The dissipation patters of the triazole fungicides flusilazole and myclobutanil in apples were investigated to establish the biological half-lives and pre-harvest residue limits (PHRLs). The residual amounts of the fungicides sprayed with single or triple doses were below the maximum residue limits (MRL) for apples established by Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The dissipation constants of the fungicides in the apples were 0.0513 for flusilazole and 0.0244 for myclobutanil meaning their biological half-lives were calculated as 6.2-6.7 days for flusilazole and 13.3-24.8 days for myclobutanil. The PHRLs calculated using the dissipation constants indicated that the residual amounts of flusilazole and myclobutanil in the apples at the harvesting date would be below the MRLs if their residual amounts were 0.43 and 0.59 mg/kg, respectively, at 7 days prior to harvesting the apples.

The present study was performed to investigate the pre-harvest residue limit (PHRL) of pesticides namely, metalaxyl-M and flusilazole in oriental melon, and to identify the biological half-life and characteristics of their residues. In this study, pesticides were sprayed once as single spray and double spray on oriental melon. The oriental melon samples were collected at 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 days before harvest and samples were extracted with QuEChERS method. The residues of both the pesticides were quantified using GC/NPD and LC/MS/MS. The limit of detection was found to be 0.02 mg/kg and 0.01 mg/kg and their recoveries were greater than 95% (95.7% ~ 103.2% for metalaxyl-M and 100.2% ~ 106.8% for flusilazole) for both pesticides. The biological half-lives of both metalaxyl-M and flusilazole were 12 days at single and double spray, respectively. The PHRL of metalaxyl-M and flusilazole was found 1.0 mg/kg and 0.3 mg/kg, respectively for 10 days before harvest. The results of the present study shows the residual level of both the pesticides metalaxyl-M and flusilazole in oriental melon were less than their maximum residual limits.

This study was carried out to investigate residue dissipation of fluquinconazole and flusilazole in field-sprayed tomatoes during greenhouse cultivation and processing. The test pesticide, fluquinconazole+flusilazole 8.5 (7+1.5)% SC, was sprayed onto the tomatoes growing in a greenhouse according to Korea preharvest intervals and then samples were collected on 0 (3 hours after spraying), 1, 3, 5 and 7 days after last application for decline test. For processing test, tomatoes collected at harvest on 5 day after last application were processed to puree and juice. Limits of quantitation of fluquinconazole and flusilazole were 0.005 mg/kg in both tomatoes and their processed products. Recoveries for validation of the analytical methods for fluquinconazole and flusilazole in tomatoes and their processed products ranged from 74.8 to 97.5%. Biological half-lives of fluquinconazole and flusilazole in tomatoes under greenhouse conditions found to be 5.2 and 6.4 days, respectively. Average persistent residue levels of fluquinconazole and flusilazole were 37.34 and 79.53% after washing, 8.95 and 28.75% in filtrates after boiling, 3.58 and 14.66% in puree, and 3.34 and 13.52% in juice, respectively. These results indicated that the test pesticide residues on tomatoes could be largely removed through washing and boiling.

In 1998, a pathogen isolated from infected onions was identified as Aspergillus niger. At 3$0^{\circ}C$, A. niger AnYD-1 showed the best mycelial growth, spore germination, and high pathogenicity to onions. In spite of the weak inhibitory effect of flusilazole and hexaconazole on the mycelial growth on PDA, they showed the specific inhibitory activity against the formation of spores in the vapour phase. With flusilazole and hexaconazole, the effects of the solvent, the applied concentration and the incubating temperature on the activities inhibiting the spore formation were confirmed. Their inhibitory effect on the spore formation in vapour phase was excellent by solving them with dimethylsulfoxide and dimethylformamide among tested solvents, and applying them at high temperature such as 30~35$^{\circ}C$.
Fungicides of tebuconazole wp, iprodione wp and flusilazole wp were applied for the control of postharvest fruit rots of kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) in the field in 2000 and 2001. More than 3 consecutive applications of these fungicides from the late June with 10-day-interval successfully controlled the diseases. It was found in the field trial in 2002 that 4 consecutive spays from mid of June with 10-day-interval was found to be the most effective application program for tebuconazole wp, iprodione wp and flusilazole wp, The results suggested that currently registered fungicides of benomyl wp and thiophanate-methyl wp can be substituted by tebuconazole wp, iprodione wp and flusilazole wp for the control of the diseases in Korea. Use of these fungicides can restrain emergence of fungicide resistant strains of postharvest fruit rot pathogens with benefit of reduced application of chemicals for food safety and environmental conservation.
This study was conducted to compare of the pesticide residue amounts in fruit trees applied by different sprayers and spray volumes. Apple tree was used as a sample tree, and speed sprayer, power sprayer and knapsack motorized sprayer were tested. For similar sprayer and spray volume, the concentration of fluquinconazole and flusilazole in apple leaves were obtained respectively, for speed sprayer 8.33 and 2.15 mg/kg, for power sprayer 4.56 and 1.10 mg/kg, and for knapsack 4.55 and 1.12 mg/kg. The results showed that the treatment using speed sprayer had highest efficiency. The pesticide residues in apple leaves sprayed by 3 different spray volumes (560, 336 and 230 L/10a) using speed sprayer were 10.76 mg/kg, 8.32 mg/kg, 6.04 mg/kg on fluqinconazle and 3.04 mg/kg, 2.14 mg/kg and 1.47 mg/kg on flusilazole, respectively, indicating that the higher the volume, the higher the residues. The results from this study can be used as scientific basis for evaluating the field trial data for pesticide registration and the spray volume setting for fruit trees in Korea.
A series of six-membered ring organosilicon compounds, 1-aryl-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)alkyl-1-silacyclohexanes 3a-c, have been synthesized by four-step reactions starting from 1-(chloroalkyl)trichlorosilanes. Their fungicidal activities were tested in in vitro for ten fungi and in vivo assay for four fungi occurring in rice, barley, tomato, and etc. and compared with the flusilazole. Especially, 1-p-fluorophenyl-1-[1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)alkyl]-1-silacyclohexanes (3a, alkyl=methyl; 3b, alkyl=ethyl) showed good fungicidal activity with broad spectrum close to the flusilazole in in vivo assay.
In Korea, EBI fungicides which are highly effective for control of pear scab and rust but of high risk for development of resistance have been frequently sprayed by majority of pear growers. To detect any possible resistance or reduced sensitivity in the field strains of scab fungus to five EBIs, difenoconazole, fluquinconazole, flusilazole, fenarimole and hexaconazole, sensitivity tests were conducted with fungal specimens collected in Ulsan and Naju where scab usually occurs and EBIs have been intensively sprayed for many years. As the strains for which $EC_{50}$ values of the EBIs were largely shifted from those of base-line were occasionally found, the resistant or less sensitive strains were supposed to be distributed. In the activity test for the EBIs by artificial inoculation, in which EBI-treated pear leaves on the potted seedlings were inoculated with fungal spores collected in the two regions, development of resistances to EBIs were confirmed. Since the fungal spores collected at 4 and 2 orchards in Naju and Ulsan, respectively, produced much higher disease incidence on the leaves treated with hexaconazole than those on the untreated control, those fungal specimens were determined as resistant to hexaconazole. Similar results were also obtained with two specimens from Ulsan for flusilazole.
Six pesticides were determined in hot pepper leaves after successive processing steps of washing, blanching, and drying. The tested pesticides included dichlofluanid, flusilazole, folpet, iprodione, ${\lambda}$-cyhalothrin, and lufenuron. Each pesticide was singly applied to the leaves of the pepper plants, which were being cultivated in a greenhouse. The processing factors were dependent on the type of pesticide, and were in the following ranges: 0.09-0.73 by washing, <0.00-0.48 after blanching, and <0.00-3.30 after drying. Only lufenuron showed a processing factor of more than 1, at 3.30 in dried leaves, while the processing factors of the other pesticides were less than 1. The removal ratios of the tested pesticides by washing ranged from 27 to 90%. The blanching step increased their removals by 10-25%. However, drying did not have an effect on residue reduction. Finally, after proceeding to the drying step, removal ratios ranged from 85 to 100%, with the exception of lufenuron at 47%.
