  • It is possible to shorten developing process by making model using polyurethane foam in the area of automobile development process, etc. However, this skill is too difficult to be of practical use because machining is not easy due to characteristic of polyurethane foam. Domestic and foreign automobile company use clay, polyurethane foam. etc,, those are easy to handle and to make model after completing design sketch. But these materials is difficult to the machined and be worked by humans hand, There are so many difficult problem for machining by making model using polyurethane foam since cutting of elastic body like polyurethan foam has never been studied. Therefore, in this study, it is investigated to measured cutting force that is generated in case of polyurethane foam machining, and to make systematize tool compensation of polyurethane foam cutting work on automobile model by modification of tool offset method on existing steel.

A Study on the Methodology of Calculating Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction by HFCs Reduction - Focusing on the Foam Industry - (HFCs 감축에 따른 온실가스 감축량 산정방법론 연구 - 발포산업을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a methodology for estimating greenhouse gas emission reduction through HFCs used in the foam industry. This study investigated characteristics of HFCs and greenhouse gas emissions from production processes in the foam industry, which uses HFCs as a blowing agent. Also, we investigated fluorinated gas removal technology to determine a proper technology for the foam industry. And we confirmed the criteria and characteristics of External Project for methodology development. According to criteria of External Project and foam industrial process emission, a methodology for calculating the amount of greenhouse gas emission reduction in foam industry was developed. Lastly, we analyzed the amount of greenhouse gas emission reduction and KOC (Korea Of Offset) in the foam industry based on the domestic government's plan to reduce HCFCs and imported amount of HFCs used as a blowing agent. The results of this study demonstrate that linking greenhouse gas reduction in the foam industry and the domestic greenhouse gas reduction system can contribute to achieve the domestic greenhouse gas reduction goal.

  • Fire fighting foam is expanded when it mix with many water in mechanical method. It have adaptability, mass production possibility, long-time storage possibility. But foam isn't recommended that it use for extinguish the fire in winter. Because of, expansion ratio is changed according to exterior temperature and environment. In this study, we analysis to effect of expansion according to temperature and develop auto mixing system available for fire engine. As a result of non-standard drug mixture is 3.0% up to 30.08% depending on the temperature of the fire showed that the difference in performance occurs. In addition, analysis of the applicability of automatic mixing system design values and actual experimental data as 0.012% maximum error of the applicability of the system obtained according nataname was judged.

  • We carried out fire extinguishing experiments with three kinds of water mist nozzle system. Fire extinguishing experiment according to installed nozzle height and fuel pan location was done. And fire extinguishing performance was compared with plain water and foam agent mixed solution. Water mist nozzle height was varied with 4m, 3.5m and 3m and position of fuel fan was varied 0.5m and 1m from the center of water mist nozzle. Foam agent that used in this experiment is 3% type of AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) solution. Experimental result showed the door opening effect was little. Fire extinguishing performance of foam agent mixture water mist was better than the plain water mist only.

A Study on the Minimization of Transmissibility of Seat Foam in Passenger Vehicles (승용차 시트용 폼의 진동전달율 최소화에 관한 연구)

  • One of the most important factor for the comfort of the passenger vehicles is the minimization of the compressible transmissibility during the running vehicles. Seat foam materials of I2 series(index 95 and the contents of isocyanate TDI was changed in percentages 75, 70, 65, 60, 50, 40) and DI series(density 50kg/$\textrm{m}^3$, index was changed 100, 95, 90) showed the significant differences in their transmissibility depended upon their chemical constitution such as index and contents of isocyanate TDI. The minimum trasmissibility of seat foam materials of I2 series was found from the materials with the contents of 65% isocyanate TDI and the index 95 at the frequency 4.79~5.31Hz. Also the minimum transmissibility of seat foam materials of DI series was found from the materials with the index 90 and the density of 50kg/$\textrm{m}^3$ at the frequency of 4.79~5.31Hz.

  • Power Plant is requested, by environmental bodies and fisherman, to correct the pollution of coastal area due to the outflow of foam from the outlet of the power plants. Foam wastewater cause a lot of environmental problems, expecially in aesthetic points of view. Therefore, It is needed to be collect from the stream into nearby ocean, and the collected foams should be treated before being discharged into nearby ocean. The most effective and feasible treatment method researched for the effective treatment of foam wastewater generated at the power plants. The result of the test is confirmed with collecting Foam wastewater by inhalation force. The treatment pilot ($3m^3/hr$) collected wastewater was operated by Biological degradation method(Aerobic/anaerobic Processes) for approximately two months. It was removed SS, COD, nutrient(T-P, T-N), etc. The System is expected successfully by Minimizing the operating costs such as electricity, repair expenses, chemicals and supplies expenses.

  • Solar reforming of methane with $CO_2$ was successfully tested with a direct irradiated absorber on a parabolic dish capable of $5kW_{th}$ solar power. The new type of catalytically activated metallic foam absorber was prepared, and its activity was tested. Ni was applied as the active metal on the gamma - alumina coated Ni metal foam for the preparation of the catalytically-activated metal foam layer. Compared to conventional direct irradiation of the catalytically-activated ceramic foam absorber, this new metallic foam absorber is found to exhibit a superior reaction performance at the relatively low insolation or at low temperatures. In addition, unlike direct irradiation of the catalytically-activated ceramic foam absorber, metallic foam absorber has better thermal resistance, which prevents the emergence of cracks caused by mechanical or thermal shock. The total solar power absorbed reached up to 2.1kW and the maximum $CH_4$ conversion was almost 40%.

  • Fabric Foam systems provide a variety of flexible bank protection for open channels and hydrulic structures. The structural performance and durability of conventional bank protection materials such as concrete, gravel, riprap and vegetation can be significantly improved by confining the materials within the cells of Fabric Foam system. This paper presents the results of field and laboratory tests carried out to evaluate the performance of new Fabric Foam System as a Bank Protection. The results of the tests confirmed effect of Fabric Foam System in Bank Protection.

  • Since the Daegu subway fire accident, people's perception of safety has increased, and all materials inside the train have been changed to incombustible materials. However, there is still a lack of development of fire extinguishing systems. Train components are mostly made of steel plates, and therefore it is very difficult to extinguish the train fire by using general fire extinguishing equipment. In this regard, this paper investigated rapid and easy methods of extinguishing the train fire by using compressed air foam systems through full-scale fire tests. To extinguish the fire of train at rescue station, window breakers were used to quickly destroy the train windows, and the compressed air foam system was inserted inside the train. As a result, the train windows were destroyed in 5 seconds, and the 11.88-MW fire was put out in 30 seconds by the compressed air foam discharged from the compressed air foam system inserted inside the train. For the future work, there is a need for further experimental studies to prevent the spread of fire and protect tunnel structures with the use of compressed air foam systems.
