevigatus. The results show that the selected fungicides can be used with A. colemani and O. laevigatus for the intergrated pest management of cotton aphid and western flower thrips in cucumber polyvinyl house cultivation.
Mycelial growth of Colletotrichun dematium and C. gloeosporioides isolated from anthracnose of Lycium chinense was favorable on V-8 Juice Agar media and Oatmeal Agar media of the four different media tested. Sporulation of C. dematium was favorable on PDA media and V-8 Juice Agar media and that of C. gloeosporioides was favorable on all media tested. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides and C. dematium was $25^{\circ}C$ and $28^{\circ}C$, respectively and sporulation of the fungi was stimulated under alternating NUV light and darkness. Of the seven nitrogen sources tested, gelatin was the most favorable for mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides and glycin and gelatin were favorable for that of C. dematium. Of the eleven carbon sources tested, dextrin and sorbitol were favorable for mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides and dextrin was the most favorable for that of C. dematium. Among the eleven fugicides tested, Benomyl, Folpet, Dithianon, Carbendazim and S-3308L were found superior for the inhibition of mycelial growth and spore germination of the fungi. They were, also, found superior for the control of anthracnose disease of L. chinense when they were applied to the plants in the field.
Among 6 fungicides, fluazinam, which had an excellent inhibitory effect on mycelial growth and spore germination, was also effective in controlling jujube anthracnose in the field. While EC50 values of metconazole and tebuconazole ranged from 0.2 to 0.9 ㎍/ml and from 0.4 to 1.1 ㎍/ml against the mycelial growth, respectively, each inhibitory effect on spore germination was low by 7.4% and 11.1% at 50.0 ㎍/ml. In the field test, they showed the control value of 80.5% and 77.0%, respectively. The protective fungicides, as mancozeb and folpet, which had a low inhibitory effect on the mycelial growth, but had a high inhibitory effect of spore germination, showed excellent disease control activities by 87.6% and 92.0% in the field. Showing a result of resistance monitoring conducted with the isolates of Colletotricum gloeosporioides, the resistance against carbendazim was already generated in the field, but it was thought that there was no resistance to pyraclostrobin, fluazinam and tebuconazole. However, if the resistance factor value of the population of C. gloeosporioides isolates to pyraclostrobin was high by 160.4, the diversity of the response to the fungicide in the population was high, so it should be taken more attention to the resistance management.
Responses to the 14 fungicides added in PSA of penicillium expansum isolated froms the four major apple growing areas in Korea were examined. Degrees of the fungal tolerance were various with little difference by area and with great difference by kind and concentration of fungicide. Fall isolates of the fungus grew at higher fungicide concentration than did the spring isolates. $ED_{50}$ and MIC to mycelial growth of genomyl, garbenda, polydong, polyoxin and thiophanate methyl were $0.1{\mu}g-41.7{\mu}g/ml\;and\;100{\mu}g-2,250{\mu}g/ml,$, respectively, indicating high fungicide effects on the fungus isolated from decayed apples in storages and infected apples in orchards with low fungal tolerance; of captafol, captan, iprodione and mancozeb were $2.6{\mu}g - 750{\mu}g/ml\;and\;638{\mu}g-40,500{\mu}g/ml$, respectively, indicating medium degree of both fungicidal effects and fungal tolerance; and of chlorothalonil, folpet, oxidong, propineb and triademefon were $27.8{\mu}g-8,354{\mu}g/ml\;and\;2,625{\mu}g-150,357{\mu}g/ml$, respectively, indicating low fungicide effects and high fungal tolerance. Fungicidal inhibitory effects on conidia formation exhibited a similar trend as on mycelial growth whereas those on conidia germination showed an opposite trend to the mycelial growth with the exception of polyoxin and triademefon.
For the effective control of pepper anthracnose, in vitro antifungal activities of 13 commercial fungicides were tested on spore germination, mycelial growth, and sporulation of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, anthracnose fungus. Among them, captan, chlorothalonil, dithianon, fluazinam and folpet completely inhibited the spore germination of C. gloeosporioides at the concentration of 0.8 ${\mu}g/ml$. They were followed by mancozeb and propineb, showing more than 80% inhibition of spore germination at 20 ${\mu}g/ml$. The mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides was strongly inhibited by fluazinam and nuarimol. Except for nuarimol, most of the fungicides represented more antifungal activity on the spore germination than the mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides. Azoxystrobin and metominostrobin, Strobilurin fungicides, were only moderately active against the spore germination and the mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides, but they were effective antisporulant against C. gloeosporioides. From these results, control of pepper anthracnose will have achieved by preventive spray of the commercial fungicides.
