The purpose of this paper is to describe experimental results about the T-joint welding of the high power continuous wave (CW) fiber laser for SAPH steel plate for seat frame of car. The seat rail is a part of seat frame of cars. The assembling method is mostly fix up using a bolt and nut. But this assembling method has many demerits in productivity such as increasing work process and material cost. This paper presents an experimental study about Laser T-Joint weldability of seat rail. Laser welding has many advantages in lightness and saving material costs of seat frame. The laser beam was moved along the work pieces by six axis robot with process optical fiber. The laser beam is focused with a welding head within incident angle $15{\sim}45^{\circ}$ for the purpose of the T-joint welding through two side full penetration. The range of the root gap size is less than ${\leq}0.4mm$. Optical microscopy SEM were performed to observe the micro structures and determine the structures of welded zone.
The purpose of this study was to suggest the use of laser energy in the the field of operative dentistry without considerable pulpal damage and significant effects on the dental hard tissue, additionally to find out the methods which could control the temperature rise. The laser beam (CW $CO_2$ laser, output: 6W, beam diameter: 1.5mm) was focused on the center of the occlusal surface of extracted lower molars. A Ge lens (focal length 200mm) was used to focus the primary laser beam. In order to vary the total amount of the same irradiated energy, experimental subjects were devided into three groups: continuously irradiated group, intermittently irradiated group, and water-cooled group after continuous laser irradiation. Temperature changes in the pulp chamber after laser irradiation were measured and recorded by the digital thermometer and recorder. The following results were obtained: 1. Temperatures in the pulp chamber were raised up in the order of the continuously irradiated group, intermittently irradiated group, water-cooled group after continuous laser irradiation. 2. In the continuously irradiated group, the temperature was raised up $1.7^{\circ}C$, $3.8^{\circ}C$, $7.3^{\circ}C$, $17.2^{\circ}C$ after 2, 4, 8, 16 seconds of the irradiation of laser. In the intermittently irradiated group, the changes were $1.2^{\circ}C$, $3.4^{\circ}C$, $6.3^{\circ}C$, $11.1^{\circ}C$, respectively. In the water-cooled group after continuous laser irradiation, the changes were $0.0^{\circ}C$, $0.8^{\circ}C$, $1.6^{\circ}C$, $6.9^{\circ}C$, respectively. 3. The starting time of temperature rise in the pulp chamber had no connection with laser irradiation time.
Laser decontamination of radioactive surfaces is an innovative technology. Our contribution to improving this technology includes studies on laser beam decontamination with a pulsed laser of an average power of 150 W, equipped with a hand guided working head. Our investigations are focused on metallic surfaces typical in nuclear power plants, such as stainless steel, bright and rusted mild steel, galvanized steel, and painted steel. As typical nuclides of contaminated surfaces we chose Co-60 and Cs-137, the most frequently occurring nuclides in many nuclear plant components; Sr-85 as a representative of Sr-90, the potentially most harmful fission nuclide; and Am-241 as a representative of the minor alpha-radiation emitting actinides. Here, we present our results of decontamination and recovery ratios. Decontamination ratios of 90-100% were achieved on different surfaces.
The laser forming process is a new flexible forming process without forming tools and external force, which is applied to various fields of industry. Especially, applications of the laser forming process focused on cutting, welding and marking process. In this paper, the laser bending process of sheet metal which is heated by laser beam and formed by internal stress is simulated by using thermo elastic-plastic analysis model. Based on the result of FE-analysis, the laser bending machine is made to obtain reliable data for sheet bending. Under the same condition as FE-analysis, the laser bending experiment has been performed to ver 펴 the result of FE-analysis and good agreement has been obtained between FE-analysis and experiments. Additional laser bending experiments have been performed to evaluate the laser bending machine.
We have studied a laser direct writing lithography(LDWL). This is more important to apply to micro patterning using UV laser. We demonstrate the possibility of LDWL and construct the fabrication system. We use Galvano scanner to process quickly micro patterns from computer data. And laser beam is focused with $F-{\theta}$ lens. AZ5214 and SU-8 photoresist are chosen as experimental materials and a kind of well-known positive and negative photoresist respectively. Laser ablation mechanism depends on the optical properties of polymer. In this paper, therefore we investigate the phenomenon of laser ablation according to the laser fluence variation and measure the shape profile of micro patterned holes. From these experimental results, we show that LDWL is very useful to process various micro patterns directly.
The PDP(Plasma Display Panel) barrier rib was fabricated by focused $Ar^+$ laser ($\lambda$=514nm) and Nd:YAG($\lambda$=532, 266 nm) laser irradiation. The depth of the etched groove increases with increasing a laser fluence. and decreasing a scan speed. Using the second harmonic of the Nd:YAG laser, the threshold laser fluence was $6.5mJ/cm^2$ for the sample of PDP barrier rib dried at $120^{\circ}C$. The thickness of $150{\mu}m$ of the sample on the glass was etched without any damage on the glass substrate by fluence of $19.5J/cm^2$. The barrier rib sample on hot plate was etched by Nd:YAG laser(532 nm) as increasing a temperature of the sample. In this case, the etch rate was $95{\mu}m/s$, $190{\mu}m/s$ at room temperature, $175^{\circ}C$ respectively.
We analyze the characteristics of the coherent beam combination of lasers by monitoring the speckle pattern of the beam reflected from a scattering medium. Three collimated laser sources with high coherence are focused on a scattering target using a lens, and we then examine the speckle pattern of the returned beam in the Fourier domain. We observe that the size of the speckle pattern changes, depending on the focused-beam size or degree of spatial overlap of the three beams. Furthermore, through Fourier-domain analysis of the speckle pattern we obtain the monitoring variable to qualify the efficiency of the coherent beam combination.

The curing characteristics of a liquid photopolymer during microstereolithography and the shape accuracy of thereby fabricated microstructures were investigated experimentally. A He-Cd laser with a wavelength of 442nm and a photopolymer consisted of a commercial resin from SK chemical and a photoinitiat or were used for the experiment. By varying the laser beam power and scanning speed of the focused laser beam, minimum curing thickness of 50 ${\mu}ㅡ$ was obtained. The distortion of solidified structure due to adhesion force was measured and the optimum fabrication conditions were determined. Also, the feasibility of direct fabrication of three-dimensional microstructures by Super IH process was examined.
A Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV) based on the heterodyne method was developed using He-Ne laser as a light source. The heterodyne method was employed to eliminate the ambiguity in the direction of the motion. The frequency shifted object beam (40 MHz) by a Bragg cell was focused on the surface of the moving target and the Doppler shifted reflected beam was combined at the fast photodetector to produce frequency modulated signal centered at 40 MHz. The signal from the detector was amplified, filtered and downconverted to intermediate frequency centered at 5 MHz. The voltage output that was proportional to the velocity of the moving surface was obtained using PLL. This LDV can be used to measure the resonant frequency of the electric equipments such as circuit breakers and bushings, of which resonant frequencies are changed when they are damaged.

The beam-matter interaction with various coating effects has received continued attention in the high power laser community. Previous works suggest that coatings promote target damage when compared to beaming on uncoated surface. Three types of paint coatings(Acrylic urethane, Silicone alkyd and Stealth blend) and a water coat on metals(Al, Ti and STS) are irradiated with a $CO_2$ laser. Both strain and temperature measurements are provided for assessing the instantaneous response characteristics of each coating on different metals. A selective combination of surface coats with metals has proven effective in either preventing or enhancing damage, both thermal and mechanical, associated with focused beaming on a target.
